Notes/Commercial Description:
Burnished gold with a rich citrus hop aroma, it is wonderfully drinkable with a big hop flavor. We’ve knicknamed it Hop3 (hop cubed) ale to reflect the enormous amount of hops in this beer: over 3 pounds per barrel! It is hopped 3 ways: in the kettle, in the hop back, and dry hopped.

Poured into a widmer weizen glass, (interesting choice) it's gold amber with a great, lasting head and bubbles streaming up the middle of the glass until the last sip.

The aroma is a nice, east coast style hoppy. Some sappy pine and orange citrus. Very juicy and fresh, this tap was tapped within weeks.

The nice thing about the flavor here is the big, hoppy citrus note in the middle. Bitterness is low enough to not get in the way of hop flavor. The malt character is light bodied, probably some light lovibond specialty malts. Alcohol is hidden very nicely. Bitterness is welcoming and not too ever the top. It's pretty tight, but it's not blowing me away.

Mouthfeel is quite light for the size, which is nice. Carbonation is in the medium range, but perhaps a little high for my tastes. I would welcome another pint of this. It didn't surprise me but it was worth a try and enjoyable throughout.

Pours a clear golden orange color with light amber hues when held to a light source and a one finger foamy white head that quickly fades into a lasting ring. Minimal lacing.

Massive hop aroma fills the room once the bottle is opened. Lots of earthy and floral hops, resinous hop oil, citrus notes with a caramel malt backbone and a slight hint of grass.

Once again the earthy/floral hops dominate the flavor. Resinous chewy mouthfeel with a huge hop blast of bitterness that lasts throughout, lingering over the caramel malt backbone into a bitter dry finish. Medium bodied with a nice balance from the malt profile. Slightly sweet from the citrus notes and the alcohol is very well masked.

Poured a light amber with a reasonable head that faded to a collar. The aroma was typically citrus. The taste is nice, a lemon-grapefruit, but a little malty. No bitter aftertaste. Feel is medium bodied with little carbonation. The drinkability is good, I'd like several.

Poured a light bronze, amber with basically no head whatsoever.

Smells hoppy, somewhat bitter citrus.

Taste is malty hops, crisp with a slight hint of lime.

The higher alcohol content is not readily detectable, making the beer fairly drinkable.

Overall an underwhelming beer.

A: Pours out just slightly hazy in a dark orange-bronze hue. Not much head, unfortunately, but there's some retention of what's there.

S: Hops, definitely, but not as potent as I expected. Some sweet notes stand out too. I smell apple juice a bit.

T: More hops than anything else - an uninspiring beginning, and then the finish, which is accompanied by sour flavors too - blah.

M: Pretty average. Nothing much to say.

D: It's coming off a little weird, I must say, and the sourness is turning off. It's OK, but that's about it.

On tap pint. Nice golden color with about a thumb's thickness head. Smelled mostly of hops but not too strong. The taste was a perfect blend of hops, citrus and spice. None of the tastes were out of balance, which is a problem I encounter with lots of ipas. Mouthfeel was light and smooth. Easy, good beer to drink.

A- Light orange, nice lacing.
S- Hops, pine needles, sweet.
M- Good body.
T- Great taste. Balanced sweetness and hoppiness in the front. What's great about this brew is how the hops play with the sweetness on your tongue after you take a drink.
D- Superb drinkability. This one goes down easy for such a complex brew.

Pours a nice golden orange, nice big white head that fades. Leaves nice sticky lacing down the glass. Nice aroma of pine, grapefruit, good hoppy scent. Taste is very nice. Not a big hop explosion, but more of a gentle smooth hop taste.
Blend of grapefruit, a little sour apple and nice piney hops. This is a great IPA for those who don't want that hard kick in the head of hops that some IPAs give off. This is more a smooth crisp hop experience. A great IPA to enjoy
one after another.

Bright golden orange. Thick chunky white head that sits. Gives way to a hop oily foam. Thick sticky shoestring laces.

MMM...Hops! Citrus, Sour Grapefruit, Floral, Pine, Herbal Resinous and more. toasted biscuit. Small hint of yeast.

