Poured into St. Bernardus chalice. Looks like a run-of-the-mill belgian dubbel of ilk. Soft tan head that disipates. Tawny port color. Smell of sweet malt.
Delicious! Wonderful malt and sugary notes up front. Tastes a bit like a good American Merlot. Fruity and a touch balsamic. Slightly phenolic in the finish with a hint of hops to round out the mouthfeel. Extremely smooth and drinkable. I have been impressed with Clipper City's "Heavy Seas" series. Well-made products that are approachable and fun to try.
A very good interpretation of Belgian dark ale. I'm serving mine up with a pot of sausage jambalaya and french bread. I even added a touch to the pot. :D
