A 330ml can with a BB of May 2012, so it's just out of date. Picked up cheap at a supermarket (individual can being sold off). The ingredients include lactose, so it's a milk stout, and the ABV is surprisingly low at 3%.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. Pitch black, though revealed as a deep ruby hue when held to the light. Yields a decent head of creamy light brown foam that loiters for a few minutes before collapsing to a surface layer. Aroma of sweet, dark malt with notes of molasses, dried fruit, faint burnt grain and a mildly acidic lactic twang.

Tastes of sweet roasted malt with a dry finish. Notes of molasses, dried fruit, mild roasted grain, subtle stewed hops and a lactic sweetness. Dry upon swallowing, with a flavour that doesn't linger. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, with tingly carbonation. Good body. A faint aftertaste of sweet dark malt.

Quite nice - certainly a decent flavour for it's strength. Punches above its weight. Sweet and somewhat fruity, but goes down nicely. The body is especially good - runs over the tongue like velvet. I might pick up some more if it's on offer. Worth sampling.

(275 ml bottle.) Very dark/black, good tan head. Aroma is malts and coffee, flavour is sweet and malty with coffee and chocolate notes, hardly any bitterness. This beer proves that a low ABV beer can be flavourful, but it's just too sweet to be a favourite of mine.

1960’s vintage - cannot believe this held up so well. Dark brown appearance with no head. Malt, molasses, faint coffee, leather, some oxidation due to age. Moderate to light body, very little carbonation.

Jet black with fizzy tan head. Couldn't smell a great deal. Taste is of coffee, fag ash and lactose. Medium mouthfeel. Thick for abv. This would be good with cigarettes but I no longer smoke. My go-to for a unit controlled beer week.

Canned and poured into a barrel handled half pint pot glass
Pours a jet black body with decent enough tan head
Coffee & toffee aroma
That in the flavour with some charcoal
Great body for the abv

Unassuming appearance and aroma.

Very sweet milky taste - hints of chocolate and coffee. Sufficiently hoppy for a stout.

Overall a decent pint, very drinkable.

Normal stout appearance, black with a short, creamy beige head. Aroma is almost nonexistent, but taste is normal stout bitterness. elements of coffee and chocolate, an overall decent stout.

I know I've had English Mackeson's, but most recently I had one brewed in the Caribbean (St. Kitts, I think). It was not very cold and so the taste shone through.

It was stout-like in appearance (really dark) and the head seemed substantial enough. The taste (at a warm temp) was very sweet and syrupy. There was sufficient hops to know that this was Mackeson.

The whole experience was fun and I think the Caribbean version is very close to the real thing.

330ml Can from BeersOfEurope website (£1.49):
Black with a beige 0.5cm brown head on top that holds quite well.

Sweet and milky with some lactose and a few lighter than expected malts coming through with a touch of chocolate an a little sugar towards the end but the balance is good throughout.

Sweet with lots of milky lactose and sweet roasted malts with a mix of chocolate and very light coffee plus a touch of caramel towards the finish.

Mostly smooth but slightly chewy right at the end. The beer has a medium to full body which is quite impressive given the abv. of this one and as I mentioned it is pretty sweet as well.

An interesting beer and packed a fair amount of flavour considering the below average alcohol content. The taste is pretty nice although perhaps just a little bit too sweet in places but the fact that it's not overly strong makes it a very easy one to drink.