Citrus twang. Big grapefruit and orange, herbal and floral with a mild spiciness. Mild toasted biscuit malts. Bitter resinous grapefruit/pine finish.

Smooth, medium to lighter bodied, average carbonation. resinous sticky.

Hopalicious. big hop forward IPA^3. mild biscuit malts showcase the amazing hop profile. Great Aromatics. Great in warm weather, i could drink this one all the time, and do.

Pours a bright rusty color with golden hues, very similar to a sunset. A wee bit hazy, with a lovely poofy off white head, and some lacing around the glass. This is a very pretty beer.

Smells quite sweet- apricot, apple juice, and lavender come to mind. The grassy hops smell doesn't overpower the sweetness, but rather evens it out. There's also a bit of a citrus zing to finish up one good sniff.

Taste is... not what I expected. It's a bit less sweet than the nose is, though the apple juice is still coming through. Not nearly as bitter as I anticipated. After the burst of sweetness is a light grassy hops taste, a bit of bready malt backbone, and that's it. It just kind of falls flat. Nothing to round it off and really grab you. Still, it's not at all unpleasant tasting.

Mouthfeel is a bit too thin for my tastes, but it's very slick, and has enough of a sudsy feel to it. Kinda filmy.

Overall- not a bad beer at all. I'd prefer some more oomph in the flavor department, and a bit of a thicker chewier bite to it, but at 7%, and on a hot day, especially? A very good choice.

A- Pours a nice golden amber with a pretty impressive head. Good lacing and retention, this head is light and sits nicely on the beer.

S- Hops (duh). A spice, like coriander or cinnamon.. interesting. Hops are sweet and unoffensive, very floral.

T- Folows the nose, fruity citrus hops and piney hops battle, with piney hops winning.

M- Slightly sweeter than expected. Good body, though... works perfectly with the flavors.

D- Pretty high.. I will buy a 6er of this next time!

On tap at Track 84. This sits right on the line between IPA and Double/Imperial. Aroma and taste are delightfully fruity and piney. Considering the abv is north of 7%, it is very very drinkable. Really a great balance in the hops. Obviously they're in your face and come on strong, but not so much that you couldn't enjoy a second glass. Overall this is one of my new favorites.

12oz bottle poured into a shaped pint glass.

Heavy Seas Loose Cannon poured cloudy gold-to-light amber with a massive thick head that left thick sticky lace.

The smell and taste were crisp, light, and citric. The feel was also light. It was refreshing and enjoyable on a hot day--very easy to drink for an IPA; however, it was passive with little impact on the palate.

Heavy Seas Loose Cannon is a light easy IPA, that's a bit too easy for an IPA.

This bottle says purchase before June of 2009... I hope that one month over won't be too bad. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, beer is a copper-orange color with a one-finger, frothy head that looks like it will hold good lacing and does. This beer may be from Baltimore but the smell is all west coast. The nose is a nice bouquet of herbal and citrusy hops. Grapefruit, pine resin and some earthy notes shine through. The flavor is surprisingly malty at first but quickly balanced by the hoppiness of the beer. Incredibly balanced! Finishes very smooth with only a small hop kiss and barely a hint of alcohol. Very well done indeed! The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a thin yet creamy carbonation. Overall very drinkable given the ABV, one tasty AIPA that could sneak up on you. I don't think that being one month over on this beer hurt it much and if it did then I cannot hardly imagine how good it would be fresh.

Poured from the bottle, which I let warm for a few. Nice clear copper-orange color with a great, clumpy white head. A thin layer sticks around. Nose is straight-up hoppy! One of the best I've sniffed in a while-- the Amarillo character really shines through.

Flavor is hoppy as hell, but not necessarily characteristic of a hop "bomb". Piney, but also citrusy. I like the amount of hop flavor in comparison to the bitterness, which was not overpowering. Sweet malts. Medium mouthfeel could have been more luscious, but carbonation was nice, relatively low. This one is definitely satisfying the hop urge.

A solid, hoppy IPA with a great nose.

