12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Burnt orange. Almost no head. A few stray bubbles.

Smell - A little fruity. Caramel. Kinda nutty and oxidized.

Taste - Boozy. Caramel. Appley. Oxidized with a bit of cardboard.

Mouthfeel - Low carbonation. Boozy. Kinda thin and bitter.

Overall - Clearly getting old. But not terrible.

Dark amber body with a lasting covering and lacing.
The aroma is hoppy in a citrus way, and alcohol that gets a bit toward acetone. hmmm.
Flavors are a bit rough and disconnected. The citrus notes have a bit of acidity, the alcohol is a bit of solvent like aspects, pine sap is noted, and the malts are just what you would expect really, caramel with a dry toffee note.
mouthfeel is medium.

Another barleywine slayed.

Stubby 12 oz. bottle served in an oversized wine glass. Thanks for this extra Todd. Reviewed from notes.

Pours a very clear orange, with ruby highlights. A virtually nonexistent head and, consequently, minimal lacing. A slight suggestion of legs.

The aroma is very hop-forward. This is quite sweet, with an overwhelming character of citrus fruits. I'm getting a lot of orange, with some pear as well. The malt profile comes through only slightly, and there's a little butterscotch in the mix.

The taste is far maltier than the aroma would suggest. Quite sweet, not unlike a movie theater slushie. Again, lots of pears in the finish, though there's also a lot of apricot at work. All of these fruit flavors are crisp and clean, and they work well together. Almost no alcohol bite.

The mouthfeel is on the flat side, this could really use more carbonation. I'd imagine that the flavors could open up even more with some added life.

A solid barleywine from a brewery about which I know almost nothing. I'm not sure how old my bottle was, but it seemed ready to go right now.

Big thanks to the Barleywine god ibrew2or3 for this one.

A: Pours a nice amber hue with a small egg white head. Okay retention with some lace.

S: Lots of sweet malt with a big blast of caramel. Floral hops, sweet summer fruit and a touch of booze.

T: Very yummy. Lots of sweet goodness. Caramel and brown sugar up front. Piney hops with subtle citrus. Floral hops and a bit of the sweet fruit I detected in the nose.

M: Medium in body, almost would call it light for the style.

D: Good, its tasty and being extra light would allow you to drink plenty.

S : Lots of malt

T : Has a nice strong malty flavor that has a hop bitterness on the backend

M : Creamy

D : Why does this have to be retired? I really liked it and could have had more.

deep orange/red pour, appears both murky and clear. head is not an issue, but lacing is serious and indicative of thickness and depth. candy corn aroma with a bit of smoky meat sweat and funky, footy hops playing second nasal fiddle here. first sip shows a smooth richness, accentuated by heavy butterscotch notes, sticky lips and a lingering bitterness to contrast the sweet. this beer is surely not a gulper, and a rare deviation from the standard spectrum of textbook american and english barleywines. with warmth and adaptation, strawberry notes emerge as does a more clear hop citrus vibe. the hops were well hidden until my palate adjusted to the by-products of the beers huge malt bill.

for sure, this 'trade extra' has proven to be a much-appreciated surprise and a winner overall. recommended, and a definite must-try for barleywine heads the world 'round.

I sampled the beer at the brewery's pub in Kennewick, WA. A 12 ounce bottle was poured by the staff into a flute.

A-: It poured a bright amber with gold tint and a modest half finger head that receded quickly and barely laced the side of the glass.

S: It had very distinct aromas lead by toasted sweet smelling malts and green grassy hops.

T: The flavor early in the sip was lead by a nice sweet fruity malt flavor that was quickly complemented by a burst of hoppy bitterness. The two flavors mingled creating a balanced, yet complex dance across the tongue. This is a bold beer that challenges the "barley wine" classification and should please hop heads.

M: It is a medium bodied brew with a sweet front and a zesty bitter back and a clean and dry finish.

D: This is among the brewery's best. It's a fun beer to drink yet getting beyond two in a session might be difficult.

Deep brown color, medium head. Malty with a strong hop finish. Rich and complex flavor, nutty and chocolaty, yet with a distinct hop spiciness. Full bodied. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Finish is dry and hoppy. Not a lot of alcohol bite, despite an 8.5 % alcohol content.

Pours a deep brown color, with a moderate beige head and fair lace. Nose is malt with slight hints of caramel, the top has a moderate mouthfeel. The cloying sweetness continues on to the finish, that is fairly well hopped, moderately acidic, and the aftertaste is malt and a bit dry. At best average, can't say I liked it, pretty tame for a Barley Wine.

Strawberries and nutmeg dominate the nose. Dark amber color with a moderate hop bitterness. Some sweet berry favors come across followed by the bitterness in the finish. Overall enjoyable, but not the best.
