Format: a good 330mL brown bottle with a stylish macro label.

Appearance: a crystal clear pale yellow amber with a finger of white head that drops away pretty quickly to a thin ring.

Aroma: the usual macro grains, but also some herbal hop aromas which is nice.

Taste: follows the nose to the letter. Herbal hops with macro grains - quite nice.

Aftertaste: drops away fairly quickly with a touch of bitterness hanging about.

Mouth feel: light in feel with an okay carbonation. I would like a touch more flavour from a bit more carbonation.

Overall: whilst this is still just a pretty standard macro lager, it is better than your average. Pretty good for AU$43 a case too.

355 mL green bottle purchased as a single at the LCBO. Listed at 5% and brewed under license in Saratoga Springs, NY - but it still counts as an Indian beer to me, dammit.

Pours a foggy golden-yellow colour, capped off with one finger of dense, white-coloured head that steadily disappears over the next few minutes. A thin, bubbly film and collar soon takes its place, with minimal lace. The aroma is grainy, with notes of honey and corn. A hint of grassy, weedy hops also comes through. I got a big whiff of skunk when I initially popped the cap, but it seemed to dissipate quickly enough.

The flavour profile is boring and not particularly clean, which is a problem for something that is not classified as an adjunct lager. Grainy pale barley malts, corn husk and a boiled vegetable water sweetness pretty much sums this one up. More of the grassy, weedy hops detected on the nose manage to provide a noticeable bitterness toward the finish. Fairly light in body, with moderate carbonation that provides a crisp, refreshing bite.

Final Grade: 3.00, a C grade. Kingfisher Premium is actually a decent industrial lager, but not at Canadian import prices. The flavour grew on me a little as I made my way through the glass, but not enough to give this anything more than a mediocre grade - because it is just a mediocre pale lager. If you're at an Indian restaurant and the beer selection is limited, this would be a viable option, but I can't envision a situation where I'd go out of my way to drink this again.
