As far as appearances go, this is one mean beer. Kick ass black rock and roll lable with XXX on it. Pours thick syrupy black...like some primoridal goo from hell. Poured aggressively, a thick cappucino like head first expanded to four fingers and then contracted to one all in the span of a minute. Lace sticks to the glass like glue. I'm telling you...this one looks evil. Bring it on!
Smells like malted milk balls, chocolate ice-cream, and the marshmallows from Count Chocula cereal. Behind all of that chocolatey-ness there is a hint of salty soy sauce, but it's subtle.
The taste is suprisingly different from what I expected from the scent! First impression is definitely cold coffee with a little chocolate, but then a meaty flavor pulls through along with a bitter saltiness. Ok, now smokey tasting. Aftertaste is a bit like steak. Doesn't taste as much like rich chocolate as the nose suggests, but very tasty notheless! There is so much going on here that I can't even really peg all the flavors down!
As for mouthfeel, a nice carbination feeling at first is followed by a dry, chalky, earthy finish. Very pleasant and highly drinkable!
Visually impressive, sweet and malty at first...then meaty and satly and dry, this beer is very complex and I love it. I will have to have another one of these big black bastards again soon to really experience all that is happining in this exceptional beer. An excellent brew!

Pours a deep dark brown with a finger of beige head that retains quite nicely and leaves a good amount of lace behind on the glass. The nose is mildly roasty. The roast in the flavor profile is very mild and is almost completely overwhelmed by the sugary sweetness that lasts into the finish.
I know that milk stouts are supposed to be sweet but the best of this style balance the sweetness with some nice roasted malt flavor. This offering falls too far into the sweet category for my liking.
