This beer/brewery introduced me to the craft craze a few years ago. I haven't been able to try Gerst again until now as Yazoo only distributes in the south. Overall, it's a very refreshing summer brew. Taste reminds me of Alaskan Amber, both of which are like a crisper/better version of Newcastle. I'll probably share the rest of these this summer on the lake. Who knows, it may introduce some friends to good craft beer.

Had on tap in a pint glass.

Pours a clear medium amber with a nice one finger white head. Fairly good head retention on a beer this light.

Lots of caramel in the aroma along with a moderate dose of grassy hops. Some hay and toast as well.

The flavor is somewhat sweet with some light toffee and toasted malt. A quick touch of fruit from the yeast along with some grass and hay. Mouthfeel is smooth and light with a pretty dry finish making this quite drinkable.

Overall, a tasty, sessionable beer. I was surprised at how good this is and could easily see putting back a few on a hot day.

A - Pours a honey color with an amber hue. Has a small 1/2 finger offwhite head with little retention and no lacing

S - light aromas. Fairly sweet smelling. Mainly caramel with hints off coffee

T - Much like the aroma. Sweet and malty. Caramel up front with a nice nutty finish. Hints of coffee are present throughout as well

M - Light to Medium body. Has a fairly dry finish. Smooth drinking for sure

O - An easy drinking brown. This would bea good beer to introduce someone to craft beer with. Definately sessionable. Would be enjoyable on a hot day.

Pours to a half inch head that falls to a thin ring of foam. No lacing. Color is a deep copper-amber. Aroma is very German, with soft noble hops and sweet decocted malts. Flavor is balanced and easygoing with sweet and nutty malts perfectly balanced with noble hops. Mouthfeel is light and CO2 is good. A very tasty and accurate Alt.
