A: clear pale straw colour
S: grainy, some freshness
T: easy drinking grainy, some malt, no hops

D: for hot summer days, easy drinking pale lager, better than I would imagine.

12oz. bottle, brewed in Holland (according to the label). Nice golden yellow color with not much foam. The flavor falls into the adjunct lager category, with some skunky staleness. Not a bad beer but not great. Would likely be refreshing on a hot summer day.

There is a date on the back label: "BEST BY: AUG 2024 321552S1919 07323"

Appearance: The beer has fantastic clarity with a bright gold body and tons of visible carbonation leading to a medium-sized fluffy white head. It has excellent head retention and some spots of lacing.

Aroma: When the beer was first poured it had a bit of a skunky scent before getting close to the beer. This seems to have faded out as the nose approaches the glass. It has an herbal hop aroma with a bit of bay leaf, mint, and a touch of skunk.

Taste: Up front there is a light bit of caramel flavor and a touch of cereal grain. The beer has a good herbal hop flavor towards the middle of the mouth which helps cut into the sweetness. It finishes with a bit of a cedar note and more herbal hops.

Mouthfeel: It has a slightly wet finish and a light body. The beer has high carbonation which helps keep things bright on the palate. It drinks well.

Overall: The label on the beer states that this is the "Pride of Haiti" and that it is "Brewed in Holland" as an "IMPORTED Lager Beer." The back label explains that the beer is being brewed in Holland while the brewery is being upgraded in Haiti, with the promise that brewing will return to Haiti. It is unclear if the beer was shipped from Holland to Haiti and then to the US, or if it was imported from Holland directly to the US. The beer has a little bit of skunking which seems to be common with a lot of imported lagers, but it wasn't that bad. The beer itself had some good hop character and it had a pleasant sweetness.

It isn't something I am likely to buy again as an import but it was nice enough to try. I would drink it again if I found it in Haiti. I wouldn't really recommend for or against the beer but it's good enough to try if you're looking to try a Haitian beer.

12 oz bottle made in Holland. Pours pale straw with long lasting white head and soda like carbonation. Aroma is of grassy hops and bready malt. Body is medium and crisp. Grassy, herbal hops balanced on the palate with biscuit malt. Finish is long and dry. Refreshing brew.

Brasserie Nationale d'Haïti (BRANA) "Prestige"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle "BEST BY: JAN-2024 301262861920". Sampled on 20 August 2023
$1.99 @ Total Wine & More, Claymont, DE

Notes via stream of consciousness: "Brewed in Holland". Based on the light color of this beer I'm going to assume that there's some adjunct in use. It's a perfectly clear light straw gold in color beneath a standard finger's width of bright white foam. The aroma expresses lightly sweetish and grainy malt that's got some mild grassy and herbal hops to it. The taste bears that out and it's very much like a medium price tier Euro lager. In fact, it's much better than some of the low priced ones I've tried as it's well-brewed. It's mildly bitter and on the sweeter side of things but there are a lot of beers like that, and it is fairly well-balanced for what it is. The one drawback is that the head retention is limited, and thus there's no lacing left behind. In the mouth it's light-medium in body and gently crisp. I hope that once the brewery in Haiti is rebuilt they can brew it to the same high level that this is but I somehow doubt it. Regardless, it should still work ice cold as a refresher during hot weather.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a light to medium golden amber with a three finger white head that dissipates to a thick cap with nice lacing. Aroma of grainy pilsner malt, grassy hops, hints of corn. Flavor of bready malt with some grain, grassy hops, apple juice and some corn sweetness. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A pleasant Euro lager with suggestions of pilsner malt and continental hops. A little malt sweetness that is reminiscent of corn adjunct, but not sure if any is used in this recipe. Like the better adjunct lagers, this one is well integrated, slightly sweet and refreshing. I wasn't sure how Haiti was able to export beer, but the story of the Haitian brewery being destroyed in a storm with the beer now being brewed in the Netherlands may explain why. The profile is reminiscent of Heineken or other popular Euro lagers, but lighter in color, flavor density and with the mild sweetness. I'm jaded with noble hops, but I found this pleasant and quite drinkable. It will interesting to see closely this corresponds to the original recipe when the brewery opens again.

Clear light golden appearance with sparse lazy film of surface head. Grass, celery, tea. Light body and light carbonation, even a bit watery. Nothing offensive about this beer, just very little nose, taste, and even mouthfeel.

Pours a pale straw gold with ample head that dissipates to a light edge ring rather abruptly.

The aroma is mild. Perhaps a little biscuit. A hint of floral hops. Very mild.

Taste follows closely, but a little more strongly. Biscuity malt is subtle. The hop favour is lightly floral/grassy and is also quite subtle.

Light and airy. Moderate carbonation. Very easy drinking.

This is a decent homogeneous lager that goes well with the hot temperatures today. Better than many.

Pours a light golden color. Crystal clear. Frothy white head forms, then slowly dissipates until just a thin layer of foam remains.

Aroma has notes of white bread, sweet bread, and some lager skunkiness like you get from a Heineken. Light hoppy notes are there, but very subtle.

Taste is somewhat better than the nose initially implied with that skunkiness. There are notes of white bread, light toasted malt, some moderate sweetness and a light grassy hop character on the finish.

Feel is light, crisp, easy drinking. Bright, moderate carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

As Euro pale lagers go, this one is alright. I would drink it again.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a one finger head of white foam. The head has a good level of retention, fading slowly over time to leave a light bit of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a bready and caramel smell mixed with a touch of graininess and a little bit of harvest fruit of pear and apple and some corn syrup sweetness.
Taste – The taste begins caramel, corn syrupy, and bready flavor mixed with a light graininess. As the taste advances the sweet does too, with more caramel and some light fruitiness of apple coming to the tongue. At the same time the breadiness gets more-doughy in nature, and with the changes that occur throughout the taste, one is left with a sweeter and somewhat more malty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and chewiness with a carbonation level that is medium. For the more bready and malty taste the feel is actually very good. It highlights the maltiness well, but still keeps it rather easy drinking.
Overall –A easy drinking lager with a sweeter more malty style.
