Delirium Café is located just North of the Grand Place of the Rue des Bouchers, just next to a statue of a little girl squatting down for a pee. Welcome to Belgium. Its in a bit of a touristy spot, but off the main path enough to keep the hordes to a minimum. It was never crowded at all when I was in.
There is some seating available at street level, but I never took advantage of it, always opting instead for the more atmospheric cellar. Lots of beer-related stuff all over the walls and ceilings, with a nice collection of glasses in a display case on one wall and little glowing pink elephants everywhere you look. The cellar is dimly lit and usually smoky, with a bit of seating at the bar and lots of tables tucked away in the deep dark corners.
The beer list is a telephone book. Its truly incredible. They list their draft beers at the front, along with some of the recommendations and then they get to the real list. They claim to have about 2000. I didnt count. But I also never ordered anything that they didnt have. Impressive. Lots LOTS of stuff from all over Belgium and a fair selection of Dutch beers as well.
Service is a bit slow and inattentive. But the regulars seemed well taken care of.
If youre in Brussels, youve got to visit the place, at least for the spectacle. I wouldnt do my regular drinking here a bit too pricy and unwelcoming for that. But its a good place to find that rare Belgian treat youve been scouring the taverns for.
