Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: BeerIsland on 11-18-2013

Its head is firm and fine pored. Its aroma is pure and fresh from the cellar, with soft malty accents imbued with floral hoppiness.

Its light and soft body leaves a pleasant, tangy taste in the mouth. The mild sweetness marries well with the velvety bitterness of the hops. It concludes on a rounded, harmonious note.

Andechser Vollbier Hell is therefore a classical Bavarian Vollbier.

Binny's - Willowbrook

Vollbier is lemon yellow with a glow so bright it's like staring into the sun. Clarity is near perfect and large carbonation rushes to the surface. A crackling, fizzy white head easily rises to to two fingers in height eventually settling but to nothing short of a finger. Spotty lacing clings here and there with each tilt of the glass. This is how a helles should look.

The nose is rich and reeks of German craftsmanship. Barley smells as if it was just husked and freshly cracked, very bright and clean. An underlying, soft, bready sweetness compliments the graininess well. A note of grassy noble hops wrap it all up into a tidy little basket. When I think of beer in the all encompassing sense of "beer" this is what I picture it smelling like.

Malty sweetness leads the way in the flavor department. That clean, white bread sweetness sets the base while delicious, clean, crisp husked barley adds pop and zest. There even seems to be a lemon brightness. The hop profile remains soft and grassy but there's a faint touch of florals as well. This beer can be drank by the gallon.

A light body washes over the tongue before zesty carbonation picks up the pace. The carbonation is enough that it leaves a prickliness along the sides of the tongue. Soft sweetness lingers briefly on the swallow before a long, drawn out drying leaves me parched, needing more.

Andech's Helles, whether on tap or in the bottle, is a sheer joy to drink. It's all sunshine and rainbows. Crisp, bright, delicious. Grab yourself a .5 liter and drink up, ladies! (1,579 characters)

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle into a pilsener glass.

A: The beer is a light yellow color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains grain, lager yeast, light caramelized malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of lager yeast, grain and a thin malt character that is quickly followed by some malt sweetness. The hops presence is very mild but complementary and brings good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, very good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a long time if you’re in the mood for a lighter German-style lager. (815 characters)

I got this at Bierkraft in Brooklyn while picking up a wet hop Blue Point bottle. This refreshing and tasty beer is very bright in the glass poured from the 500 ml bottle. Golden hay notes overlay the malt nose. Great balanced flavor with plenty of heft for a helles. Even better as it warms up. This is a very well made, extremely enjoyable beer. (347 characters)

Pale straw gold, rapid carbonation visible. Billowing foam settles to a clingy, soapy white collar after a few minutes. Bright clarity, maybe the slightest haze towards the end of the bottle.

Aromas of minerals, grass, and fresh bread.

Bready malt, lemon pith, quenching with a dry grassy finish. Very clean, Light bodied, crisp and well carbonated. It has a prototypical and flawless Helles blueprint. Very drinkable and worth trying if you like the style. (459 characters)

Time to finally review this, as had had before many times but never gotten around to it. Poured from the bottle into a Libbey style pilsner glass.

Deep lemon and bright glimmering brass body, even looks like it has a hue of green to it as well. Perfect amount of carbonation rising from the bottom, fine some larger, some slow some fast. Head is soapy just bleach white but makes about two fingers tall, and hangs around only to dissolve shortly after. Manages a thick soapy collar.

Classic German nose. Dense malt and bakery thick qualities, hints at even some cantalopue like fruit sensations, almost kind of fresh melon. Nice density with a bit of sticky yeast quality but subdued enough to not be distracting. Seems more like a standard German pils than a lighter helles lager.

Palate though just brings the simple goods. Light crisp notes with just a hint of sticky yeast. Mild finish of lime and perhaps a bit of lemon zest poking out. Excellent crisp body, chewy quality mouthfeel as well. Excellent melding of flavors and balance matching hops and light malt density. Bright as all that can be.

A fantastic helles. (1,138 characters)

Draft at Bittercreek... Surprised to see this one... Very clear light golden with a short lived white head... Grainy pils malt and light spicy hoppiness are the key descriptors here... A little sweetness to take this out of the German Pils area and not nearly as hoppy or bitter... Nearly perfect for the style... Very happy I stopped in at BC tonight.

Bottle purchased at Nathaniel Square Corner Store in Rochester, NY>

Pours a very clear golden yellow- when the sun shines on this one, it becomes the most brilliant golden sun color. Looks like a glass of sunshine. There's a half inch head, and not much lacing.

Smells pretty nice, grassy and floral hops. Subtle but nice aroma.

This tastes great, and shows that subtlety is sometimes needed in beer. Crisp, bready malts, soft floral and grassy hop flavors, some fruitiness from the yeast. Really tasty stuff.

This one is light bodied, with a very clean and crisp mouthfeel, and a medium amount of carbonation.

Probably the best Helles I've ever had, really quite pleasant. (678 characters)

Poured into a Schaumburger pilsner glass. Pours a light golden amber with a half finger white head with good retention due to active carbonation, moderate lacing. Aroma of bready with hints of biscuit malt, grassy hops and lemon. Flavor is slightly sweet bready and biscuit malt, grassy, slightly peppery hops, light citrus and a touch of wheat. A nice, lingering light lemon, hop and malt aftertaste to the finish. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation. A light, pleasant helles lager that hits all the right notes. Flavor is not intense, but appropriate for the style. A very nice beer for drinking with a meal for non intrusive malt and hops. Sessionable. (665 characters)
