thanks to MSquared2 for the hookup on this one. enjoyed from a spiegelau glass. bottled may 14th, 2012
a - beer poured jet black with generous off white, almost yellowish head that dissolved shortly after the pour but left nice lacing on the glass.
s - nice roasted chocolate malts with good amount of smoke. charred wood.
t - yowza, not yazoo...that's a tasty beer. again, big smoke notes and nice chocolate malt with big roast character. camp fire in your mouth, but i love it.
m - roasty and charred, but big so kind of feels borderline RIS.
o - overall, really nice beer. much better than i expected. great body brings it all together. super enjoyable. cheers.

Poured into a tulip glass from a 12 oz bottle.
Pours a very dark slightly viscous liquid with a nice light tan head. Head is pretty dense and stands at about half and inch. Almost capuccino-like.
Aroma starts off with some nice smoked malts. Malty body for sure. Nice notes of cherry wood and the remnants of a good campfire. Interesting. Some slight notes of coca as well as some nice bitter and roasted coffee notes.
Flavor starts off with that sharp burnt smoke note. This note is quickly supplanted by some nice dark fruit notes and some good bready sweetness. Sweet milk cocoa notes dominate and yet blend so well with some lingering smokey notes. There is some nice roast and the finish is nice and bitter with some dark cocoa notes. Mouthfeel is nice and silky and smooth.
Pretty good porter. Im not the biggest fan of smoked brews but this is very nice.

Bottle poured into Tulip Shaped Glass
Appearance: Dark chocolate black with a thick creamy brownish head.
Smell: dark roasted malts with a nice blend of smokiness a hint of caramel and chocolate, but the smokiness smell is the most dominating.
Taste: sweet roasted malt, hint of vanilla and chocolate, with a smokiness blend to it, and a hint of alcohol.
Mouthfeel: medium to heavy bodied with slight carbonation and a dry smoky finish.
Overall: This is my favorite beer from Yazoo Brewing Co. The best American Porter I've ever had, hands down. It is well balanced with the sweetness and the smokiness and I can barley taste the alcohol, but I can tell that there is an alcohol presence in it. This beer would be perfect for a grill cook out and I would definitely buy this again.

Bottled May 2012
It's dark brown on black with a hourglass shaped tan silkscreen. Smells of smoke, prunes, cocoa, hersheys syrup, a little dates as well as vanilla. Flavor is smoke, leather, sweet dark malts, some dried dates and a touch of prune juice. Full bodied with a silky feel and a dry finish. Good beer, really good beer.
