Notes/Commercial Description:
Burnished gold with a rich citrus hop aroma, it is wonderfully drinkable with a big hop flavor. We’ve knicknamed it Hop3 (hop cubed) ale to reflect the enormous amount of hops in this beer: over 3 pounds per barrel! It is hopped 3 ways: in the kettle, in the hop back, and dry hopped.

On tap in a pint glass.

A- Golden-orange color, big off-white head, fluffy. ample amounts of all kinds of lacing. Bubbly.

S- Piney hop aroma, some citrus and malts.

T- It's malty paired with those piney hops and earthy floral flavor.

M- Big body, thick and resinous. Well carbonated. Long hope bite finish.

O- Big hop profile that is not overly bitter. Better tan I expected.

Poures a lighter golden with a thinner white head thatwas gone pretty fast leaving no lace behind, seemed a bit spritzy.Big pine filled aromas and herbal mint really seemed to stick out with a touch of caramel underneath.Obviously hop driven but not over the top, lingering resiny pine flavors over top of biscuity lightly sweet caramel malt, the citrus is there more in the finish the pine profile is a little bigger.A solid offering the alcohol is very well hidden and the flavors meld well, nice job here.

Appearance – This one came out light orange in color with a big, beautiful white head.

Smell – The hops here are huge and raunchy. The giant pine resin and pure, unadulterated orange aroma was just rank. It was the kind of smell that causes people to make a funny face. It was almost perfumey in a sense; it was such a concentrated smell.

Taste – This was just hop harsh in the mouth. If you don’t like hops you will definitely hate this beer. The hops aren’t even smooth, they are just raw in your face pine and rindy orange. Not to be outdone, the malts were big with some powdery spiciness.

Mouthfeel – This was medium-bodied with some sharp citrusy notes on the sides of the tongue. This felt very heavy going down. The ABV is a bit light to be called an “ADIPA” but it sure felt like a Double in the mouth.

Drinkability – This is an amazing ale with a huge, monster presence that you’ll either love or hate. I loved it!

Huge creamy vanilla head sitting atop an orange body. Looks pretty good.

Intense hops in the nose, grapefruit and other sweet citrus with some light hints of pine in the background.

Wow, juiciest of juicy hops sting the tastebuds and white grapes and oranges round out the experience. Initially clean, then halfway through the hops hit you, then drive right into a dead end road of white grapes, oranges, tangerines, and grapefruit. Little to no malt being tasted.

Carbonation is just right though.

The hops in this one are juicy and sweet with very little bitterness at all. Day in and day out this beer could keep me satisfied. This is a IPA that hardly gets the respect it deserves. A better choice than their black IPA.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

A: Poured a clear pale copper color with a plentiful fluffy white head. Great head retention and very good lacing.

S: Magnificent bouquet of hops; very floral! If you can get past the flowers, there is a little bit of pale malt undertone as well.

T&M: There is a creamy flood of malts and moderate hop flavor that immediately gush over the tongue. As the brew settles in there is more of a release of the bittering side of the hops that carries through the finish, leaving you with a quick clean hoppy linger. The carbonation on this is perfect; it's fine and moderate and helps create a creamy texture on the tongue.

D: Very enjoyable if you are a hop head and at the very least, respectable if you are not. I love IPAs and this is a fantastic representation. I enjoyed it a bunch and highly recommend it.

A - Deep gold, approaching amber. Nice size off white head that sticks around. Low carbonation, but that is due to tap I'm sure, regardless the head retention was very good.

S - Extreme hop aroma and it is all good. Nice floral and citrus hops really come through on the nose. There is also a sweet caramel malt note, but it is hop dominated.

T - Hops again take center stage here. Although the bitterness is not extreme there is a lot of hop flavor. Very balanced with the caramel malt profile.

M - Has some sweetness, but some is perceived due to the hops and is not left over sugars. Not too heavy at all, nice clean profile.

D - This is a great session IPA. It has a good ABV, but is not harsh in any way, very enjoyable taste and the bitterness does not get tiring.

Pours a clear orange with one finger of pale yellow head that dissipates slowly. Moderate lacing down the glass.

I don't even need to bring my nose to the glass to smell the hops. Very nice, very strong citrus, floral, and herbal smells.

Very good flavors, though a touch drier than I expected. Nice malt flavors come through, so the lack of sweetness may be just as much due to the higher alcohol content and hop bitterness as to a lower sugar content. Lingering bitterness at the finish with some warm drying of the palette due to the alcohol. Its strength and staying power border on overkill, but I like a good bitter taste. Also, bringing this one up to temperature is an absolute must. Don't even think about drinking it straight out of the fridge if you want to get the full flavor profile.

A very satisfying mouthful; nice and creamy with a good amount of carbonation (any more would be overkill for me).

Definitely a sipping beer for those with a strong taste for hops. I will definitely get this again; it could become a standby if Saranac ever wises up and raises the price of their Imperial IPA.

A: Translucent orangish amber with a decent white foamy head that sticks around for a small amount of time.

S: Fresh floral smell with some citrusy hops and sweet malt tones. Mild but a good smell.

T: Mainly citrus and piney hops but not a strong hoppy taste. Some random spice is also present. As well as some nice balancing malt.

M: Moderate spice and bitterness but little heat. Ok carbonation and a light but medium body.

D: Very drinkable for anyone who likes hops and still pretty drinkable for those who don't.

