Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a bronze color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is is slightly sweet, some hops. Taste is well balanced hops and malts, a touch of citrus, smooth and easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a bit different, and a quality beer.

Poured into a tulip glass a lightly hazed peach-like color with a thinner but well sustained white head.Phenools and stone fruit in the nose, light citrus comes thru but its light, not bad aromas.Flavors are yeasty with light citric tones,a bit of toastiness rounds out the flavor profile. Its not bad but not a whole lot of complexity here, there are better of the style out there, but its drinkable.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #65 (June 2012):

LOOK: Weathered amber; tight, tiny-bubbled lace

SMELL: Buckwheat honey, peppery, guava, persimmon, lemon pith, medicinal, estery, yeast, dried grass, toasted bread

TASTE: Smooth, medium bodied, bitter snap, phenolic, ripe tropical fruit, grassy, evergreen, yeast, peppercorn, leafy, porridge; dry, bitter finish

From the first sip, Double Cannon goes right to the palate for a submission. We are not going to tapout, though it doesn’t let up much at all, which of course makes us want to take another sip. A vicious circle that we’ll sit back and enjoy. Great marriage between two thoughts of brewing.

This beer was a cherry amber color with a tiny white head and a bit of lace.
Aroma of cotton candy, spice, and citrus. Kind of peppery in the nose.
Candy taste, spicy, a lot of grapefruit. Pleasant beer, easy to drink. Would definitely go for this again.

12 ounce bottle, has freshness info, but its with a twist..."Purchase before" info notched onto the label.

Pours darker almond amber, slightly hazed. Medium tan head, slowly fades to a thicker film, collar and leaves moderate spotty lacing.

I get mostly cloves, some yeast and malts in the nose.

This is called a "Belgian style IPA" on the label and here on BA, but I'm not convinced. Really seems more like a hoppy dubbel or another sort of mixed up hybrid.

More cloves, ripe fruit, bready sweet malts...more and more I'm getting a dubbel feel rather than an IPA....anyway, this one just seems to be sort of a question mark to me. Has a warming quality, that makes me think of this as a decent beer to go along with a winter meal, like thanksgiving dinner perhaps

Pours just a half fingers worth of off white head. This dies down immediately to just about nothing. Wow this is bubble less. Looks like root beer soda.

This smells like root beer soda as well. I'm serious when I say this. Clove, sarsaparilla, other root beer like spices. No hops that I can discern can be found.

Tastes similar to root beer. Sasparilla, vanilla, clove, some banana yeast notes. A touch of herbal hops. Quite sweet with a mild hop bitterness. This leans towards the very sweet side in the end.

Mouthfeel is medium with it's light carbonation and very mild hop bitterness in the finish. A solid sweetness hits in the mid palate.

Overall this is a let down. Its a weak attempt at an IPA, never-mind if it's Belgian or not. Quite sweet and root beer flavored.
$1.80 a single. Probably never to pick this one up. Maybe it's a bad batch, maybe not.

On-tap at Young Augustine’s in Atlanta.

Pours a hazy copper color with a one-finger slightly off-white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of pale malts with large amounts of citrus hops. Also present are hints of bready yeast, light spice, and slight pear aromas.

Tastes very similar to how it smells. Slightly dry pale malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by citrus and herbal hops. Midway through the sip bready yeast thickens things up. Near the end of the sip slight medium fruit flavors come into play, fading out into a moderately bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It’s got a nice thickness with smooth carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I had no problems finishing my glass and could have another.

Overall I thought this was an interesting beer, but far from a traditional Belgian IPA (which I assume was not the intent of the brewery). Worth a shot, but not worth seeking.

ST: 12oz poured into a Tulip glass.

A: Dark chestnut brown with a fluffy white head that sticks on the glass.

S: Malt, pine, citrus, and banana.

T: Citrus, banana, bubblegum, herbs, with a bitter sweet finish that is syrupy.

M: Surprisingly on the light side of medium bodied.

O: A pleasant Belgium IPA that is not as rich or complex as actual Belgium IPAs. However, it is not a bad beer and does have some balance. It is slightly thin towards the end (though the finish stuck in the throat).

Another one from Crabbicuss in N00b BIF 4. Thanks bud.

Poured a pretty dark reddish brown color with a bit of slightly off-white head.

Smell is malty with a bit of spice to it. Not much hops in there.

Taste is fairly malty but it does have a slight bitter hop finish.

Mouthfeel is medium. Good drinking beer. Went down smooth.

Overall a good quality Belgian IPA. I liked it.

We got a sneak preview of this one. It poured semi-coffee black with a nice creamy head. Hops were distinct, really hitting my nose. I was expecting a really heavy dose of hops, yet at my first sip, there was a perfect balance between body, malt, spices and hops.

My mouth was filled with the first sip, which I always think is a fantastic description of any beverage. With the hops, I detected a small amount of vanilla nuttiness, almost like toffee.
The finish was just as good as the start, and in fact I think it finished even nicer

This was a really nice beer to drink, soft and fun, light and full, hoppy and not.

I will have this one again

On tap at Busy Bee in Raleigh

A - dark amber with a thin but dense, white head that has good retention

S - floral hops, very faint Belgian yeast

T - fruity, apples, pears, spicy, herbal, floral, caramel

M - medium bodied, smooth, a bit crisp

This is a decent Belgian IPA. It is definitely more hoppy than most beers in this style. The Belgian flavors are there but for the most part are masked by the intense floral hop character. It wasn't bad at all. Probably worth a try.

Caramel amber, with nice frothy head. Cool bicycle-spoke lace.

Nose is spicy (I get the Belgian yeast), with some sour fruit tones, and maybe some orange citrus. Interesting and appealing.

Taste is grapefruit hops, and a hint of banana and clove. A curious and unusual flavor combo, and it works quite well. Superb!

A: pours a clear mahogany, with ruby tints when held to the light, into a DFH signature glass. It has about a finger of khaki head that thins rather quickly and didn't leave much lacing.

S: hoppy and fruity. Citrus notes are heavy; leathery, and dark pitted fruits. Figs dates and such.

T: interesting. Hoppy but sweet like the nose, however its still different. The figs, dates and plums are there but joined by a dark biscuit flavor. The citrus is there and balances out the fruity-ness but a lemon hangs in the mouth.

MF: medium body, sweet but not cloying or syrupy. Light carbonation.

O: good but it doesn't match up to a loose cannon for a regular basis buy.

Big thanks to billab914 for sending this one as an extra in a recent trade! Purchase before August 2011! Served from bottle into a Boulevard tulip. Poured a deep red-orange with a three finger off-white head that subsed to half a finger very slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, banana, coriander, cinnamon, clove, and smoke. The flavor was of sweet malt, smoke, ham, clove, subtle banana, and citrus. It had a light feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was an excellent brew. Very nice flavor and aroma going on in this one. The flavor was what really surprised me as it kind of reminded me of a holiday ham if I'm honest. This one was definitely a surprise as I went into this one not expecting too much. Enjoyed this one quite a bit. Would definitely have again and suggest you do as well!
