Despite a vigorous pour, this beer never shows much of a head or lace. Where did the carbonation go? Regardless, with the yeast dumped in this weizen attains a wonderful glowing haze somewhere between bananas, wheat, and a shade of orange. If it wasn't for the tepid action this beer would be quite nice to look at.

Smell lacks any of the bananas and almost no cloves, but makes up with healthy amounts of vanilla, creamy malt, and sharp wheat. Occasional feeling of oranges, but that may just be ghosts of the flavor invading my nose.

Like the smell, this hefe lacks any of the classic phenols, but is again strong with malt but almost at the expense of any wheat sense. I mean, it is a weizen, is it not? Fruity licks of tangerines and light lemons with little acidity wash over toward one of the hoppiest finishes I've ever encountered in a hefe-weizen. Quite grassy with a lingering sense of dried herbs and Hersbrucker dryness.

A decent example of the style, it succeeds with its vanilla-malt-citrus profile instead of the classic banana-clove-wheat character. Drinkable enough, though less hops on the finish would make it even better. Lastly, the mouthfeel is pretty thin and missing any typical hefe-weizen sense of carbonation. Fresh from the tap I bet this is a better beer.

poured a cloudy light peach color with puffy white head. Smell is very pleasant, being a nice mixture of spices, cloves, and bananas. Smell follows through on the taste, with a very pleasant spiciness and bananas showing themselves. Finish is light and citrusy (lemon) and very enjoyable. A good example of one of my favorite beers.

Tried this one on tap at the restaurant. Poured a cloudy light brown honey color. That desired tiny bubble head present, leaving nice lacing. Nose of soft bananas. Notes of mild spices, bananas, cloves. Soft, creamy and comfy mouthfeel. Nice long finish. Nothing amazing here, but this is a well crafted enjoyable and very drinkable wheat.

Just enjoyed a bottle or three last night. Much better in the bottle then at any location other than BBC.

My earlier review stands, the only difference would be the color. It seemed a shade or two darker from the bottle. Just like crusty cheese on the top of crab dip before it starts to brown. You know, when it is chunky and comes off in globs on a piece of bread. There were a lot of bubbles and carbonation at first that dissappeared. Lacing was hardly noticable. (The bottle claims some sort of bottle conditioning, but I didn't notice any yeast in the bottom. I'll have to ask the folks at DeGroen's next time I stop in.)

The bottle and six pack marketing is a little jazzier than DeGroen's past stoic offerings. The bright yellow definitely catches your eye as you peruse the various beer offerings in a fridge.

A nice smooth session beer for summer.

Pours with a one-finger head that goes quickly and leaves no lace. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Light cloudy amber color. Nose is yeasty. Starts with a wheat/yeast flavor and but finishes smooth and sweet. It is a good summer beer. $1.50 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, MA.

Tasted at DeGroen's on 6/6/06. This was a standout in a lineup of great beers.

Appearance: Stunning! Luminescent gold, hazy, murky. Bright white lasting head.

Smell: Yeast, clove, banana, wheat bread, floral hops, citrus.

Taste: Wheat malt and brioche, fruity (apple/citrus), spice, with a wonderful tang on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Creamy. Medium bodied. Creamy. Smooth. Creamy. Did i mention creamy?

Drinkability: I can't imagine anything more drinkable.

My final brew on this impromptu Baltimore pub crawl, although for as hot and humid as it was outside, it was not even so much a crawl...

This weizen presented before me with good effervesence and left a bubbly and almost rocky head. The aroma was sweet, yeasty and wheaty. A fabulous brew, and an almost perfect finale. One would be hard-pressed to find better, fresher and more traditional German-style brews than at Baltimore Brewing Company. This brew paired well with some of their signature fries.

Zum wohl!

12oz bottle from a beer exchange with a friend at the holidays.

Poured into a pint glass, a 1/2 inch head formed, and retreated rather quickly to small layer of foam over the quite cloudy golden brew. Excellent sharp grainy nose, which carries over into the flavor as well, but seems to fall a bit short on intensity for what I would expect from a weizen. Mouthfeel and drinkability are fine, but overall the brew doesn't reach it's full potential, in my mind.

The beer pours a hazy golden color with a thick frothy white head. The aroma is sweet with the scent of fruity hefe yeast and wheat malts. It takes on a banana like smell. The taste is decent, although I've had much better Hefe's. It has the traditional banana flavor with the zing of wheat malts and yeast. It is unfiltered and flavorful. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a medium bodied beer with good carbonation. It is a fine drinking wheat ale. Another winner from Baltimore, MD.

