My first visit to Front Street, I was lucky enough to be there as they were in the middle of their Apricot release - For the entirety of my week long visit to the area, this brew and their eatery was a main-stay in my daily routine! The beer was excellent (as were a couple of their other selections) and the food was paired quite nicely with the drink selections they offered! Great experience!

who knew davenport iowa was such a booming beer town? but it is apparently. was fortunate enough to stop here en route to denver from syracuse. the place is small, on the riverfront and kind of a cross between modern and old industrial decor, very homey but also historic feeling. comfortable. maybe 5 or 6 brews on tap, all kind of generic stuff to read about, but they were actyally pretty good beers, some even with a clever twist. i liked the stout the best, but all were solid enough for a thirsty traveller after 850 miles. service was a little slow for being not full, but our guy was nice enough and happy to chat to us about the place and the town. beer is now brewed off site just down the road, and he didnt know alcohol content of any of the beers, kind of odd right? food was wonderful, i had them put their puller pork in the mac and cheese for me, with a side of stout bbq sauce. it was flat out awesome. all menu items looked crafted, well done, yummy food. fairly priced, cool place to chill. maybe the best food ive had in the state of iowa, which isnt saying a ton, but its significant to me, made a great impression and i will absolutely be back to front street.

Good location downtown near the casino. Parking was difficult; supposedly there is parking across the for casino.
Visited around 5:30pm. The bar was half full with regulars and business folks. The restaurant was about a quarter full from what I could see.
Barkeep was friendly and knowledgable about the brews and restaurant (they have been brewing on site for about 20 years).
First beer I tried the cherry ale. It was average. Good head retention. Huge cherry aroma and taste but that could have been from the marrachino cherry that was tossed in it. At the bottom of the glass I picked up some off flavors, skunky.
Second beer was the raging river ale, an "english pale ale". Above average. Nice head retention and belgium lace. A lot of hops up Front.
Above average food menu.
I would visit the place again to try some other items on the menu.

Seems like the brewery and regulars are comfortable with the beers. Or the locals don't expect much. Only one man's humble opinion.

Love the fish tacos!!! That is probably the best thing I can say about Front Street. They're also conveniently located by a gambling boat. Every time a visit here, which is every time I come to the Quad Cities (every three months or so) they have not improved their beer at all. The beer is average at best, but the damn fish tacos keep me coming back! They have a flight of their brews which is reasonably priced, but there is definitely nothing special about any of them. The wait staff and bartender are always polite, but the emphasis never seems to be about the beer. Atmosphere is good and it has never been overly noisy. If you're going gambling at the boat you should stop by and grab a bite to eat, but don't expect much from the beer.

Did a flight of beers here, and all seemed standard fare... nothing too impressive. It also didn't really have that destination feel that many brewpubs have, as the staff was not that well versed in craft beer and many of the patrons were more or less there after work for food or a drink. The layout of the place was nice, but with the reduction of restrictions on beer strength what have you, hopefully they will become more bolder in some choices and have the clientele to support such an establishment. As is, it has that cookie cutter brew pub feel that I associate with breweries in the malls and such.

Stop #329 on my world brewery tour.

Visited around 6:00 on a Monday night. Interesting location on the main river road but not much else going on around it at night. Old historic building with a much nicer interior than exterior.

Dining with a non beer geek co worker so I wasn't taking notes. We both ordered the beer sampler and they were out of the stout so I doubled down on the pale. All beers were well done for the style; it's just that I didn't care much for the styles other than the hefe...

Hefe, cherry ale, English ale, and an apricot ale.

I found it odd that they would have two fruit beers in December in IA (when it's pretty cold).

The food was very good. I have grilled mahi tacos with asparagus. My co worker had a very hearty mac and cheese with a side of brussel sprouts.

I'd recommend for dinner alone. Well done modest beers that would not offend anyone.

I dropped in on the Brewpub while spending some time in Davenport for work. The atmosphere is inviting. They have a nice bar area with some comfortable looking booths on the opposite wall. Scattered about are a large number of tables. The quality of the brew leaves much to be desired. I ordered the stout and was thouroughly disappointed. So much so that I drank only a few sips and left the rest for the host to dump.

Service was by no means friendly and the waiter appeared as if he had more important places to be. I don't enjoy bashing a server so I'll stop now. For all I know he could have been having a bad day.

The selection of beers was very limited. Especially for a place that brews it's own. Six beers and according to the rest of thefolks in my party, none were worth trying again.

