During the 1800's, when the sun never set on the British Empire, beer being shipped to the Far East always arrived spoiled. To correct this situation, British brewers added large quantities of hops to their pale ales. (Hops act as a natural preservative.) The result is an intensely hoppy amber beer. Delicious with seafood and all spicy flavorful foods.

The Bombay IPA was served in a standard shaker pint glass.

The beer is dark copper with amber highlights. It is capped with a beige head. Not bad looking at all

The aroma is of pine and some toffee.

Taste tracks the smell. There were no surprises, just an old school, will made IPA. There are pine and caramel flavors and graham crackers in the finish.

The mouth is solid and slightly oily and mouth coating.

I liked this one had will have it again when I return in a few months.

A: Pours a slightly hazy amber/orange color. A one finger white head forms, and leaves some sticky lace behind.
S: A diacetyl bomb hit the nose right away, and pretty much ruins the nose. After that some light citrus aromas.
T: The diacetyl is nearly gone here. Other than that there is some citrus hops, a light bitterness, and a lingering sweetness.
M/D: A lighter body, and not as dry as I would like. A bit thin and watery as well. Not hard to drink. I can see this being an easy to quaff beer.

The diacetyl in the nose almost ruined this beer for me. Though it is not as bad otherwise. Overall, Boscos does better.

The best of the beers I tried at Boscos, which is a wonderful place to stop in for dinner or just to have a couple beers in little rock. Nice amber color and citrus nose. Smelled beautiful. As far as taste, even though they didnt list the IBUs because they were supposedly infinite, it was not overly bitter, well balanced, with just a hint of sweetness that I like in an IPA/PA and others may not. Good beer

This arrived with a big, foamy, bone-white head with good retention. The nose had a great citrusy aspect. The color was a slightly hazy deep amber. The mouthfeel was medium with a spicy, citrusy bitterness on the tongue. The finish had a lovely hoppiness to it, plenty enough to keep me satisfied.

Tasted on-tap 04/17/07 at Boscos in Little Rock, AR.

Dark golden in color with a low off-white head. Moderate citrus hop aromas and flavors maybe a touch light for the style but nicely balanced either way. Medium bodied with a nice bitter hop finish.

Maybe more of an American Pale Ale than an IPA in category due to the lower hop rate but probably their best beer.

This is one pretty beer. Just love the bright amber color. Good hoppy nose. Taste is there too. Good pungent depth to the taste. This one is a winner. Coming out of the tap it could have been just a little warmer though. Pair it with ham or chicken salad or even a caramel dessert. Yummy.

The beer arrived at the table clear golden with a white long lasting head.

The aroma was fruity with cascade hop aroma. The hop aroma was very low however and very restrained. The hops were accompanied with low slight caramel and diacetyl.

The flavor was fruity with low cascade bittering and cascade flavor. The caramel from the aroma was present in the flavor and the diacetly was just almost overdone in the flavor.

The finish was slightly sweet with lasting fruitiness and diacetyl into the aftertaste. The body was medium. The beer was decidedly underhopped, but tasty.

Tasted November 2003.

Nice citrus hop nose. Orangey color and generous head. The best dimension of this beer is its carefully assertive yet restrained bitterness--much more like a modern British interpretation of the style. It lets the malt shine through! For an IPA I don't think ever I've had one that was this quaffable. The hop character is very intense without too much of the harsh resiny bitterness that some Pacific Northwest styles of IPA have. If I can make a beer this good at home I will HAVE to go pro.
