American IPA |  7.25% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Burnished gold with a rich citrus hop aroma, it is wonderfully drinkable with a big hop flavor. We’ve knicknamed it Hop3 (hop cubed) ale to reflect the enormous amount of hops in this beer: over 3 pounds per barrel! It is hopped 3 ways: in the kettle, in the hop back, and dry hopped.

"Em-kay class, today we're gonna talk about IPAs..."

Appearance: Bold gold; nice sustaining white head
Smell: hops, baby! Reminiscent of Liberty Ale aroma: West Coast hops ad infinitum. That AND a wonderful sweet aroma of well-used and cooked malt.
Taste: Simply true. Yes, this is an American IPA to be proud off as it has the characteristics you'd expect: Floral hop bitterness, fruity, citrus foretaste, excellent caramel and almond-y sweet finish.
Mouthfeel: What balance! A classic American IPA: hops up front, malt in the back, balanced throughout. Nothing lacking here.
Drinkability: Money well spent. I picked this brew up as a part of a "mix-n-match" session while on a quick trip to Indiana last October. I'm happy to report that this beer is in excellent condition, and has been resting comfortably in my cellar for the past four months. I only wish I'd bought a sixer!

Piggybacked this after having A. Valley Spring Hornin IPA ten minutes prior, so perhaps skewed (or not):

Head / Aroma: light amber, with minimal carbonation (dawned on me that this poured into chilled pint glass while Hornin was not); fruity / hoppy sweet smell

Taste: since not a hoppy beer lover, and this being my 3rd IPA taste test in 3 days (2nd in past half hour), must say that negative aftertaste I dislike only mildly apparent (again, either taste buds numb shattered by Hornin IPA or L. Cannon more tolerable to me than either Inversion IPA or Hornin IPA)--egads, I was about to write "perhaps even acceptable tasting". Acceptable tasting it is, but this may be beer buzz / taste bud numbness talking; anyhow, I may have to re-trial this one at a later, more sober time.

Drinkability: perhaps after 2nd one, a smooth medium bodied experience awaits you.

Please note: homebrewed this morning (WH honey ale) and smells / tastes may be impacted for the better--as in tolerate, or worse--masking my normal disdain for IPA flavors; suffice to say nicest taste / aftertaste of the bunch in my current condition.

Bottle poured into 16oz Ball Mason jar.

I recently tasted this against "Aprihop", "Raging Bitch", & "HopSlam". Each have their place and the Loose Cannon stood out as the great all around Ale. Great beer for most every occasion. It held up perfectly to grilled red meat and the cheese platter. I'm not shocked that this classic beer could universally stand with everything thrown at it.

Picked up this one at Target of all places. Only thing mildly interesting and I had never had it. No expectations and it surprised me. Very good beer, great appearance with outstanding smell and taste, very balanced from a typically non-IPA guy. Overall this is an excellent beer that is a step behind some of the very good IPAs I have. Would certainly buy this again as it was a great value due to cost.
