I had this on nitro-tap at Thirsty Bear in San Francisco, CA. It was a deep black color, with a foamy/creamy tan head and lots of lacing. It had a complex roasty aroma - something of chocolate and maybe even a hint of cherries? The taste was mainly of the roasted malt, and not as thick a mouthfeel as your typical Irish Stout - a bit more like a porter, except for the thick head.

Nearly black with a thick milk chocolate head that lasts and lasts as a Nitro should. Looks great. Nose is baker’s chocolate. Taste is too. Mouthfeel is doughy with a sweet front and a dry tangy hoped finish. It's a touch light. This was the best of the three beers I tried at Thirsty Bear and the only one worthy of mention.

look: semi-opaque black with transient dark brown head

nose: dark roasted malt reminds me of turkish coffee and abuelita hot chocolate.

taste: awesome dark coffee malts up front, with a nice clean cascade? bitterness coming through the back. The finish is one of those classic long roast stout and toffee finishes.

mouthfeel: fun viscosity without stickiness. Creamy but in a espresso crema way, not in a milkshake way.

drinkability: nitrogenated and dry this guy is set up to be very drinkable, and does not disappoint.

More of an american-style stout than a dry irish stout IMO. Pours opaque black, with a creamy tan head from the nitro. Lots of roasty, chocolate and coffee flavours. Espresso like. Very creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Hops are apparent and they give it an underlying fruitiness which complements the roastedness very well. Extremely enjoyable stout.

Pours a dark brown black, with a thin but creamy head. No smell at first due to being served too cold, but after letting it warm, aroma came through with chocolate and coffee malty tones. Taste is likewise, the chocolate more prominant. Good smooth, full body, a little bit chewy. This is a pretty good beer, average stout, and quite nice to drink.

The beer is black with tan head. Good lacing. Nice looker as the nitro adds that great cascade.

The nose is of chocolate, roasted malts and a bit of alcohol.

Taste is not as full as expected. While the roasted malts make a nice statement, and the hops add some needed bitterness, unfortunately the beer turned a bit sour as well. Still, I liked the dark earthy malts and the beer did get better as it warmed. Unfortunately, they served this beer to cold, kind of surprised a place as good as the Bear would make that mistake.

The mouth was a bit thin, but the nitro added some smoothness. Despite some flaws, I still enjoyed this one and finished my night by having a couple of pints of this stout.

Part of the sampler platter. Reviewed 7/15/10.

P: Near black, opaque. Mocha head.

A: Standard aromas of roasted malts and coffee,

T: Very dry, barley flavor. Coffee ground flavors that are pretty bitter on the finish.

Too dry and too bitter on the finish. Very average.

Malty chocolate coffee smell, with a rich black color and light brown head to the bear and thick lacing. Taste is similar to the smell, with a hint of caramel. Some bitterness, but very drinkable, creamy and a bit dry in the finish, but not too much so.

Black color, creamy tan head. Chocolate and coffee aroma. A big bodied stout. Chocolate malts predominate the taste. Bold flavor with a dry finish. Well balanced. Nice stout. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is smooth and dry. Aftertaste us malty and slightly bitter.

Very dark, near black in colour with a creamy tan cap. Great head retention with sticky thick rings of foam coating the glass. The aroma was mostly roasted malt with some dry cocoa - not bad. The flavour was mostly chocolate wtih some malt and hop bitterness, dry roast, and light toffee sweetness. Light bodied with a smooth, silky texture and low carbonation. Quite good.

I had a pint of this at the brewpub in San Franciso. I believe it was on nitro-tap, but I didn't ask after getting my beer because the bar was swamped. Pours an opaque black with a finger or 2 of white head. Lacing down the glass, nice head retention. Smells of huge roasted malt, mild coffee and chocolate. Some roasty bitterness in the flavour, mild sweetness. Very well balanced stout. Creamy mouthfeel from the nitro pour. My favourite of the 4 beers I had here.

Typical stout color. This one has a great dark tan head with lots of lacing.

Good balance between smoke and roast, a little coffee and a little sweetness in there as well.

The roast overpowers everything else but it's still a decent flavor.

It's pretty thin on mouthfeel and unfortunately it does hurt the score a little bit.

I thought it had a bit too much roast and was a bit thin to be drinkable in this style. I'd probably reach for something else if given the choice.
