A: Pitch black all around. No light transfers. Creamy , khaki colored 1/2 finger head.
S: Earth, tobacco, dark chocolate, raspberry, smoke and soot. Smells like a smoker's jacket after coming in from an outside cig break.
T: Tobacco, burnt, black, dark, overly roast malts, big black patent and roasted barley. I notice a heavy fog of thick smoke in the flavor. As if someone blew a smoke ring in my glass before drinking.
M: Medium bodied. Sweet and dry balance. No alcohol noticeable.
O: I'm not a smoker and since this resonates large tobacco notes, I'm not that into it. Although it is a refreshing take on Black IPAs. Since it's such a new style it still doesn't have a perfect commercial example since so many vary on the opinion of what the style should be. I like the take but it's not my favorite in the bunch. Should remove tobacco elements and keep more American hop varieties on board.

Appearance: Black, foamy tan head that never died, nice lacing that held on throughout the drink.
Smell: Heavy peppery hop smell with a slight hint of fruit at the rear of the nose.
Taste: Not at all what I expect from an IPA. Smooth and almost sweet at the front with a quick hit of bitter hops and a slight but not lingering hop aftertaste. Mixed in the middle is a fig/fruit sweetness that comes as quickly as it leaves.
Mouthfeel: Very light for an IPA.
Overall: Quite good for a dark IPA. I'm glad I found this on cask. I'm thinking the cask toned it down. Overall a good drink.
