Pours dark brown/black with a small brown head fading quickly. Little to no lacing.

Big chocolate aroma with a little bit of vanilla creating a milk chocolate smell. A little oak and bourbon but it's in the background.

Big on chocolate flavor as well. Not a ton of roast in this one as it's on the sweeter side which is nicely balanced by the barrel. Not a ton of bourbon presence, but enough to cut the sweetness and add some good vanilla notes to the beer. Had a piece of Dove dark chocolate with this and it was the perfect pairing.

Medium bodied with low carbonation levels.

Pleasantly surprised by this. I prefer my barrel aged stouts to have a little more bourbon presence and the carbonation was a bit low even for the style. Despite those minor issues still a good beer and at only $8.49 for a bomber, a great price point as well.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2014 vintage bottling. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, caramel, vanilla, oak, toffee, light bourbon, herbal, light dark fruit, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, chocolate, and moderate barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, caramel, toffee, vanilla, oak, light bourbon, light dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of roast/oaky bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, roast, toast, caramel, toffee, vanilla, oak, light bourbon, light dark fruit, herbal, and roast/oaky earthiness. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, chocolate, and moderate bourbon barrel flavors; with nice robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy, smooth, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice imperial stout. All around good balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/roasted malt, chocolate, and moderate bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

2013 vintage. 22oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with some brown hues and light getting through; small tan head that fades very fast and leaves solid retention and little lacing. Smells good. The aromas are loaded with dark chocolate and bourbon. Some toffee and and butterscotch along with some dark fruits. Some vanilla giving it a chocolate chip cookie vibe. Cocoa and caramel malts are there. Some oak/wood. The aromas aren't aggressive, but they're very enjoyable. The flavors start off intense, but really mellow out the more you drink it. It starts off with tons of bitter dark chocolate. Lots of coffee too adding to the bitterness. Very roasty. I'm picking up the raisins. The oak/wood is present. The bourbon is clearly there, but it's not over the top. There is an extremely subtle warmth in the finish. The alcohol goes unnoticed for the most part. Just a kiss of booze. It's pretty easy to drink. The mouthfeel is pretty light and has a ton of carbonation, maybe too much. It's still pretty smooth and is easy to drink.

This is a pretty solid BBA stout. It's not something that blew me away, but it was pretty fun to drink. It feels flawed at times, but still remains enjoyable.

A - Black with a khaki head

S - Milk chocolate and oak. The bourbon is very slight which is disappointing.

T - Same as the smell. It's like they melted a milk chocolate bar and added a drop of bourbon. I will say that it is very smooth with no alcohol sting.

M - Not very thick for an imperial stout

O - Enjoyable. While it is a smooth-drinking stout, I wished there was more bourbon barrel character to it.

Poured into 22oz snifter; black as night with a small fizzy tan head that fades quickly leaving some patchy foam on top.
Smells like a good BBA stout; bourbon, coffee, chocolate, toffee/caramel sweetness.
Tastes pretty standard; a bit unbalanced though. The bourbon flavor keeps thinning out into an odd fake vanilla flavor at the end, and there isn't really much coffee/chocolate in the malt to support anything. Might be too cold yet...it does get better as it warms. The coffee and chocolate come out a lot better, but there's still no avoiding that sickly-sweet weird faux-vanilla aftertaste. Eh well. 20oz to go...
Mouthfeel is big and slick.
Overall, besides the off flavor, this is a pretty good BA stout. Nothing amazing, bit unbalanced, but pretty good.

This was delicious & thanks to tien @ Mekong for turning me on to this one. Great taste and even better finish. Hint - Pour and let breath at room temp for about 10 minutes before you get absolutely blown away @ your first sip. OMG the smell - they should make car fresheners :) The only reason i don't rate this as perfect is because it gives me a reason not to open the 2 bottles that i was able to find next year to review/score again!

eyes...
foamy bastard, to be fair I wasn't uber careful on the pour, so right now I am looking at an everest of foam, like a fist worth, ok, it is at normal size now, light cocoa hue head, great lacing of microbubbles forming delicate sheets down the glass, nearly pitch black, can't really
see if there is any carbonation going on but judging from the well fed head I would assume it so, a nice looking beer

nose...
holy bourbon barrels batman, this reeks of heavy bourbon booze, the chocolate takes some work to detect but it is there, this is all bourbon... all the time... so if you like bourbon, pony up slappy

taste etc...
boozy with the chocolate attempting to temper the booze hammer from smashing your face to the point that you look like OJ after he falls out of the stadium in Naked Gun 2 (boy I really stretched that one...), as you acclimate to this the chocolate component is more apparent and the barrel aging kind of lends a nice vanilla note to the finish with subtle bitterness in the background, nice and thick in the mouth, carbonation is there to hold your hand but not interfere, the flavor is really smoothed out, I thought this might get a bit too sweet after a while but it has held out well making you go back for another sip, smooth experience here, not big flavors but nice flavors, subtle chocolate and a decent booziness, the ABV definitely says hello

verdict?
a really smooth drinking brew, the barrel aging really does well here, the initial crazy boozy notes mellowed out and led this to being one tasty somnabeach
