Characterised by its firm and fine pored head. Even before the first sip, the beer epicure will register the soft aromas of dark malt carrying caramel and cocoa accents with a nuance of smokiness.
Andechser Export Dunkel is pleasantly tangy with a full, round, malty body. The nuance of quality plain chocolate marries well with the soft bitterness of the smoky undertone.
It concludes on a mild, harmonious note.

Had this on tap while in Germany at the Wiesbaden Rathaus.
A nice dunkel with plenty of malt, roasted nuts, chocolate and coffee.
The taste was similar to the aromas and the mouthfeel was very smooth and creamy. Very drinkable.
I wish I could have tried all the Andechser beers at this place but unfortunately could only get through three. Next time...

Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...

50cl bottle, bb in 2 weeks, so old already.
Dark clear copper. Light beige medium head, leaving medium persistent lace.
Nose is dark sweet bread and overall grainy notes.
In the taste dark caramel coated bread dominates, leaving grainy medium length aftertaste, with soft roasted and bitter notes fading smoothly. Everything a bit less sweet and dark than your standard dunkel.
A good understated lighter and drier version of dunkel. More drinkable, just wish this had just a bit more material.

On-tap at Andechser Mannheim, Mannheim, Germany
A: The beer is brown when viewed from afar but upon closer inspection the beer is clear and very dark red in color with a moderate amount of carbonation. It poured with a half finger high off white head that died down, leaving a patch of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of fruity yeast and dark malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste starts off with flavors of dark malts and a bit of sweetness and has notes of fruity yeast and wheat.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is a little maltier compared to other beers in the style.
Serving type: on-tap

If you ever have an opportunity to visit Kloster Andechs, outside of Munich, so so.
A liter of this and a liter of the lighter lager, and you don't want to drive home.

Very balanced between the munich malt and herbal hops. Drinkable. Unfortunately the smell is much more appreciable than the taste. It's a rare style but it's an interessant one

This dunkel pours a brown color with a deep ruby tint. It has a somewhat high amount of carbonation and a thin white head. The smell is highly malty with a sweet caramel scent. The taste like the smell is malt heavy with flavors of caramel and dark chocolate dominating. It is sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. This has a medium body, similar to their dopplebock, but in this case that body is more appropriate. It’s definitely not as complex as the dopplebock, but the flavors in my opinion are more cohesive and I actually prefer it. This is an excellent dunkel. Probably one of the best examples of the style that I’ve had in fact.
