Located in the ever-growing town of Webster (eastside suburb of Rochester) is Hegedorn’s market on Ridge Rd. (not to be mistaken with W. Ridge or E. Ridge Rd.). The folks here, particularly BA david23, have really stepped up to the plate and beefed up the beer selection. You want quality American micros? Well God bless America they got ‘em. Off the top off my head - Bear Republic, Stone, Smutty, Southern Tier, Ommegang, Ithaca, Victory, Shipyard, Cooperstown, Sea Dog, Lake Placid, Otter Creek, Wolavers, Anchor, Sierra Nevada, Brooklyn, Left Hand, North Coast, Harpoon, Sprecher, MacTarnahan's, Riverhorse, Custom Brewcrafters and Rohrbach growlers and many more quality domestic and imported craft brews. The majority of which are stored in the cooler. The selection is geared toward domestic micros, which is fine by me. There are a few Belgians to be had (Duvel comes to mind). German and English brews and other imports tend to be mainstream with a few exceptions. Prices are very reasonable and certain selections are on special weekly. Unless David is there, those who need it probably won’t find someone there to help make a selection but they get service bonus points from me for actually listening to and utilizing customer suggestions regarding which brews to carry. On my last visit 1 June, there happened to be a space cleared out in the cooler for what I suspect might just be some more great beers. The local craft brew scene is particularly healthy at the moment and Hegedorn’s is a vital contributor. I recommend stopping by, making a purchase and helping the continued well being of the local craft beer cause. Travelers on NY route 104 should know this place is just a stone’s throw south of the Hard Rd. exit.

As stated by others, this place is a "sleeper". It is a locally owned grocery store with a great beer section and most importantly a great "beer guy"(david23). The great reviews are more because of the person than the business or the building. David keeps us aware of his new arrivals so that we can know when fresh beer is in town. He also will try to fill any special requests. I make the drive past many stores to shop here. Although it is not the largest selection in town, it has a higher percentage of good beer than most. It is also a pretty good family food store also. Give it a try sometime!!

Hegedorn's is one of the best stops for beer shoppers in the Rochester area. Great selection, fresh beer, reasonable prices, and a beer manager who cares about the customers. Hegedorn's offers one of the widest selections of beer in the city at far more reasonable prices than the competition. If you're in the area looking for beer, including limited release craft beers, definitely check this place out, I can't recommend them enough, and you can even do your grocery shopping at the same time!

You'd never know that Hegedorn's in Webster, NY is a great beer store just by driving past it but one should never judge a book by its cover. I sure never knew when I was growing up in Webster but when I finally checked it out I wasn't disappointed. Now I make it a point to stop in whenever I'm home.

Tucked away in this unassuming grocery store is a tremendous selection of beer. There are a myriad of six packs available from all the big boys and tons of bombers and single bottles as well. From Dogfish to Stone to Goose Island to Rochefort to Firestone Walker to Troegs to Southern Tier, this place has an absolutely great selection for the Rochester area. Their prices are also much better than Wegmans or BOTW. However, what makes this place so great is the beer manager Dave (David23 here on BA). Dave is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the beer being sold in his store. He has made many a solid recommendation to me when I'm in the mood to try something new. Also, Dave understands us BA's because he is one. He sends out beer mails whenever he is getting something special in because he shares the same passion as us. So I suggest you stop into Hegedorn's and ask for Dave or send him a BM. You won't be disappointed.

Having grown up in Rochester, and my grandparents living 2 miles from the middle of Webster, I shopped at Hegedorn's alot. When I got into craft beer, they joined into the growing trend and developed into one of the premiere places to get craft beer in Western New York.

Dave is always attentive to requests for certain beers. If they are available from the local distributors, he always does his best to fill them.

With Beers of the World having 2 locations, and Wegman's building a significant craft beer section in most of the larger stores, its nice to have another alternative. The staff is always very attentive and will answer what questions they can. They also destroy local competition's price.

Now that I've moved to Ohio, I always make a stop in to get the beers I can't get at home. Its never a disappointing stop.

Having lived in Rochester most of my life, people would often tell me about how Hegedorn's was a nice alternative to the larger local grocery stores. It wasn't until I was contacted (through BA) by the person who manages the beer at the store that I took the time to check it out. It was worth the trip.

To be honest, my expectations were pretty low. It was a small store and I never imagined they would reserve much shelf space for craft beer. In fact, they have an entire aisle dedicated to beer (both BMC and craft) plus a couple of large end caps, and numerous displays/stacks in the general area.

You can tell by looking at the selection that the beer manager David cares about what he stocks. I can appreciate that the larger grocery stores have craft available, but the selection is predictable and I am rarely surprised by what I find on the shelf. The prices are almost always better at Hegedorn's as well. There's no markup for rarity either.

Since I've dealt with David I can see the difference is that he knows what to ask for and is willing to fight to get the few cases of limited releases that we usually get in this area...and he is often successful. I used to think that Rochester didn't get the limited stuff, so finding Hegedorn's has been an eye-opening experience.

I recommend that you check it out yourself and say hi to David while you're there.

First and foremost, Hegedorn's is my favorite beer spot in Rochester. It's a grocery store with a hugely impressive beer selection. Yes, we have two Beers of the World stores here but Hegedorn's has better prices AND has new releases out on the selling floor so much faster.

The beer manager David (david23) really, seriously cares about the selection in the department and it really shows. He keeps people on BA up-to-date with what's coming in and when; how awesome is that? I've never experienced service that great!

I've found some excellent gems at Hegedorn's, very likely because it's a little off the beaten path. There is a great selection of Belgian beers (including the best price I've ever seen for Rochefort 10 outside of Belgium) and an even larger selection from domestic craft breweries.

Do yourself a favor and visit Hegedorn's!!!

This is a beer destination if your's in Rochester. It's a grocery store with a beer manager who cares about the customer and loves good beer.

Dave always keeps BA Buddies up to day on whats on the shelf and whats coming in and charges everyone fairly for the products.
He even will take names for some of the "rarer" offerings.

It's also right off the expressway which makes it a quick stop for a sixer or something to drink for the evening. Also grab a steak or some produce while your's there :)

Cheers to Hegadorns.

this is a very good store, cheaper than the other alternative in rochester ny, hegedorns is a grocery store with a very decent selection, needed help finding something and the manager came out and helped me immediately and stuck around so we could talk beer for bit, great place to find vintages because nothing there moves too fast(in a good way), markups are very reasonable, the local distributors seem to hold this place high for good reason. very nice place but should expand the selection a bit more
