After a tasty meal and some decent beers at Bosco’s, I was in the mood for desert. Looking over the menu, I decided the porter would fit the bill.

As with all beers ta this friendly spot, it is served in standard pint. The beer is dark brown with mahogany highlights. It has a beige head and lace.

It has an inviting aroma of dark roasted malts, brown sugar and raisins.

The beer leads with darkly roasted malts. There is some sweetness that reminds me of toffee and there are raisins a touch of baker’s chocolate in the finish.

The mouth is ok, could be use a bit more heft. This was a good end of the night beer.

According to the brewer, the style he shot for with this batch was "brown porter" rather than the robust American porter style done well by regional counterparts Marshall, Boulevard and Diamond Bear. So I kept that style in mind for the final analysis.

Pours to a thick beige head with ample lacing. Aroma is chocolaty and roasty but not powerfully so. Some toffee notes as well. Flavor is a characteristic mild roast and chocolate base with nondescript bittering resins from the hops to balance the moderate sweetness. A very English tasting porter. Mouthfeel is light-medium with low-moderate carbonation. Overall, a very tasty beer although not to be confused with a robust porter.

A: Pours a dark brown, nearly black color. A large tan head rises to about two fingers with good retention. Some stick lace is left behind as well.
S: A lightly roasted malt aroma with some chocolate, toffee, and wood. Though an odd astringent aroma that detracts for me a little.
T: Big milk chocolate and toffee up front. A very nice toasted malt flavor as well. Simple, but enjoyable.
M/D: A medium to full body. Very creamy. Not to thick and not to light, just as a Porter should be. Very easy to drink. I can quaff plenty with ease.

A very good porter. Simple and enjoyable is the name of the game, and it is just what the style should be. I always have some when I visit the brewpub.

Moderately dark brown color. Very light chocolate palate. Seemed like they were going for a roasty English style with more subtleness. Lacks the punch of a good American style craft brewed porter. Pretty bland. Fuggles and Kent Goldings used, but maybe only a pinch.

The beer arrived at the table translucent dark brown with a low yet persistent off-white head.

The aroma was nicely done with chocolate and caramel and malty aroma that was slightly fruity but most strong in chocolate.

The flavor was chocolate with a malty caramel presence and noticeable bittering. The bittering did a good job of balancing the sweetness.

The finish was just dry with lasting chocolate and caramel well into the aftertaste. The body was medium and well done. A nice beer.

From notes taken at the brewpub. London Porter's appearance is dark brown in color with a ruby hue when viewed against the light. The head is good-sized and light brown. Aroma isn't very strong. Light roasted chocolate malt aroma is noted. Taste is dominated by roasted malt. Flavor is reminiscent of coffee. The taste could be fuller and more flavorful, however since this isn't too big it is probably more sessionable.
