A 500ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2014, so it's a bit out of date. Hopefully still in good nick. Acquired a while back from a B&M store.

A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A deep, hazy amber hue with fine sediment and good carbonation. Forms a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a while before settling as a patchy surface layer.

S: Aroma of grainy malt with hints of grass/hay, mild citrus, ale yeast and subtle earthiness. Decent but lacking in hop character.

T: Tastes of grainy malt with subdued aromatic hops and a dry, bitter finish. Notes of grass/hay, leafiness, mild citrus, subtle husky grain, faint barley sugar, ale yeast, earthiness and stewed hops. Well-attenuated, followed by a restrained hoppy bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and good body. Slightly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of bitter grassy hops, grainy malt and earthy yeast.

O: A tasty brew with a balanced character. Looks good, while the aroma and flavour are a happy mix of grainy malt, grassy hops and yeast notes. The aroma could be more forthright. Nice body. Perhaps suffering from a degree of fading, but still goes down easily. Worth sampling if you have the chance.

Pours a golden body with decent enough white head that pretty much sticks
Good hoppy aroma and flavour with a peppery bitter finish

A - amber colour like a lager with good carbonation which shot out if the bottle when opening! Medium head that dissipates to a small head and stays throughout leaving some lacing

S - Sweet malt, some fresh hop notes and some grassy notes

T - malt, light hops to begin with that then build to a fresh pine and grassy taste giving bitterness. Good English style IPA.

M - well carbonated, finishes slightly dry and bitter

One of my Favourite beers from this Brewery...

An easy drinking adaptation of the English IPA style
This was served slighlt chilledinto a handled Pint glass.

A - Straw to pale gold in colour with small tight head. Fair head retention and good carbonation.

S - Hops dominate, with citrusy spicey notes most notable. There is some malt in the background, the low malt profile isn't a surpise for a beer of this gravity.

T - Good fresh hop taste similar to the smell Citrusy/piney hops with a slight spiceyness. A hint of malt and a crisp slightly bitter finish.

M - Nice medium body with good carbonation, making this an ideal companion to spicey or greasy food.

D- Well balanced mid gravity English style India Pale Ale. A good session ale for warmer days. Also good for an English BBQ.
I like this ale with Indian food and fish and chips. It is also a good alternative to a Pilsner when enjoying a pizza.

I would reccomend this beer as a good food match and to those looking for an IPA suitable for a session beer.

A decent beer but in such a strong field of English IPAs this was a little disappointing. This tasted a little off (just a fraction) but it was brought over fresh from England and was in date still.

Hops were mild but definately present, malt balance was very nice. Slight citrusy tones but very subtle.

I would drink this again close to the brewery to see if it was better but I would probably not buy again other than that. Not bad but its in such a strong field there are so many slightly more appealing to me personally.

Another interesting beer being sold by Sainsburys (UK).

Appearance: Crystal clear and golden in colour, with a big white foamy, however, this show poor retention. Quite lightly carbonated.

Aroma: Big grassy hops in the aroma, citrus, and grapefruit.

Taste: Bitter up front from the hops, with a subtly sweet malt base. Quite fruity, possibly grapefruit, and a citric lemon. The base malts are bready, and creamy.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, and lively, with a clingy bitter aftertaste.

Drinkability: This is definitely the first beer I have had from the Isle of Man, and it is a decent offering. Not as bitter and hoppy as most IPAs, the most here are a bit more prominent than I was expecting. Would probably drink this again.

So, an India Pale Ale from The Isle of Man!

Borwn 500ml bottle, best by 28 Nov 09, drank 23 Jul 09. Poured into a vase shaped pint glass, branded as 'Old Speckled Hen'. This glass is rapidly becoming my favourite tasting glass for UK based beers, shows off the colour and head very well each time I use it.

Pale amber/light orange body, good firm white head, looks like a lager/pilsner (almost), but without the brightness, although to be fair it is a dull day today!

As you'd expect from an IPA the aroma was hoppy, but not much else.

Good hop feel to the taste, more hops in the mouth than in the nose. Fairly well balanced, the malted barley evens out the hops nicely although it has a more of a hoppy smack on the palate than of malts. Dry aftertaste, the hops see to that, they also impart a lot of bitterness as the mouth drys after each gulp.

Enjoyed it, a pleasant beer to review, not sure I'd buy a case though, unless they were on special offer.

