A - Transparent golden hue with a thin white head. Poor retention

S - Sweet malts. Nothing else going on.

T - Stale biscuits which turn dry in a hurry. Wetness turns dry as the beer finishes. Unpleasant.

M - Lively carbonation covers an thin body.

O - Just a bad beer, not worth the calories. Avoid it.

I have a tendency to be skeptical of things that proclaim themselves to be gold. However, the Green lager was at least passable, and gold has to be better than green, right? Right? Once again, this can of Danish beer was made in Turkey, with labelling that submits the fact that it possesses a "Perfectly Balanced" flavour. A little vague, but at least they didn't claim it to be cold-tasting or something equally stupid.

This beer is - presumably not coincidentally, considering the name - a translucent pale golden colour, only slightly darker than its green cousin. A frothy off-white head develops but has receded to wisps and a thin collar after a minute. Smell is very uninteresting - slightly sweet; basically identical to the green version except with a twinge of ethanol on the nose.

Taste is a little weird, and not in a very good way; mostly malt characters though. I want to say that it tastes sweet, but it's really more of a tangy flavour, and the whole profile has an unpleasant hybrid grain/vegetal quality to it. There is some lemony hop bitterness as well, but alcohol and that weird tangy sweetness overtake it in the finish. Mouthfeel is mostly thin, but the booze and sweetness make your mouth feel sticky afterward.

This is the closest I have come to a drainpour in a long time, but I will soldier on through the whole 500 mL can. I am not particularly hard to please when it comes to beer. Especially EPLs, a style which is fairly simple, and is represented by literally hundreds of decent or better examples. This isn't one of them - frankly I can think of many domestic macros I would prefer over this. If you must drink a Tuborg, the green one is far less offensive.

[Updated Oct. 18 2013]

I picked up another can, and compared it side-by-side with Stella, Heineken and Grolsch. My old review is still completely accurate - this is a terrible beer and I really cannot emphasize that enough. It's sweet, corny, kind of boozy, and just plain gross - even getting through a single can is a struggle. It is difficult to do worse than this without foolishly stumbling into Malt Liquor country.

Final Grade: 2.45, a D+.

500ml Can

Appearance - Clear pale gold/yellow colour with a large size fizzy white coloured head. There is a below average amount of carbonation showing and there is just a fair amount of lacing. The head lasted for around five minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Grains/bread, corn, skunkiness

Taste & Mouth - The beer has a below average amount of carbonation. I can taste bread/grains mixed with light hops and corn. There also a fair amount of skunkiness to the beer and it tasted a little harsh.

Overall - I wouldn't but this beer again. If you have to buy a Tuborg beer, go for the green version.

Tuborg seems to be in baffle mode. They have a lot of very similar beers with very similar names, packages, strengths, and other characteristics. Got this green bottle (2nd in) off the shelf at the nearby Supermercado Carrefour here in Recoleta, Buenos Aires. Poured with a white head and virtually no lace. Clear gold color. Luckily only a whiff of skunk from the bottle, off the glass and in the sip. Otherwise simple pale lager aroma with a little hop. Skunk disappears quickly in the taste followed by no frills euro pale lager of a little more bitter than sweet beer. Not much depth, a little, but not much. A little body too. Pretty much a yawner. This might end up being another beer under a different name so I'm gonna quit jabbering.

Poured from a can from the mini bar in my hotel room in Rome into a plastic cup(best I had available).

A - Light golden color, almost clear, light head.

S - Slight hoppy smell mixed with aluminum smell

T - Classic Euro Lager taste, lighter beer with slightly hoppiness.

M - Well carbonated, light bodied.

D - Certainly drinkable, needed 3 to get a buzz!

Not overly impressed with this beer, had it a few times (bottled mostly) while on holiday in Turkey, this review is of a can taken in my hotel room overlooking the pool.

Very hot day, very cold can, poured into a pint handled glass mug.

The gold coloured 50cl can promised 100% Malt, everything else appeared to be in Turkish, so not sure what else was added to the Malt, not even sure you can add anything to 100% of something?

Anyway the beer poured a bright golden colour and a good sized head of snow white foam sat on top.

The smell was weak, hints of Malts but very little of anything, the taste was also very weak, again with a malt feel more than a flavour.

This is a typical lightweight Euro Fizzy Lager and I'd expected more from Tuborg, even if it is brewed in Turkey.

A: Perfectly translucent straw yellow color. Head is big, foamy and pure white. Retention is bad though and absolutely no lacing.

S: Pale malts smell in there. Good brown sugar aroma. Some light herbal and floral hop aroma. Faint citrus. Light biscuit and multi grain bread.

T: Again, very similar to the smell. Brown sugar, light herbal, floral and citrus-y hops. Light biscuit and multi grain bread. Light tasting overall, but much more interesting than, let's say, Heineken.

M: Light body with medium to high level of carbonation. Nothing exceptional. Wish it could have been a tad heavier.

D: Very very high drinkability, which is pretty much the same for all low tasting lagers.

In short, nothing good and nothing bad, very average.

Found this in my dad's fridge. No idea where he got it, never seen this before. So there's Copenhagen written all over this can but it's actually brewed in Turkey. Don't like the sound of that.

Poured into my Tuborg pilsner glass.

A- About four fingers of creamy, frothy, slightly yellowish head. Light gold liquid seems pretty carbonated. Lots of messy lacing like many other similar beers.

S- Not much. Slightly spicy grain. Getting something similar to saffron for some reason. Warmed up a bit and am now pretty sure the spiciness is coming from the hops. Seems to come as the head opens up and fade in unison with the head.

T- Seems to be more grain character than regular tuborg. The main taste and after-taste is creamy caramel and artificial vanilla, a bit like those cheap candy caramel cubes. Not much bitterness. Hops? No idea what they could be. I know there are hops in here but can't really describe them. Tastes a bit wrong/odd but okay.

M- Surprising how little carbonation there is in here. It's okay but really close to being flat which makes it a little dull and gross. Not very dry either.

D- Good except for the being flat part. If in a euro lager mood, I'll drink a four pack with little difficulty.

This is okay. I'd add this to my rotation of import canned Euro lager.

One 500ml can from LCBO. Served cold into pint glass.

Appearance - Nice clear pale golden color. 1.5 fingers of head that disappears quickly. Significant bubbles within the glass are visible.

Smell - Bready, grassy with a bit of skunkiness. Nothing big or unusual for the style. Slight metallicness that is not unbecoming in this instance.

Taste - Slight sweetness up front, minimal bitterness and slight bready, grassy flavors. Not much in the way aftertaste. For whatever reason, I actually kind of liked the way everything was put together here.

Mouthfeel - Decent body, but a bit flatter than expected. Moderately wet thirst quenching finish.

Overall - OK, Euro lager, but nothing special for the style.

500ml Bottle, gift purchased in Turkey.

Golden straw colour with a pinky-sized, foamy white head that leaves a soapy lacing after a minute or two.

Quite mild & creamy with a lot of bread & corn for the adjuncts. Some sweet malts present along with some mild grassy hops too. An above average smelling pale lager.

Lots of grassy hops upfront, mixed in with some sweet malts & nice combination of corn & bread. Has a solid taste & there is some nice citrus lemon flavours towards the end.

Light bodied without being watered down or weak, the beer has a slight fizz at the back end on the tongue & a pleasant bitter finish that isn't too strong.

This beer has been a huge surprise and went down pretty well. A good pale lager that I'll drink again if I can find it again.