Overall it's a nice balanced beer that leans towards a daily drinker for those who prefer hops.

The Loose Cannon pours from the bottle a wonderful bright clear peachy color with a nice two fingers worth of creamy bubbly white head on top. Really awesome clarity on this brew. Aromas of fresh, bountiful citic, grapefruity hops that also have a big floral element to them as well. A sweet pale, light caramel malt lurks underneath. Peach and pineapple show up as well in the fruity hop onslaught...maybe there are some Amarillo's in here?? Either way it's a lovely aroma.

First sip brings a rush of sweet, pale, caramelly maltiness that almost instantly segues into a wall of bitter, fruity, citric hoppiness. Notes of peach, grapefruit and pineapple all make an appearance with a floral, green undertone. Fairly brash and a bit abrasive, however the malt still manages to pull everything together here. Vibrant, wonderful hop juice makes for a tasty brew.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth and a bit creamy. This one goes down really easily. A really tasty Double IPA that hits the nail on the head for me. Big, awesome hop flavors all around. I wish this was available locally as I'd be drinkin it regularly. Thanks to blitheringidiot for another fine east coast brew.

Nice clear body, light orange color, approaches apple juice. Nearly white head, little formed on the pour but stayed in a thin layer once reducing a bit.

Somewhat light aroma. Citrus and floral hops mainly but some pine undertones come through. Overall sweet but is nicely balanced with some caramel and biscuit malts.

Taste is okay, not much to it really and doesn't qualify as a double to me. That being said I find this one pretty well balanced. Earthy, biscuit malty bakbone. Hops are floral with a resin bitter finish. No hints of alcohol.

Thinnish mouthfeel for the style. Fairly crisp on the tongue. Coats well and the flavor lingers for a while.

Drinkability is good. Quite refreshing. sits light but still has flavor to make it seem like I'm actually drinking something.

I got this in a heavy seas variety pack

A: little hazy, copper, with a think white head

S: Citrus hops, a little pine, maybe had cascade and simcoe hops

T/M: Full of balanced hops, not harsh but a little mellow and tart, light to medium body, better carbination than other heavy seas,

Overall it is a great IPA, not a hophead, it wasnt harsh, so I could def drink this again

Pours a delicious dark golden that would make me think this beer is loaded with hops, even if I didnt already know the name of it was "Hop3 Ale."

The scent is amazing. Floral, extremely hoppy, and thick.

Taste is a little odd after inhaling that wonderful scent. I expected much more of a kick than I got. This is actually rather mild for what is supposed to be a hop ale. It is not overpoweringly bitter, which is what I expected. I dont know that I'm disappointed, though. This is rather tasty.

The mouthfeel is also kind of mild. Very interesting. Flows smoothly over my tongue. Can't sense a whole lot of carbonation. Kind of a bit funky aftertaste.

I would like to try this beer again. Very interesting experience. I'm not totally sure what to think of it overall.

A 12oz bottle with a best by date of August 2007. Poured into a pint glass, it was orange with a thin head and an oily film. Nice floral aroma. A hoppy taste, but somewhat muted. Not the hops bomb I was expecting. Still, a smooth beer, one that you could drink more than one of.

pours a golden hue with a slight reddish tinge.
bold citrusy sweet pronounced hop aroma. not overpowering or harsh but extremely pleasant. a good sign of what's to come.

sweeter than expected but very good. was expecting a lot of hop bitterness but this one seems balanced more towards the sweet side allowing the flavor of the hops to come through very well.

mouthfeel is just right.

Overall a very tasty brew with a delicious hop flavor and aroma. would drink this on a regular basis...if i could afford to.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. The label has very short description, freshness date and a 7.25% abv.

Appearance: It has beautiful light to medium amber hues with a tall and sticky off white head on top. The body also has a light haze and some nice visible carbonation flowing up to the head. As I drink the slow settling leaves lots of sticky lace patterns on the glass.

Smell: Right from the pop of the cap I get citrusy hop notes right up in my nose. Getting it into the glass it opens up with big citrusy grapefruit, sweet orange, peach and floral notes over light bready and pale biscuity maltiness.

Taste/Palate: Right up front there are nice sweet citrusy notes. Grapefruit and sweet orange marmalade notes flow across the tongue and over a mild bready malt base. This all thins out towards the finish and there is a very mild citrusy/floral hop bitterness in the end. The overall mouth feel is a light medium with a well balanced carbonation.

Notes: To start, this is one heck of a beautiful IPA. Its aroma is very pleasing as well as the juicy hops up front. It finishes a bit on the light side but overall I feel it’s still a very solid beer.

Appearance: Solid light orange appearance, little head retention, but still a gorgeous sight.

Smell:One of the best smelling beers I have ever had, if not the best. Amazing fruit character, with tangerines and peaches easily distinguishable. Some hop chararacter, but it is overpowered by the fruit characteristics.

Taste: Not as hoppy as many other Double IPA's, but still an amazing assortment of flavor. Generous amounts of citrus fruit, as well as noticable hop character make it a great experience.

Mouthfeel: Excellent carbonation, this beer makes your mouth tingle with excitement and anticipation.

Drinkability: Amazing! I could have had ten of these in one sitting, although I wouldnt recommend it. Truly one of the most drinkable IPA's or Double IPA's.

What an amazing beer, if you ever see it, give it a shot, you will not be disappointed.