On to the food. I had a carved beef sandwich served with fries and an au-ju sauce for dipping. I also witnessed the serving of a cheeseburger, fish fry and sausage plate. At best the food was okay. It was definitely not a place I will seek out again for the food... or the beer for that matter.

I suggest you pass this joint on by and patronize a place with better character.

Stopped in after visiting the Great River Taproom.

Your typical brewpub atmosphere with high ceilings, brick walls, and wood furnishings. Ordered a sampler of their six offerings ($6.50) which included a Hefewezien, a cherry lager (with an added maraschino!?), Old Gold Lager, Raging Pale Ale, Their pumpkin seasonal dusted with nutmeg (in December...), and a their Bucktown Stout. Full bar service was also available.

Let me talk about the beers. The hefeweizen came with a lemon which was promptly removed. I have a serious problem adding the citrus to hefe's, saisons, witbier, etc. without being asked. I hate masking poor brewing with fruit. Surprisingly enough, the hefe was probably the best beer which again leads me to wonder, why the fruit? The same goes with the cherry lager that had an added maraschino. Out of pure bewilderment I drank it and to my dismay didn't mind it as I like maraschino's. So did I like the BEER, don't know as I couldn't really taste it. A pumpkin seasonal in December either means their brew schedule different than mine or business is slow enough not to warrant a new seasonal. Not a bad pumpkin beer but could have done without the dusting of nutmeg. The Pale ale was arguably the best with nice hop aroma and flavor. The stout was closer to a porter in carbonation, color, and flavor. In poor lighting it was more brown than the thick black hues normally seen in stout.

The food wasn't bad, not spectacular. I ordered chicken fingers, mainly because I had just had my wisdom teeth out so something plain but also because it was comparatively cheap to everything else at $9.25 for 4 chicken fingers some fries and coleslaw.

Overall, if you've got nothing else to do go ahead, you might like their beers and the food isn't terrible. Just plan on spending some cash on the food. Wouldn't travel for this one.

They had a nice selection of beer and good food, but there was nothing really special to make you want to go out of your way to stop here. The brick building they occupy is a tiny, narrow thing wedged between two hulks that tower over it. It is very nice that there is plenty of parking just across the street, but it seems temporary and looks like is just waiting to be redone or built on.

The 6-beer sampler showed their diversity with a Cherry Ale and an Apricot Ale in the mix along with a gold, a hefeweisen, and a stout. All were OK but didn't seem to display as much range as you would expect. The Raging River Ale was overall mild but had nice hoppiness; Bucktown Stout had decent smoky overtone and wasn't too watery.

I got ribs and my wife got chicken which were both adequate and their beer cheese was quite good. Unfortunately, the soft pretzel we ordered first never got lost along the way.

I short, I wouldn't tell you not to stop here, but there is no comparison to the Blue Cat Brew Pub just across the river in Rock Island, IL.

This brewpub really seems to be phoning it in. All the beers had a similar watery homebrew quality to them. The Hefeweizen and Raging River were ok, but were similarly thin and watery. Apricot Ale was promising, but again lacked any distinctive character.

Atmosphere was a little hectic on a Saturday night, families having dinner, couples too, most were eating. Tables were close together and a bit cramped, yet one large table in the back was occupied by employees wrapping silverware. Worn wood floors and exposed brick and wood beams overhead. Some framed historical photos on the walls. Flatscreens above the bar, with baseball on. Bizarrely there were martinis and monster energy drinks pouring at the bar. Had the sampler and decided on a pint of the Apricot Ale, the rotating "brewmaster's selection". Plates going by looked decent, but we didn't try the food.

Sally was our server and she was great, really quick and friendly. We had to swap out one of the sampler glasses that was dirty, and she didn't miss a beat.

We weren't really feeling the vibe here, so we left after one round. Can't really recommend it, Great River, Bent River, and Bierstube are better places for a beer in the area.