Pours a clear caramel/copper color with a nice dense off-white head that settles into a nice cap. The aroma is of a piney asprin hop and a sweet honey malt. The taste is of a piney asprin hop, some citrus and tropical fruit. Must admit that I was expecting more hops. A nice honey malt plays a supporting role. The feel is light to moderate, lighter than I expected. Fairly soft carbonation lead to a smooth feel. A good AIPA but not great. A bit subdued for its higher ABV, though the ABV is well hidden.

The taste is the same hoppy yet smooth with earthy notes and a little citrus. The mouthfeel is a little syrupy with not alot of carbonation, a little dry. Drinkability is decent, a good solid IPA.

A: Amber-orange that's just bursting with radiance when sunlight infuses it. Carbonation is extremely active as little effervescent bubbles make their way to the top, and the brew is capped with a thin head that is rock-solid.

S: Hops permeate it with a sweet lychee scent.

T: A strong hop taste that is at once sweet and acidic. A small horseradish-like kick makes its way through the nose. The tongue is left with a powerful bitterness and a residual phenolic taste. Overall, this is somewhat one-dimensional: it declares itself as a hoppy ale and makes no pretense to be anything else.

M: Nice and creamy as it hits the mouth, with a juicy body and a somewhat dry finish.

D: Another wonderfully drinkable brew from Clipper City Brewery.

Appearance: copper color and hazy with an off white head. Nice lace

Smell: pine hops, not as in your face as non-cask

Taste: earth flavors, pine, citrus. The alcohol is not very evident in the taste.

Mouthfeel: tang, lite and mellow, smooth even with the hops.

Drinkability: very nice smooth drink, a little bitter on the tongue

Cask Ale is darker than regular also much smoother IPA bitterness

Watched the Firkin get tapped and the whole thing was gone in 1.5 hours, they tapped a Lagunitas IPA right after, pity I couldn't stay.

A - Smaller head, maybe a finger's width.
S - Hoppy and sharp.
T - Just like it smelled. Dry. APA that is over-hopped. I tend to like a bit more balanced for this much hop taste but not much more.
M - Caught a little bit of skunkiness, but overall a smooth, crisp brew.
D - Easy to go through two or three of these as hoppy as they are.

Appearance: Pours a clear brass with a rocky white head that is very thick. Good head rentention that leaves thick lacing.

Aroma: A decent hop nose on this one. Notes of sweet fruits a little like strawberries sprinkled with sugar. The malts are there but more on the lines of roasted very lightly.

Taste: Lots of nourishing hops in this one a little on the fruity side not very floral but that is certainly not a bad thing. The mouthfeel is very smooth with a little stickiness to it. It gives the pallate a nice coating.

Notes: This is a very nice and well rounded i.p.a very drinkable. Cheers

A: Pours a somewhat translucent orange-bronze color. The head has an orange tint, and is tall, thick, and densely frothy. Retention is good, with wispy, weblike lacing along the sides of the glass.

S: A very nice, fruity aroma. Equal parts orange juice and grapefruit pith, with some pineapple hints. Perhaps a touch of floral hops as well. Some pale malts give off a faint breadiness.

T: A faintly doughy pale malt flavor makes itself known up front substantially but unobtrusively for the style. A strong dose of hop flavors - white grapefruit and orange oil mostly. Some notes of tropical fruit - pineapple and perhaps papaya. Definite floral bitterness as the beer continues to work on the palate. Not overly bitter, but it does have a considerable cumulative effect.

M: Slightly full-bodied. A firm dryness into the finish thanks to robust hoppiness. Carbonation is moderately tingly.

D: A very nice, robust IPA from Clipper City. While it falls a little short of outstanding, it's still very good. This hop bill recalls Troegs Nugget Nectar in some ways with its citrusy and tropical flavors. Well balanced and drinkable.

Review from notes taken 06-30-09

A-nice golden hue with a thin head that faded quickly.

S-Smell of sweet floral hops with some nice malt notes mixed in.

T-Citrus hops with a sweet malty backbone, but theres just something there that I'm not digging.

M-Is this thing carbonated? Syrupy sweet, thick and coating with a slick oily finish. Its just not my thing.

D-Ok, I like my hop bombs with IBUs through the roof, and this just isn't getting it for me. I can't see drinking more than one of these.
