A rich, chocolaty English Porter with a clean finish. We use the finest floor-malted Maris Otter malts from England, the same malts used for the best single-malt scotch. A portion of malted rye gives a spicy, slightly dry finish.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color porter with a dark foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of spicy rye notes with light roasted malt and some black chocolate notes. Taste is also dominated by spicy rye notes with some dry roasted m alt notes with light black chocolate notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Well brewed with rye contributing some interesting complexity.

Very dark brown pour, borderline black. Head provided a great contrast as its light brown head sat atop.

Somewhat roasted aroma, rye spiciness but not overpowering.

Flavors follow the nose. Some roasted malt with a touch of spice. Burnt toffee. Some cocao, but I think more rye would do this beer well. Or more roast. Just seems indecisive as to what it is. Hops are either missing or dominated.

Still, a nice beer. Could be a great autumn grilling out football beer.

A:Pours a darker brown color with a tan head that has not so great lacing hanging around

S:Slight roasted malts come thru intially with some spicy notes as well. Nothing to great or exciting

T:Pretty much the same as the nose with roasty and spicey notes coming thru with
nothing really to brag about

M:Lighter mouthfeel on this with a watery type body, raosted malt notes are left hanging
around on the palate.

D:Overall this was easy to drink but lacking in the flavor and excitement department,
Think I would pass on this if there was a next time to try it

A buddy brought a variety pack back from a trip to Nashville. The beer pours a nice color which was slightly less dark than Guinness, with a tan head. The rye was indeed sly - the beer wasn't as astringent as I had anticipated. While not as bitter as I would expect from a porter, I found it quite drinkable, and wouldn't hesitate to purchase it if I found it in my part of the country.

Poured from 12oz bottle. Thanks to SuperNova777 for sharing. Josh you have made me happy once again...now lets get this band together!

A- Pours a deep dark brown..borderline black color. One finger tan head shows poor retention. Light spots of lacing on the sides of the glass.

S- Lots of roasted malts in the front of the glass. Some light vanilla and bitter chocolate notes toward the middle. Light spicy rye and hops in the ending. Simple yet effective.

T- Roasted malts in the front have a little something off about them. Not a terrible off flavor but there was something there. Middle has some light chocolate notes with some more roasted malts. Ending is interesting as the rye is there but comes in to just fade away to a light smokey (not roasted) flavor. The rye kicks it back into high gear with a warming alcohol before finishing up.

M- Light mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. A little watery in the mouth at times. Roasted malts left on the palate. Aftertaste is rye and roasted malts with a hint of alcohol. Light drying on the palate from the alcohol. Flavors were a little muted and muddled I thought. A little bit of a off flavor keeps this beer from tasting clean.

D- This beer drinks easy and smooth for the most part. The watery at times mouthfeel makes this a good drinkability beer meaning you can have a ton of this. ABV is low so drinking a lot wouldn't be a problem as well. Overall a above average beer but not by much.

Thanks to abuliarose for sharing this with me.

Poured into a Foothills signature glass. A big, foamy, off-white head forms at first, but quickly dies, leaving behind a thin film on top of a dark brown, almost black body. Light lacing.

Smokey and roasty malts on the nose, followed by a pinch of rye and some bittersweet chocolate. A burnt caramel aroma lingers as well.

Bittersweet chocolate malts, other roasted dark malts and a nice addition of rye make up the majority of the flavor. The rye definitely adds a welcomed dimension to this beer, but beyond that there isn't too much else going on. A fairly normal porter profile.

The body is smooth with small, tingly, carbonation. Slightly on the watery side, yet maintains a touch of creaminess.

Drinkability is probably the best thing about this stout. It goes down quite easily and the ABV makes it sessionable. With rye you stay somewhat intrigued, which is good.

Overall, a decent beer from Yazoo. Nothing overly exciting, but still a fairly drinkable porter. Easy to enjoy a pint or two.

Thanks JQV for this one.

A: Pours a nice dark black, nice tan head with pretty good retention. A bit of spotty lace.

S: Very nice roasted malts, earthy chocolates, and coffee.

T: Nice and deep tasting. The malts are aggressively rosted. The chocolate is bold and dark. Coffee notes are there with some twangy dark fruit. Touches of caramel and nuts with a dash of the spicy rye.

M: On the lighter side of medium, medium carbonation, could be a bit more lively.

D: Pretty good. Not the best of the Yazoo brews I have had (SUE rocks!) but it is tasty no doubt.

A - pours a deep, dark black with a nice white head to it

S - smells of some darker fruits with undertones of chocolate malt. Coffee / burnt malt are the most dominant scent on the nose, which is complemented nicely by some spicy rye. The label on the bottle nails it.

T - taste follows the nose. Starts off with sweet chocolate malt that is overtaken by a lot of sweet, dark fruits. Then, the spiciness reveals itself adding a spicy tinge to the palate. The finish is coffee and dark fruits. I was surprised to see how prominent the dark fruits were; I was hoping for a little more rye, but it was delicious nonetheless.

M - nice and creamy, but a thin body

D - This is a really good, easy drinking, flavorful porter. The dark fruits and rye add a nice change of pace for the style, helping this stand out from others in this class. Thanks to beerindex for this one!

Bottled in March of this year.

Pours a dark brown body with a small light tan head that has low retention. Lacing is on the sparse side.

Aroma is like (black) peppery chocolate. Somewhat simple but enjoable.

Flavor is good - chocolate comes through with a mild rye complexity on the backbone. Finish is too short and somewhat...empty.

Mouthfeel is decent for a porter, carbonation might be a little high.

Overall I enjoy the Sly Rye Porter and would not hesitate to pick it up again, but it isn't incredible. I've had a couple other Rye porters that I prefer, but they are almost impossible for me to get.
