English Pale Ale |  4.80% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Traditional English-style pale ale with our own East Coast twist: UK Fuggles and Goldings dominate the flavor of Powder Monkey, but has subtle notes of citrus and flower from Cascade hops added in the boil and hopback. Brass in color, Powder Monkey, like all of our beers, is well balanced: distinct bitterness and a slight malt sweetness characterize the taste. In 2010, it won a bronze medal at the World Beer Cup; in 2008, it won a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival.

A - clear, see-through orangish amber with a thin, bubbly head that dissipates quickly

S - very faint nose; some citrsu

T - very faint caramel, some faint citrus, a mildly bitter finish, hints of sweetness throughout

M - light to medium bodied, well carbonated

This is a rather simple pale ale. It's refreshing and easily drinkable, but the flavor lacks and depth. I was bored with this beer, but it would make for a great BMC replacement beer for the newly craft-initiated.

A: Slightly cloudy amber color. Covered with a full 2 finger head. The head dropped quickly to 1 finger and left nice spider web lacing.

S: Mild sweet with caramel. Bready malt smells.

T: Sweet flavor with a slight corn taste to it.

M: Too carbonated. Very tingly.

O: I think that this would be easily accepted by someone that is used to American Adjunct Lagers. The taste profile is similar enough to be approachable. That is kind of he nicest thing I can say. It felt overly carbonated. The taste was similar to an AAL. I bought it because I liked the name.

On tap at an airport bar in BWI
Served into a pint glass

A: dark copper, off white head with decent retention and lacing

S: not a lot going on, piney hops and caramel and pale malt, aroma is decent but pretty muted

T: piney hops and citrus rind, good amount of bitterness, pale malts to balance it out

M/D: fuller bodied , carbonation on the heavier side but appropriate, drinkability average

O: really enjoyable pale ale

Poured from a 12ounce bottle into a pint glass.

Pours medium dark amber, no foam. Vacant nose, mild beer smell, but little else emerges. English pale taste, little burnt toffee, stripes of citrus in between. Mild. Bready. Modes carbonation. Run of the mill pale.