A bit on the orangy side for a hefe-weizen, but that's OK, One of my favorite hefes, Schneider, is that color, too. Thick white head that dissipates rather quickly. Has all the stereotypical aromas of a hefe, yeasty, clove, a touch of banana. Solid wheat taste with a slightly tangy, tart finish. Not a lot of banana or clove in the taste. A bit yeasty. I swirled the bottle pretty good, yet some yeast was still plated on the bottom. Pretty good hefe-weizen. Definately drinkable.

A nice German Style Hefe made in America by the Baltimore Brewing Company.

Pours a nice golden hue with a nice fluffy white head that sticks around and laces well.. Smell is mild with just a hint of the traditional banana and clove spiceness. The taste is nice with a bit of sourness complimenting the banana and gum flavours. The mouthfeel is nice and smooth. This is one easy drinking beer wonderful for a session brew.. This is one of the better American made hefe's I have tried, just a notch below the Penn offering. I would buy this beer again no problem

Appearance: Cloudy golden orange sunrise tone with a gleaming white fluffy white head leaving speckled lace behind in a varying amount of different sized patches. Aroma: Authentic Bavarian style somebody knows how to brew an authentic hefe, very nice banana and clove with a citrusy mild zest and aromatic German hops. Taste: Yeast characteristics of banana, clove, and bubblegum are at the forefront finishes sweet with the malted wheat and bittering hops spiraling together in the finish, absolutely almost dead on comparable to most german hefes, great brew. Mouthfeel: Fluffy not as spritzy as a Franzy, but still enough carbonation to do the trick for me medium bodied. Drinkability: Just so tasty a must for American brewed micro hefes on the market one of the better ones out there hell even is comparable to Penn Weizen which is a huge complement because I love that beer dearly.

Sampled on tap at Redbones.

This weizen poured a cloudy, gold-brown color with white foam that settled but clung to the glass a bit. The smell was a pleasant banana/clove aroma with some wheat and yeast. The taste was banana and cloves up front, with some wheat, and a slightly tangy and bitter hop presence. There was also a bit of citrus and a hint of spice. The mouthfeel was smooth and dry with some fruity wheat in the body. The body was medium with good carbonation. There was a slight tanginess. The finish was dry. This was a nice hefeweizen.

Served in the 12 oz. bottle. The color is golden, with a bit of white head. The smell is wheat and cloves. The taste is very strong wheat and yeast, with a good banana/clove backing to it, though it has quite a bitter aftertaste Mouthfeel is good for a hefe. Drinkability-wise, probably have a couple more.

Easily the best of the Baltimore beers that I've had. Though probably not amogst the best hefeweizens out there, it's still a solid beer, and one that I just might have again.

Poured a nice hazy deep gold with off white head that went away after a little bit...
Aroma was a typical clove and banana (more banana than clove)...
Taste was a typical weizen...it was a bit mellow but i thought that was good...again same banana clove flavor...
finished with a nice clean taste and mouthfeel...
I could drink a few of these...if I wanted a mellow weizen but usually its not what I am looking for...
overall good...better than average

A nice looking beer, cloudy and yeasty. Very much holds true to typical Hefe's, as you can smell the clove and bananna like flavors wafting out of the glass. I really enjoyed this beer, and feel it is one of the better Hefe brewed in the US. A nice crisp beer, it is well balanced with clove and bubblegum like flavors as well. This is an ideal beer for the summer, refreshing and well made.

This is a nice representation of the style! It pours a cloudy amber. A thin fading white head sits on top. The lace gathers momentarily then slides down giving the head a rimmed edge. A nice clovey, yeasty, wheaty, hoppy aroma dissipates to quickly. The body is a bit more substantial than most wefe-weizens, but there's no problem IMHO. Flavors of lemon, clove, coriander, orange zest, faint caramel and a hint of banana, quite separate at first, mingle and blend. Good summer refresher!

This is by far the most tart weizen I have ever had, pours a real nice gold/orange color with big chunks and bits that settle after a few minute, aroma is lemony tart. The taste is very tart no need for a lemon here there is a nice malted wheat taste in the finish.Although very tart I really liked this beer definently something different.

Hazy golden hue with a thin, well retaining head. Bananas and cloves noticeable on the nose. Yeasty, medium bodied, cloves and bananas also noted in the body. Bitter throughout, some bubble gum flavors resting on the palate. Has a crisp, definitive finish, leaning heavy towards the yeasty notes, all in all average for the style.
