Pours a black color with a fairly tight toasted khaki colored head. Settles quickly into a small cap.

The aroma is of a lovely caramel and vanilla. Candy bar quality. Nice chocolate from the nibs as well. A slight bourbon note. Seriously, nice candy bar aromas.

The taste is of a light roast with a big caramel sweetness that brings along some vanilla. Subtle milk chocolate flavors mix their way through. Some dark bitter chocolate as well. The bourbon is very subtle; hides itself well with the vanilla notes.

The feel is light to moderate, a bit underwhelming for a stout. The carbonation is a tad fizzy. Quite sweet on the palate but has enough of a roasty bitter offset. A touch sticky in the finish.

A very tasty stout. Not a bourbon bomb by any means; it is actually kind of light in that department. I really dig the chocolate, vanilla, and caramel notes. Not too strong and the play well together.

2014 vintage bottle poured into an ommegang snifter.

Pours a deep black with khaki head - not incredibly viscous. Smell is good, but nothing too overpowering - certainly smells tasty but nothing striking here. Taste is good as well. I was pleasantly surprised by this - lots of chocolate, roast, creamy mouthfeel even at the low ABV (for a BBA stout). Not too much bourbon, would have preffered a little more. Roast and slight bitterness on the finish.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2014 vintage bottling. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, caramel, vanilla, oak, toffee, light bourbon, herbal, light dark fruit, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, chocolate, and moderate barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, caramel, toffee, vanilla, oak, light bourbon, light dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of roast/oaky bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, roast, toast, caramel, toffee, vanilla, oak, light bourbon, light dark fruit, herbal, and roast/oaky earthiness. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, chocolate, and moderate bourbon barrel flavors; with nice robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy, smooth, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice imperial stout. All around good balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/roasted malt, chocolate, and moderate bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

2013 vintage. 22oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with some brown hues and light getting through; small tan head that fades very fast and leaves solid retention and little lacing. Smells good. The aromas are loaded with dark chocolate and bourbon. Some toffee and and butterscotch along with some dark fruits. Some vanilla giving it a chocolate chip cookie vibe. Cocoa and caramel malts are there. Some oak/wood. The aromas aren't aggressive, but they're very enjoyable. The flavors start off intense, but really mellow out the more you drink it. It starts off with tons of bitter dark chocolate. Lots of coffee too adding to the bitterness. Very roasty. I'm picking up the raisins. The oak/wood is present. The bourbon is clearly there, but it's not over the top. There is an extremely subtle warmth in the finish. The alcohol goes unnoticed for the most part. Just a kiss of booze. It's pretty easy to drink. The mouthfeel is pretty light and has a ton of carbonation, maybe too much. It's still pretty smooth and is easy to drink.

This is a pretty solid BBA stout. It's not something that blew me away, but it was pretty fun to drink. It feels flawed at times, but still remains enjoyable.

A - Black with a khaki head

S - Milk chocolate and oak. The bourbon is very slight which is disappointing.

T - Same as the smell. It's like they melted a milk chocolate bar and added a drop of bourbon. I will say that it is very smooth with no alcohol sting.

M - Not very thick for an imperial stout

O - Enjoyable. While it is a smooth-drinking stout, I wished there was more bourbon barrel character to it.