Stopped in the Front Street Brewery on a Friday at dinnertime. Had been meaning to try it out for awhile now since it is a local brewpub. Overall, I was unimpressed. I had two beers, one of which was a seasonal cranberry. This was very weak. I detected almost literally no cranberry flavor at all, to the point that I think they may have given me the wrong beer by mistake. I also had their stout. I liked this, but it was somewhat watery. It was more the consistency of a porter with the flavor profile of a stout. I like porters so I enjoyed it well enough. I ordered the slow-roasted beef with mozzerella on French bread. This came with Au Ju sauce (which I'm finding out I like a lot) and was very good. However, the portions were relatively small. I felt like I could have eaten another entire entree. The service was so-so. Three different servers waited on us throughout our stay. I wasn't sure if they were communicating with each other, either. One seemed to be the hostess or maybe even the owner and seemed to be not quite with it. She had us order our beers but then came back a few minutes later and asked everyone how old we were. Kind of odd. All in all, I would not suggest coming back here but would also not be vehemently opposed if someone I was with wanted to come here. I could not help compare it to an establishment I often frequent across the river in Illinois, the Blue Cat Brew Pub. The Front Street Brewery mostly just reminded me how exceptional the Blue Cat is.

In town visiting my lady-tron and heard about Front Street Brewery via Beer Advocate. Went downtown and check the place out. They have a nice patio in the back and average sized rectangular bar with 6 or so taps.

Was greeted promptly by the bartender, Tony, who was a real nice and knowledgable character. He gave us a sample tray which consisted of a IPA, Stout, three wheats, Hefeweizen, and a "special" cranberry wheat.

The Raging River ale is a solid IPA. The Bucktown Stout has a smokey aroma and clean finish. The beers were average at best.

Positives were that the Growlers were only $12 and the environment was lax. Plus, Tony was a Green Bay Packers fan. Go Packers.

I was in this establishment on a Wednesday afternoon. When I arrived shortly before 5 PM it was mostly a business type of crowd. They had 5 regular beers on tap and a special brew. The special brew while I was there was a brown ale which I tried and will post my review here at some point. A friend and I sat at the bar initially. The bartender was very friendly. The brewpub is in an old style brick building along the river. Very quiet, it was actually nice and peaceful as there were enough people to make noise, but they didn't really. They have growlers available for take out and had a liquour bar for those in your party who might not want the beer. Reasonable prices and good happy hour specials. Our bartender was Ryan and he was terrific. . .knowledgable and friendly. He was very attentive to our needs. They offered samples of what you thought you might want to order before you ordered. I turned down a cherry ale via this method, but not because it was bad, just not my style. In addition to the old brick and exposed wood on the inside there was some newer drywall that gave a more modern feel but not totally new so it "fit" okay. After a couple of beers at the bar some other friends joined us and we got a table and dinner. The food was priced fairly well and was certainly edible. Everyone enjoyed their meal and it all looked good. The same great service continued at the table, so overall the service was a big bonus. It was defintely worth going to, but I wasn't able to hit any other establishments in the area as it had been a long day.

Very cute bar with free parking across the street. Old brick building with a real homey feel, and playing some really nice jazz to sit and drink to in the afternoon. Also, the only non-smoking place I hit in the Quad cities. Very comfortable, and the bartender was friendly and a good server, and knew the beers fairly well.

However, my overall of impression of the beer was low. Two locals seemed to have the same opinion, and ordered mixed drinks. The Old Gold was excessively cloudy, and the Raging River amber ale was astringent and tasted like hard water. Other beers, especially the Hefe, lacked body in the beers. The Bucktown Stout had a bit more body and was my favorite of the lot, though that's not a high opinion. Pretzel with nacho cheese was good, and better than at a ballpark.

Near the end of my short visit, a former local, now retired to Arizona, was stopping in with a friend for old times; according to him, the place has changed over the years and has lost some of its character and quality of beer. Overall, it seems like a really nice place with lots of potential that's maybe not being exploited.

Laid back atmosphere. Hippie guy tending bar/managing the place kept mentioning that they were gonna have a website up soon, that they might be relocating soon, and that, overall, things were a'changing. As for now, though: Laaaid back.

No smoking. Makes me happy. My friends, not so much. Aside from that, the atmosphere is like a normal bar--TVs with sporting events, bad music, etc. Maybe a bit less dimly lit than a regular bar. The clientele looked to be mostly middle class white people in their 30s and 40s.

Beers were hit or miss. Very basic selection: stout, hefe, blond, cherry, APA, along with a rotating selection. The rotater when I visited with an above par brown.

Food was surprisingly good and inexpensive. Pints and growlers ran about average brewpub price. Each new pint was served in a warm and dry glass and the bartender knew enough about each beer to talk about it. And he even had an issue of BA magazine for us to look at!

Overall, I'd say Bent River's probably a better bet if you're visiting the Quad Cities and must stop at one and only one brewpub. But, still, this place is not to be ignored.

