Thanks goes out to JohnQVegas for this one.
Bottled On: 4th Week of Mar
Pours a nice cloudy pale yellow color, nice carbonation, nice one-finger fizzy white head, which leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, with some nice yeast notes, and some spice. The taste is malty, yeasty, slightly dry, and nice spice note. Medium body. Drinkable, a nice thirst quencher.

A: Pours lighter side of copper colored, somewhat hazy. Half finger white head, quickly reducing to barely a cap.
S: Yeasty bananas and cloves. Pepper, candi sugar.
T: Belgian yeast characteristics entirely dominate. Bananas and cloves again, black pepper. Lemon rind, almost tart. The rye grain bill is mostly apparent in the finish.
M: Lighter side of medium, high carbonation.
O: Overall a good Saison, but I was looking for something a little more out of the ordinary in using rye grain. Still, a good beer!

Pours a nice clear amber with an average fluffy white head. Crisp, malty aroma has fruity and rye tones and a yeasty hint. Malty aroma has a decided rye component plus some sweet fruity tone and just a hint of honey. Texture is fairly smooth with a strong fizz. Overall, not too shabby.

A bit of a style-bender here, and it really didn't come together for me. A bit of rye spicyness was present, but the yeast phenolics were off - I got a hint of bandaid and plastic at the finish, enough to be slightly off-putting. Absent this, the beer would have been solid.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden color with a decent head that leaves some splotches of foam here and there
Smell: Rye bread and overripe stone fruit, with hints of bubblegum and green apple
Taste: Starts out with sweet fruit and spicy rye flavors that build in a tart direction, by mid-palate, when the bubblegum also makes an appearance; after the swallow, the sweet flavors dominate, but there is plenty of spicy phenolic complexity underneath; finishes somewhat grainy
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Drinkability: A very interesting beer and the spicy rye does a nice job of offsetting the sweeter fruity character

First of all I've had my share of the Saison style. I've just been sleeping of the offering of my local brewery.
A: Not typical at all. This one is a light amber, copper-ish tent. Wasn't expecting this at all. I got a good 3 fingers of head on the pour.
S: Spices and a subtle yeast aroma.
T: I should of let this chill a little longer. It's ok really. Almost had a slight Tripel taste. The spice is there, but it's just not like your traditional Saison.
M: Smooth, hardly any mouthfeel at all on this one.
Overall: I was a little let down actually. Not a go to Yazoo brew, but I still have much love for the hometown hero's.

12oz bottle courtesy of ckeegan04 poured into a tulip.
Pours a slightly hazy deep golden with tons of bubbles rushing to the top to feed a big fluffy white head that shows very good retention and laving. A good looking beard.
The aroma is an interesting mix of Belgian yeast sweetness with some bubblegum but with lots of citrus as well. Maybe the faintest hint of funk and definitely some rye spiciness as it warms.
The taste is a little more tart than the aroma with some tart lemons up front before the light fruit sweetness comes in. The Belgian yeast gives way to a dry finish with hints of spices and a bit more of the lemon zest.
The mouthfeel is fairly light with lots of carbonation.
This is my first Yazoo beer and it was certainly an original take on the style. The aroma was a little on the sweet side but then the taste brought the tartness and funk a bit more. Tasty.

JohnQVegas sent this one.
A: Pours a nice gold that is a touch hazy. Nice tall foamy white head, good retention and some real nice lace.
S: Aromas of yeast citrus, honey, banana, and spice.
T: Much much like the aroma. Yeasty and spicy for sure. Very mild banana notes with a crisp citrus bite. There is a doughy quality to this one and a mild hop character to round things out.
M: On the lighter side of medium, smooth and tasty.
D: Good one that will be nice to sit down at the pool with.

Bought at Stogie's in cool springs. Poured a star and amber color with a light white head. The aroma is what one would expect from a lighter rye beer. I say lighter when comparing to rye squared, sorry. Again since I recently quit smoking my tatebuds are still kind of shot, but it's slightly sweet tasting with a little but of a bitter aftertaste. Let me review again in a few weeks for a more specific review.

Pours a brilliant coppery-orange with a quickly disappearing, half-finger white head. Ring and lace are minimal and last about halfway.
Nose is fruity, with apricot and peach pie flavors- a sort of doughy maltiness and florally hops.
The palate is interesting, with the rye adding a nice bit of spicy complexity to the typical siason style. It opens with a broad carbonation and a dry maltiness- flavors of apricot skin usher in the hoppy bitter grapefruity character. It finishes dry and tart.
Overall, wonderful sessionable brew. The tartness and dryness on the palate definitely coincides with my love for white wine- with the bright flavors and piercing acidity keeping my palate wide awake. The carbonation of the beer adds beautifully to that as well.

Bit thanks to JR (Photekut) for sending this as a bonus brew. Served in my Surly pint glass. The brew was bottled late December '08.
A - Voluminous 3+ fingers of light blonde foam that dissipates quickly and leaves a thick cap. Only a few specks of lacing on the sides of the glass. Hazy apricot/peach color with lots of bubbles visible.
S - Smell is quite nice - a mix of spicy rye malt, tangy Belgian yeast, pepper and clove, a bit of orange zest, and maybe a touch of lighter fruits like pear and melon.
T - Taste is disappointing - it's some mild fruits, pepper, and a funny yeasty twang. Not bad, but not all that interesting either. There's a tiny touch of sourness in the aftertaste that is slightly redeeming.
M - Lighter body, soft, light carbonation tingle. Pretty refreshing and style appropriate.
D - If it was a little tastier it'd make a solid session saison. Unfortunately there are a bunch of better options out there like the NG Imperial Saison, or any of the special GI ones.

poured from 12oz bottle to tulip.
burnt orange color with a fairly withstanding bone white head. tart aroma of sweet almost sour, a bit of green apple. initial taste of sour fruit accompanied by a slight clove like phenol. very snappy across the tongue, nice carbonation. finishes sweet and clean.
overall a nice example of the style, i prefer the saison to be a bit more sweet and a little less sour. not sure what rye contributes to this flavor profile.

Tasted On: 07-07-2011
Freshness: Bottled the 4th week of March, 2011
Packaging: 12 oz. brown bottle
Purchased: 4-pack from Frugal MacDoogal, Nashville
This clear beer is a bright, light copper color with a creamy head of 2 fingers. Lacing is fair and there are lots of bubbles in the glass.
Nice, strong Belgian yeast aromas of grass and hay, with a sweet bready compliment. Taste is spicy and dry, from the hops and rye malts. Has a nice tartness and warming as well.
A highly carbonated beer, with a light, dry body. Finishes with spiciness and bitterness.
Not my favorite from Yazoo, but a solid spring seasonal I'll look for next year.