Bought this 500ml bottle at Sainsbury's on a run across the border and drank it back in Dublin.

Pours a straw yellow with a hint of orange. A large white 2-finger head is followed by plenty of carbonation.

Smells piney and hoppy, with some citrus & floral notes too a bit.

Bitter hops with a bite of piney notes are what come through in each sip. Tastes dry, fresh and nice and a bit biscuity too.

The hops and pine notes are very tangy and bubbly, but could be a bit more balanced ad mellowed out.

I'd like to try it on cask or on tap if available and will definitely try it again, but will probably look to other differet beers first of this type if given the opportunity.

500 ml bottle, bought at ICA Middelthon, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Golden colour, big white head. Fairly strong aroma of hops, first flowery, then more citrussy and lightly spicy. The flavour is distinctly hoppy throughout, with grapefruity notes, and has just enough malts to balance it. Pleasant (if somewhat sharp) bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. I don't know which variety(ies) of hops they have used here - possibly Progress? A nice and refreshing ale this one - will buy again.

Bottle. Bought from Finland.

Light amber colour. Little head.

Very nice IPA. Aroma fresh and fruity.

Taste nicely hoppy and fruity.

And very funny and strange translations in Finnish on a back label... Looks like a website translation kind of result.

Appearance: pale yellowy-gold, good clarity, frothy/bubbly off-white foam

Aroma: unripe pears, passion fruit, blossom honey, grainy malt; very delicate

Flavor: lagery malt profile with a gentle but crisp hop bitterness; somewhat lemony in character; finishes dry with a clean aftertaste and lingering bitterness

Mouthfeel: light body, pert carbonation, crisp

Other comments: This is a scrumptious alternative to lager. One bone to pick though: the bottle wasn't filled all the way! Jipped!

Purchased at the Sainsbury's supermarket, coming in a 500ml brown glass bottle; 28/11/08, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass. The front label has an interesting sentence summarising the brewing concept for this brewery: "pure brewed in the Isle of Man in accordance with our Brewing Purity Law since 1874"... also at the bottom of the label it specifies "Premium Celtic Ale". It would've been much more interesting if one could find a bit more info. on these two special terms "Brewing Purity Law" and "Celtic Ale", but no, this is as far as the brewery is willing to mould one's imagination... Whatever it means, here goes the taste.

A: pours a dark yellow straw to light golden hue, with mild, natural carbonation and a pillowy white foamy head that manages to last.
S: extremely juicy in the citric, lightly lychee-ish, and elder-flowery floral hoppiness, decorated with a touch of honey, hays, and a rather focused flow of sweet malts... a good swirl brings out a clean touch of sourness mixed of nectar and citrus juice, as well as lightly biscuity maltiness. Overall very pleasant!
T: a spritzy wave of bitter-sweet hops with plenty of grapefruity, sweet-meadow floral, and lychee-skin flavours dominates from the start, resting on a solid but light-flavoured base of biscuity (lightly stinky-sweet oat-biscuits) malts... the bitter and dryish palate outlasts all other flavours, leaving a chewy, tangy and tannic aftertaste with a remote touch of sweet pale malt.
M&D: the mouthfeel is slightly too spritzy for me, as a softer palate might have highlighted the refreshing and lively hoppy flavour even better; apart from this, this semi-crisp, hoppy and bitter pale ale is extremely delicious, refreshing and quaffable, "punching above its weight" (4.5%abv.) as a light-bodied IPA! My last pint of this ale on cask was consumed three years ago so I can't remember much, but from the notes these two versions are equally nice and worth trying~~

500ml bottle bought from The Vintage, Antrim...

Poured a light golden copper colour... Slightly of white head poured thick, foamy and meringue like then faded slowly to light layer... barely any carbonation... lots of sticky lacing...

Aroma - Nice strong spicy fruitiness (pears, apples, some light pineapples), some faint piney hints, lots of biscuity malts, grassy notes, spicy floral hop bitterness, light honey sweetness, peppery some faint corn traces...

Taste - Very faint fruitiness (light lemons, pears and apples), strong peppery hop bitterness, salty notes, no real sweetness, floral, herbal, definite biscuity malts, grassy...

Feel - Pretty sharp and dry... Light body... Very refreshing and drinkable..

Overall - An OK IPA - much better on cask than in the bottle... Probably worth a try though...
