dark. darker than guinness. no light shows through when held up to a 100W bulb. orange at the edges. low carbonation and light head. perfectly fine.
smells like roast toffee, and milk sugar.
flavor is really roasty, but sweet at the same time. a good illustration of lactose sweetness compared to maltose usually found in beers. reminds me of japanese "milky" candies.
mouthfeel is sufficient and smooth. residual bitterness and lactose sweetness battle it out towards the end. very nice. I would like to have a little more... silkiness, maybe? on the other hand, being somewhat lower viscosity means it's that much easier to drink a little more...
very drinkable. it's a little on the sweet side, but that's how it's supposed to be! for the style I can't think of any concrete way to improve it. it's smoother than guinness and has a better roasty flavor in my opinion.
not quite as much depth as beamish. reminds me of wexford cream ale... must be the lactose.

Pours a deep dark brown with a finger of beige head that retains quite nicely and leaves a good amount of lace behind on the glass. The nose is mildly roasty. The roast in the flavor profile is very mild and is almost completely overwhelmed by the sugary sweetness that lasts into the finish.
I know that milk stouts are supposed to be sweet but the best of this style balance the sweetness with some nice roasted malt flavor. This offering falls too far into the sweet category for my liking.
