A 12 oz bottle dated fresh before May '13
A - Pitch black, with some nice lacing on the glass. A cloudy white hue left on the top of the beer
S - Dark malty notes, burnt beans, and chocolate.
T - Rich dark malty notes, chocolate, but sweet undertones. Nice hop aftertaste.
M - High carbonation, oily and slick
O - A good beer, but I think the Avery New World Porter is more tasty for this style.

Appearance: Black, foamy tan head that never died, nice lacing that held on throughout the drink.
Smell: Heavy peppery hop smell with a slight hint of fruit at the rear of the nose.
Taste: Not at all what I expect from an IPA. Smooth and almost sweet at the front with a quick hit of bitter hops and a slight but not lingering hop aftertaste. Mixed in the middle is a fig/fruit sweetness that comes as quickly as it leaves.
Mouthfeel: Very light for an IPA.
Overall: Quite good for a dark IPA. I'm glad I found this on cask. I'm thinking the cask toned it down. Overall a good drink.
