Munich Helles Lager |  4.80% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Its head is firm and fine pored. Its aroma is pure and fresh from the cellar, with soft malty accents imbued with floral hoppiness.

Its light and soft body leaves a pleasant, tangy taste in the mouth. The mild sweetness marries well with the velvety bitterness of the hops. It concludes on a rounded, harmonious note.

Andechser Vollbier Hell is therefore a classical Bavarian Vollbier.

16oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

(A)- Pours a pale yet clear straw yellow color. Some good white froth and lacing.

(S)- A nice dry but grainy aroma. Slight biscuit and honey sweetness in the background.

(T)- Again, a slight dry grainy aspect but with this really crisp yet smooth honey biscuit character. Ever so slight grassiness at the end.

(M)- Light and dry yet ever so slightly sweet. Great carbonation level and a crisp yet refreshing quality.

(O)- A really nice crisp and refreshing beer for summer. Great traditional beers like this get lost with all the big sours and barrel aged monsters coming out of everywhere.

@ Atwoods, Somerville MA

Stepped outside myself and ordered a beer with the tap handle I liked best. It was white with a brilliant lizard green country scene.

Gold with a white head and an eye catching tap handle for whatever that's worth. Doughy and slightly grassy floral aroma. Tastes spring-y green apple and and honey. Full, plush body. I've had a few good lagers lately (Tarnation comes to mind) but this is the best of the bunch.

The good tap handle =good beer theory works. Sometimes.

One finger starting head but it settles quickly and leaves nearly no lace (just a couple of spots). The liquid is light gold and nearly clear.

Creamy corn aroma. Grainy and a bit sweet.

Leans to the malty side with a cross between grain and pale malts. Decent hop in the swallow. The aftertaste is brief and leaves a milky taste in my mouth. Quite rich for the style, low carbonation.

Poured into a Schaumburger pilsner glass. Pours a light golden amber with a half finger white head with good retention due to active carbonation, moderate lacing. Aroma of bready with hints of biscuit malt, grassy hops and lemon. Flavor is slightly sweet bready and biscuit malt, grassy, slightly peppery hops, light citrus and a touch of wheat. A nice, lingering light lemon, hop and malt aftertaste to the finish. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation. A light, pleasant helles lager that hits all the right notes. Flavor is not intense, but appropriate for the style. A very nice beer for drinking with a meal for non intrusive malt and hops. Sessionable.

Super hot day, this should go down nicely.

Pours crystal clear, golden pilsner color, some bubbles streaming up to reinforce the thick creamy 1+ finger head that never seems to go away, like a thick rich creamy solid white mass head that leaves lots of foamy lacing, that leaves nice notches as I sip too.

Nose is pretty much like a nice pilsner, toasty pilsner malts, grainy, a nice soft decoction like layered complex malt base, with a nice soft lager note underneath, very faint grassy noble hop note.

Taste is more of the same, as expected from a true German Bavarian Lager. Soft layered malts, decoction most likely, nice complexity in the malts, soft, little grainy, nice toasty pilsner malts, so soft it just flows over the tongue like a liquid pillow. Hops come through a bit more this time, mild to a bit bigger bitterness overall, with a nice grassy noble hop flavor. Soft but crisp lager character too, very faint minerality, and touch of a lager like fruity note. Finish is crisp and soft, quite dry, bit more grassy noble hop bitterness.

Mouth is lighter bod, nice soft pillowy feel, great carb.

Overall what I expected it to be, a great German Bavarian lager, light and drinkable with plenty of complex flavors, lighter complex flavors but still all there, nice hop profile, etc. I could drink beers like this all day and not feel a thing.

500mL into a weizen glass. Pours a pure crystal clear golden color w/ a fluffy white head, bright lively carbonation. Looks great.

Aroma is light and floral, mildly grainy.

Taste is a delicate balance of clean crisp water, pale malt, and floral Old World hops. Straightforward and unadorned, but certainly not lacking in complexity or craftsmanship. Refreshing and drinkable.

Mouthfeel is soft and light, but no watery. Matches the subtle taste profile expertly.

Overall a very nice, refreshing lager that I could drink all day long.
