A – Nice red amber body with an off-white head. Average retention and ok lace.

S – Solid malt backbone and caramel lead a sweet nose. Lace of orange zest. Very little hop aroma.

T – A nice contrast between sweet malt and dark honey on one side, and a bright, dry, woody bitterness on the other. Both sides play out powerfully, with the hops edging out in a semi-bitter finish.

M – Medium-full body. Nice smoothness.

O – The strength of the flavors has this beer come off more like a DIPA than an IPA. A solid beer regardless.

Catching up on some shows on Hulu and trying to clear out some IPAs from my beer fridge...
This was another extra from grownfool. Served in my Yazoo tulip pint glass.

so other than #44 that I drank earlier, I haven't had a Hop Project since around #30... This one reminds me of those from the late 20s.

The beer pours a nice dark orangey color. Nearly white head of nearly 3 fingers. Great retention and good lacing.

Smells a little dank and earthy... The malts are lighter than I expected, but decently integrated into the overall profile. The malts have some bready and biscuit notes-- not sweet, more dry, especially the way it combined with the dank earthiness. The hops are subtle-- grapefruit and pine mainly, although I think the dank earth might be from some el dorado hops.
The finish is dry and crisp and reminds me of a British pale ale... Perhaps the yeast?

The body is medium and well carbonated. Decent amount of bitterness hits on the finish, but presents with a slightly soapy note like the 44 did as well.

Overall, this is certainly no west coast IPA, but it is nice enough to enjoy. The balance is good, and the flavor is solid.

Pours a clear copper color with thumb sized cream colored head that falls fast but leaves some lace down my pint glass.

Aroma is very west coast nice juicy citrus notes orange, grapefruit dominating with some pine in the rear. All the hops are floating on a caramel base.

Taste is good caramel base lightly sweet moving right into bitterness not quit as fruity in the taste more tobacco/pine in flavor with grapefruit rind like bitterness lingering on the tongue.

Mouthfeel is good solid medium with nice level of carbonation.

Drinkability is good an enjoyable IPA had a Hop Project on draft while in Nashville it was nice also not sure which version it was though. Wild they use different hops so your IPA is always changing.

Bottle, Wk 3/February, into Sam Adams sensory glass.

Pours clear, brilliant copper, with a persistent one-finger of creamy off-white head, and epic lacing. Really, the very definition of a great looking IPA. Another finger or two on the initial pour and this is a perfect 5.

Nose is piny, a bit grassy, light underlying citrus rind. Dank, as always.

Taste follows my impression of several earlier hop projects in a lot of ways. This one is a little more intensely pungent, as the rindy, piny, grassy character really latches on to the pungency and doesn't let go. A bit on the bitter side, this is (and really, always has been) an IPA that is really built around the earlier hop additions. I tend to prefer mine more late-boil focused and hopbursted, but that's just me. Still, there's a smoothness to this one that's undeniable - light, dry, bready malt underneath, with loads of dry, grassy, piny, even earthy hops layered on top. Nice beer.

Mouthfeel is well done - creamy, dry, long finish is sustained by a moderate, never-too-heavy bitterness.

Drinkability is quite good also. Bitterness never overwhelms, well-balanced. A bit on the pungent side, yes, but no one ever accused the Hop Project series of being a west-coast style IPA.

12oz bottled Feb 17, 2011. Enjoyed Feb 23, very fresh!!!

Pours slightly hazy copper/amber with a good foamy off-white head that leaves some nice lacing and holds a good cap.

Aroma is pine, orange and tangerine citrus, grapefruit, notes of grass and floral hops as well, caramel and bread tag along. Moderate to good strength.

Flavor is pine, resinous hops, citrus rind (grapefruit & orange), grass, fair caramel malt backbone, little to no sweetness, very nice bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, oily, medium, almost prickly carbonation.

Another nice Hop Project from Yazoo. Keep 'em coming!

Served on-tap in a pint glass at the Yazoo tap room. Clear amber body with a one-finger off white head. Good lacing.

Nice aroma. Pine resin, grassy, with some grapefruit. Not expecting it to be too sweet.

Good hoppy flavors up front featuring the pine and grapefruit notes. Some muted sweet malt in the background but this one has a strong hop flavor. Well done.

My first IPA from Yazoo. Hope they keep them coming.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint Glass. Golden copper in color with absolutely perfect clarity. There is a thick, foamy white head that produces crazy amounts of lacing. I like where this is going.

The beer itself is pretty good, I'd say better than your average IPA. Big citrus hops, orange and grapefruit with a bit of pine at the end. There's a slight sweetness that tickles your nose too, like a natural sugar or honey.

Taste is good, but just the slightest bit too bitter. Again it's very well hopped. The taste has more citrus zest than citrus itself, it's also piny and earthy, and a little woody. Malt presence detected, but overpowered by all the hops.

Light to medium mouthfeel. It's strong with a dry and bitter finish, again like noted in the taste, slightly a little too bitter. Overall it's pretty good, I'm glad I got the opportunity to try it. Who knows maybe I'll try to get a hold of future hop projects.

A good recommendation from Beardon's Beer Market.

Purchased in Laurel MS.
Pours a cloudy copper color with a white head that has average head retention.
Citrus hops jump out. There is some spicy hops as well.
Description on the bottle says they take Pale, Munich and Caramel malts and overwhelm with their hops. They do, because I don't get much on the malt side in the aroma, and get a little of it on the tongue that help nicely soften the hops and add some balance.
I liked it.

It poured a rich reddish amber with a decent off white head and smelled of oranges, pine and malty butterscotch. The mouth is medium bodied, nicely bitter and somewhat austere with notes of slightly unripe apricot, bitter pine and grapefruit pith, followed by a hint of roasty malt, while the finish is moderate, carried by the hoppy-bitterness and citrus flavors. My first Hop Project and I'm rather impressed. One of my favorite Yazoo brews so far.
