Having lived in Georgia on two separate occassions, I can say with some authority that visitors looking for a drink would do well to stick to the wine. There are two Georgian beers that I would recommend people try and this one of them. It pours a bubbly orange with a yellow head and smells just like it tastes: like nutty malts balanced with grassy hops. Drinking in Georgia has way of redefining one's definitions of "drinkability" and "session appropriate." If you find yourself drinking anything with one of the many friendly people of the South Caucasus, you'll probably find yourself drinking gallons of it until the wee hours of the morning!

Kazbegis Hunter Lager pours a hazy, orange-amber body beneath a creamy head of off-white that holds very well but leaves only spotty lace. It appears to be bottle-conditioned; and very fine bubbles can be seen rising steadily towards the surface. The nose is malty. Its bready with a nutty, caramelish and even cocoas-ish note. Its not bold, but it is enticing. In the mouth its gently tingly and then creamy and smooth across the tongue with a very fine, median carbonation and medium body. The flavor is malty sweet, but balanced. Its richly caramelish and nutty; backed by a solid bitterness and spicy, leafy, and grassy hops that lead to a dry finish. A very nice surprise coming out of Russia! Its kind of like a big brown ale, and yet its a lager. A dark (but not dunkles) Munich lager perhaps? And although it seems to be a full and rich beer with alot of malt to begin with, the alcohol is only listed at 4.5%. And, theres no real alcohol evident in either the flavor or the aroma. But its not cloying in any way. Very well done indeed! A surprisingly interesting and enjoyable lager at a great price. Well worth trying

A: The bottle has a picture of a hunting dog in a field. The beer itself pours a copper brown with a decent white head that quickly disappears.
S: Sweet and caramel malt tones. Possibly honey and a bit of orange.
T: Very similar to smell. Sweet with a nice caramel malt taste.
M: Smooth and not highly carbonated.
D: Very drinkable. I wouldn't hesitate to have several of these.

Thanks to tomdecapolis for this...
Appears a light orange gold with virtually no head and no lacing left behind.
Smell is fruity with a bit of a adjunct lager smell. Overall pleasant with some fruit salad and citrus aromas dominating.
Taste is of the same aromas with a mellow taste with the same dominance dominating.
Mouthfeel is decent. A bit of a corn syrup feel hanging around but not bad.
Drinkability is pretty good. I would drink this again, no problem.

Suprisingly dark for a lager, pours with a color more like a nut brown ale. Also suprisingly packed with flavor, sweet caramel malty, hints of licorece and citrus. Floatees in the bottle slightly off-putting, and its a little sweet, But overall a much better beer then I was anticipating.
