Cask from the Beer Engine.
A great looking snifter brought to the table. Dark black liquid waits beneath a nice white head.
Smell throws me off. I swear that this smells like garbage. The hops and chocolate combine to make a smell that really can only be imagined as a black plastic bag baking in the hot sun. Not good so far :(
Taste follows the smell. Sure, I can see where they were going with this one. But there's something about the combination of the dank, stinky hops and the chocolate malt that reminds me of a garbage bag. Not that I've ever eaten that kind of thing.
The mouthfeel was the best part of this beer. Can't comment on the carb as this was a cask, but the thickness of the beer is really spot on.
Drinkability suffers tremendously. If your name is Oscar the Grouch, this may remind you of home. But anyone else should know - this is one to be avoided (on cask at the very least).

Best by date JUN 30-14
Aggressively poured in to a DHF signature glass.
A: Deep mahogany with a 1 finger tan head. No lacing to speak of. The head acted more like a soda than a Russian Imperial Stout, loudly fizzing away as quickly as it appeared.
S: Slightly metallic, roasted coffee with a hint of ash tray. Reminded me of Dunkin Donuts coffee.
T: Similar to the nose with the addition of dark fruit and stale Coke. Very flat
MF: Thin with a dry aftertaste, not encouraging me to take another sip.
O: This beer did not fit the category. It is lacking the weight and complexity or a RIS.
Heavy Seas makes some good beer, but I think they missed the mark with this one or Oskar Blues and Founders set the bar to high. Either way I hope Siren Noire treats me better. I have bottle waiting for me in the fridge.
