Notes/Commercial Description:
It's fresh hop time! 200 lbs of fresh wet hops, one day off the vine, straight from Yakima Valley! This year, the fourth year in a row, our friend Darren suggested a curveball and sent us fresh Styrian Goldings. They are floral, slightly spicy hops normally used for styles like Saisons.

Bottled on 7-15-11

A: Pours a clear copper with barely a finger of off-white head that quickly recedes into a thin ring with no lacing.

S: Sweet caramel malts along with some light spice notes and bubblegum and candy sugar. There are some sweet citrus notes as well. Smells more like a Belgian style than an IPA.

T: Again, caramel malts along with some light spice notes. . The bubblegum isn't as apparent here in the flavor, but it's still sweet. There are some light pine hop flavors along with a slight bitterness on the finish.

M: Medium-light body with medium carbonation, this beer is a little watery.

O: This beer tastes more like a watered-down barleywine or old ale than an IPA. Maybe it was hoppier fresh, but at 3 weeks the hops are very subdued and it's too sweet for an IPA. Glad I only bought a single bottle of this one.

Bottle poured into pint glass. Bottle Sept. 15th, a whole 5 days ago. From the Yazoo blog. "It's fresh hop time! 200 lbs of fresh wet hops, one day off the vine, straight from Yakima Valley! A- Dark orange with come copper notes. A finger and half of light head. Some lacing.

S- Very tame for a fresh hop IPA. Hoppy, but more of in a pilsener type way than what you'd expect from an IPA. Slightly peppery. Slightly piney.

T- Pretty interesting. Again, not particularly IPA-like. I guess that is because I've never had a Styrian Goldings IPA. Some spiciness. Some pepper and pine like the nose. Not easy to put a finger on this one.

M- Medium bodied. Hop Projects are pretty consistent here.

O- This is a very interesting beer. Last years Fresh Hop HP with Sorachi Ace hops missed the mark big time, IMO. I wouldn't say that's the case here, as the beer is pretty good, but it isn't what one would expect based on the other beers in the series.
