I received this as an extra from AlexFields, thanks for the opportunity. I had never heard of this beer, but there appears to be a bit of hype behind it. It comes out almost completely black with a finger of tanned heading. Inviting smoke is the first thing I notice, with some dark berry smells coming through. It is the essence of a campfire, but with some other playful things going on. Beef Jerky was the first thing I thought of upong tasting, but there is a good dose of dark fruit flavor, such as date and plum. The mouthfeel is relatively thick and heavy, and the drinkability is immaculate (assuming you are in to smoky beers). I have never had snything from Yazoo, but if this is any indication, they are one hell of a brewery. It reminds me of the first time I tried Alaskan Smoked Porter. A big thanks to AlexFields for throwing in a smoked beer on our trade.

Bottled on 3-14-2014. On 6-12-14 poured a dark, opaque brown with a 4 inch khaki head that gradually diminishes leaving prominent, thick lacing.
The aroma was smokey malt, similar to smoked beef or beef jerky.
Taste was smokey malt with plum and chocolate followed by moderate clean hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel was creamy, moderate to heavy body, moderate carbonation and mild ethanol warming.
This beer strikes a perfect balance between a malt-forward porter, prominent but not overwhelming smokiness and a clean hop finish. I would serve this at 55F with grilled or smoked beef or duck or a rich chocolate desert. Would also be great on a cool night by the fire.
