This was delicious & thanks to tien @ Mekong for turning me on to this one. Great taste and even better finish. Hint - Pour and let breath at room temp for about 10 minutes before you get absolutely blown away @ your first sip. OMG the smell - they should make car fresheners :) The only reason i don't rate this as perfect is because it gives me a reason not to open the 2 bottles that i was able to find next year to review/score again!

eyes...
foamy bastard, to be fair I wasn't uber careful on the pour, so right now I am looking at an everest of foam, like a fist worth, ok, it is at normal size now, light cocoa hue head, great lacing of microbubbles forming delicate sheets down the glass, nearly pitch black, can't really
see if there is any carbonation going on but judging from the well fed head I would assume it so, a nice looking beer

nose...
holy bourbon barrels batman, this reeks of heavy bourbon booze, the chocolate takes some work to detect but it is there, this is all bourbon... all the time... so if you like bourbon, pony up slappy

taste etc...
boozy with the chocolate attempting to temper the booze hammer from smashing your face to the point that you look like OJ after he falls out of the stadium in Naked Gun 2 (boy I really stretched that one...), as you acclimate to this the chocolate component is more apparent and the barrel aging kind of lends a nice vanilla note to the finish with subtle bitterness in the background, nice and thick in the mouth, carbonation is there to hold your hand but not interfere, the flavor is really smoothed out, I thought this might get a bit too sweet after a while but it has held out well making you go back for another sip, smooth experience here, not big flavors but nice flavors, subtle chocolate and a decent booziness, the ABV definitely says hello

verdict?
a really smooth drinking brew, the barrel aging really does well here, the initial crazy boozy notes mellowed out and led this to being one tasty somnabeach

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass. Vintage 2014.

A pour of deep mahogany out of the bottle and filling up produces a good but short lived one finger head. Head is a good cocoa brown, and thin bubbled but falls to a simple populated collar and very thin puck. Quite dark body, black walnut and with a little bit of transparency and red edges.

Pretty nice and good but not wow nose. Very soft silky chocolate notes, and soft roasted grains. Nice and a bit husky and chewy too it seems. Chocolate forward more than anything else, but not much barrel sensing character here though.

Interesting on first sip. This is a very rich and luxurious palate feel, with silky chocolate qualities and a playful sense of carbonation surprisingly. It's slightly jarring but not too bad but it makes for some fun play in the mouth. It's the first thing I notice. Then the chocolate of dark quality comes with a good mix of fudge dense thick flavors. Some nice char and carbon on the finish as well, and some more fruit astringent character too.

It seems more of a very decent imperial stout, there's some complexity going on in the palate a bit too, but I really don't get the big round feel, and oak aromas and flavors coming out of this unfortunately. Still a decent brew though, but kind of tough to score surprisingly, 3.75 seems slightly generous overall, 4 too much, and 3.5 way too low.. let's call it 3.6999 and we'll be happy.