Stopped by while home for the holidays. This is not a very big place but it is nicely decorated with wood booths and a somewhat small bar.

I had a burger and a Raging River Ale, the ale was a pretty good pale ale, nicely balanced. The burger was fine and the service was acceptable.

They don't really have a large selection of beers. There were five choices on the day I visited, and the Raging River Ale was the only one that seemed interesting.

This is a nice place but there are brewpubs with better beer across the river.

Since this place was located mere blocks from the bus station and I was not planning to pay for yet another motel room, this became my place to hunker down for the evening and wait for my early-morning bus back to Des Moines. It was within sight of the Mississippi River and was accessed by going up a couple of steps, passing through a unique passageway that actually overlooked the brewhouse, transiting up another short set of steps, passing through a doorway, and I was inside.

A cooler full of pre-filled growlers was the immediate left and the “U”-shaped wooden bar was to the immediate right. The space was pretty narrow, but they made the best of it. There was a bank of booths running down the left wall; a series of high tables and chairs running down the centerline; and the kitchen was off to the right, aft of the bar. The left wall was exposed brick and the ceiling was crosshatched wood and exposed ducting. Further aft, the table area expanded, but the passageway remained narrow. As I continued aft, the washrooms were on the right, with a glass cabinet filled with logo items to the left. All of the way aft, and through a doorway, was the back patio area.

The beers that were available that night were Old Davenport Gold; Raging River Ale; Cherry Ale; and Bucktown Stout. I went through all of them several times over during the course of my visit, but my pick was the Raging River Ale.

It turned out to be a good place to hang out. I met the cook; the head server; many of the regulars; some of the waitstaff, and was generally made to feel right at home. The one regular and I wrote some bad poetry and watched the 1993 remake of “The Fugitive” on TBS-TV, which helped to fill some of the time. It also inspired me to write a parody of the opening of the original television show, voiced by the late William Conrad. The parody will appear as part of the book that will recap this tour in greater detail.

Stopped into Front Street Brewery. It's a small place with emphasis on food (which I didn't try, but wish I had). They have a new beer, not yet listed: Raging River Ale. It was a quite respectable offering, a nicely hopped and balanced American Pale Ale. The bar seats only about 12, but the staff was pleasant and knowledgeable. There were 4 TVs (sports channels) and a limited but respectable assortment of spirits. Judging from what I saw, I'd recommend this place to any BA in eastern Iowa. It's just what craft brewing is all about - local fresh beer and food. Emphasis on local flavor.

Visited during the Christmas season. A bit difficult to fine as its in the middle of Davenport on a busy street next to the river with little parking around. A small, older, brick building, when first enter you can see some of the brewery on the lower basement level. The bar was small and not much on flair or tv’s. Nice to note on their menus a listing of the brewing process and their equipment downstairs.

Ordered a sampler. They had four regular brews (American Ale, ESB, Vienna Lager, Stout) and two seasonals (Holiday Pumpkin, Cherry Ale). Most were above average and I thought the ESB was the best.

The food was good. Had a soup and sandwich, was the special and reasonable priced as well. The staff was good. When I asked about beers our waitress was able to give some incite and knowledge of the beers. Its rare that they would have an idea on taste so that was appreciated.

Overall I enjoyed my experience and would recommend a visit to any one stopping by.

Overall a nice clean place, though it is a bit small. The service has always been reasonable when I have been there. The food is always good and the prices aren't to bad. Nice location down by the river as well. The beer is pretty ordinary for the most part, and the selection is very limited to standard fare, plus this last time I was there, they were out of the stout and the pale, my first 2 choices. That left a pilsner, a cherry lager, a hefe, and a cream lager. Nothing to get excited about. A nice place for lunch thats for sure, but not a great beer destination.

This place has a nice location along the river. Parking is free and convenient at the casino across the street. The atmosphere didn't do it for me. It was too small and cramped. While I was there at least a half a dozen groups of people came in to find no where to sit, and left. Albeit I was there during happy hour, this sort of thing shouldn't happen to that many people at anytime. The service was prompt and friendly. The selection was a big disappointment. They had five staples and one seasonal, but they where out of there APA (which is what I wanted). The three beers that I did have (cherry ale, stout, and hefe) were all clean brews, but rather thin. The food was the brightest part of my experience at Front Street. There were a lot of families with little children in the pub during my visit, so I think it is safe to say that most people stop in for the food.
