Notes/Commercial Description:
Burnished gold with a rich citrus hop aroma, it is wonderfully drinkable with a big hop flavor. We’ve knicknamed it Hop3 (hop cubed) ale to reflect the enormous amount of hops in this beer: over 3 pounds per barrel! It is hopped 3 ways: in the kettle, in the hop back, and dry hopped.

A- 4 Nice looking clear golden color with a bit of an orange tint. There's a big creamy off-white head on the pour that settles to a fine, uniform layer through the drink. Ultra smooth tiny bubbles lace the walls and leave spotty sticky remains all over. The carbonation is visible as bubbles dance inside the glass.

S- 4.5 The big hop combo in this brew combines to form a hoppy, citrusy scent that lasts but a few seconds. This turns to a sweeter floral aroma. Very nice blended smell shooting from the Cannon.

T- 4.5 Much like the aroma, the Loose Cannon tastes nicely balanced, with a hoppy grapefruit right up front that is followed by a moderate malt sweetness that keeps the hops just in check.

M- 4 This brew feels crisp going down and smooth on the finish. It is just a little sticky and not as creamy as I'd like, but the carbonation is sufficient. Leaves a dryness behind.

D- 4.5 A great IPA is what I think I'll call the Loose Cannon. Intrigued by its name and label, and being a fan of the style, I thought I should give this a shot. I'm sure glad I did; I will definitely buy this again. Although its color could be more exciting, it has a wonderful bubbly action and ultra smooth, sticky head. It really packs a punch with its floral and citrus aroma that had me wanting to dive right in, and the flavor doesn't disappoint. It was tasty and balanced. Although slightly dry, I could put down several of these bad boys. The dryness just makes me want more! I will definitely get this brew's name out there to my friends.

Piggybacked this after having A. Valley Spring Hornin IPA ten minutes prior, so perhaps skewed (or not):

Head / Aroma: light amber, with minimal carbonation (dawned on me that this poured into chilled pint glass while Hornin was not); fruity / hoppy sweet smell

Taste: since not a hoppy beer lover, and this being my 3rd IPA taste test in 3 days (2nd in past half hour), must say that negative aftertaste I dislike only mildly apparent (again, either taste buds numb shattered by Hornin IPA or L. Cannon more tolerable to me than either Inversion IPA or Hornin IPA)--egads, I was about to write "perhaps even acceptable tasting". Acceptable tasting it is, but this may be beer buzz / taste bud numbness talking; anyhow, I may have to re-trial this one at a later, more sober time.

Drinkability: perhaps after 2nd one, a smooth medium bodied experience awaits you.

Please note: homebrewed this morning (WH honey ale) and smells / tastes may be impacted for the better--as in tolerate, or worse--masking my normal disdain for IPA flavors; suffice to say nicest taste / aftertaste of the bunch in my current condition.

Bottle poured into 16oz Ball Mason jar.

I recently tasted this against "Aprihop", "Raging Bitch", & "HopSlam". Each have their place and the Loose Cannon stood out as the great all around Ale. Great beer for most every occasion. It held up perfectly to grilled red meat and the cheese platter. I'm not shocked that this classic beer could universally stand with everything thrown at it.

Picked up this one at Target of all places. Only thing mildly interesting and I had never had it. No expectations and it surprised me. Very good beer, great appearance with outstanding smell and taste, very balanced from a typically non-IPA guy. Overall this is an excellent beer that is a step behind some of the very good IPAs I have. Would certainly buy this again as it was a great value due to cost.
