A - Midnight black, glossy tan head, sheet lacing.
S - Dark chocolate, dark fruit, caramel, coffee.
T - Bitter dark chocolate with a coffee tint, flowing on to roasted malt flavours and finishing with earthy floral notes and a lasting mocha on the tongue.
M - Medium body for a stout, smooth and low carbonation.
O - Very smooth and extremely drinkable for the 11.5% abv. Quality RIS from the guys at Feral.

Hipster glass at Frankies.
Matt black appearance. Tan foam with spotty lacing. Foam sitting as thin film.
Smells of dairy milk chocolate and licorice and plenty of the latter. Not overly inviting until the licorice backs off later on.
Taste hits you with licorice and way too much of it. Fortunately it becomes a chocolate bomb later on to kill off the licorice a bit. Lot of milk chocolate in the end with a touch of roasted malt.
Harshness to begin with from the licorice bite. Then smooths out with the chocolate but becomes cloying as my mouth fills with chocolate.
Disappointing. Missing a lot of coffee and roasted malt flavour. Really enjoyed this on nitro a few years ago. Maybe I've changed, or the beer?

Pours pitch black with a quickly fading dark tan head.
Nose shows heavy roast, liquorice and milk chocolate. Not overly complex.
Very roasty flavours, but with some cocoa and a fair bit of sweetness. Again, not all that complex.
Lovely creamy carbonation.

Drank from my Chimay chalice. This is the 9% bottled version brewpub series.
A - Pours a deep engine oil colour with a nice biscuit tanned head that retains well and laces
S - Aromas of sweet brown sugar cookie dough and malt
T - Up front plenty of smooth dark malts, not much coffee, chocolate or anything really. It is very smooth and balanced and no dominant flavours.
M - Full body and low carbonation.Hits the mark !
O - Most Impy stouts have a dominant tone of coffee or chocolate, this is not like that. It is very smooth and easy to drink with the ABV nowhere to be seen. Recommended

Had on tap at the Feral Tap Takeover at Local Taphouse in Sydney
A-- Pitch black, nearly nitro looking in appearance. Has a nice looking appearance. Head is mocha colored and at best 1/4 of an inch. Head really sat at about 1/4 inch the entire time, maybe half a finger on swirling. Very little carbonation shown on this.
S-- Roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits and black licorice. Once it warmed up got spicy floral hops in this and Carmel also opened up on this. Hints of cherries at times.
T-- Burnt coffee, burnt malts, fresh black licorice, very dark molasses, near burnt carmel and vanilla extract. Sweet tasting and very over roasted.
M-- In the front black licorice, more burnt coffee and malts and Carmel. Does recover in the mid to back with a bit of milk chocolate feel (tasted nitro at that point) but really dominated by burnt and licorice flavors. Once it warmed up the floral hops kicked and and added another dimension of odd characters. Just did not mix well to me. Floral mixed with burnt coffee and licorice?. Finished dry and clean with a bit of licorice finish. Medium bodied and heavy feel.
O-- Got 3/4's through and gave up. Too odd a mixture of flavors for me. Burnt coffee and malts, black licorice and floral flavors just did not mix well to me. ABV is very well hidden but just totally out of balance and at times too syrupy sweet to deal with. My least liked of all Australian RIS's that I have had. Made me appreciate Avery the Kaiser.

Pours a very dark mahogany with amazing guinnessy nitro head. Beautiful creamy and beige but actually kind of grey; retains well. Great cascade at first pour, then settles down and leaves some huge sticky lace behind. Pretty beautiful.
Smells pretty dark and chocolatey, quite spicy as well but with lots of floral hpps coming from it with rosewater and some phenolic notes as well. Cherry even? Pretty nice, good balance between sweet and spicy.
Taste is sweet and chocolatey with a lot of nice sweet, roasty but not very bitter flavours. No charred remains, more tangy notes at the end with a hint of cherry fruit and lychee. Mostly that sweet cocoa-rich chocolate. Nitro edge gives it a rich creamy feel and tames the finish, making it taste like rich caramel custard a bit. Nice roasty undertones temper the potentially dangerous sweet character nicely. Good balance, pretty damn nice
Yeah, creamy on the feel, a bit lacking in oomph though. Texture is a bit thin.
Yeah flavours are quite gentle and it's very palatable indeed, especially for the strength. Very well constructed.

On tap at the Local Taphouse. Almost looks like a nitro-pour with the creamy, creamy, silky and velvety head. Body is a deep dark black, quite opaque, but the head is a joy to behold. Good cascade in the head during the pour, and lots of static carbonation when swirled. Really excellent.
Nose is surprisingly fruity, with some hops cascading over a rich chocolate note. Roasted notes are dusty but with a sweet grain character. Nice.
Taste is smooth and dark, lots of chocolate on the fore, with an odd bitterness which seems to straddle the characters of charred roastedness and clear alpha hoppiness. Almost a pronounced IPA bitterness running through it. Perhaps mingled with this is the heat - it's hard to taste the booze (exceptionally well hidden if it genuinely is 11.5%), but there's something lightly astringent on the back.
Can't fault the mouthfeel though, which is glossy and rich.
Very drinkable, and very, very smooth; exceptionally so for the purported 11.5% alcohol - it felt far less than that. A very nice Impy Stout - probably one of the better ones I've had from Aus.

Tulip at Great Northern for the WA Tap Takeover.
A - Pours black with nice streaky carbonation. Some bubbles cling to the side. Creamy coffee ice cream head at one finger. Spotty lace with lot's of rings as well. One finger of retention.
S - Chocolate and coffee with a nice roasted note, coffee beans.
T - Chocolate, cream, chocolate milk, chocolate/coffee ice cream.
M - Really creamy, medium carbonation, not as big of a body as expected, but still leans towards the heavier end of the scale, sweet-ish in the finish and dry.
O/D - A pretty pleasant Imperial Stout. Lot's of chocolate/coffee ice cream flavour in it. One of the better Oz Imp. Stouts. Insanely easy to drink.

Reviewing from notes
A: Thick nitro pour that takes a while to settle. Tan head. Mega lacing. Black as night.
S: Mega hop bomb (head brewer Brendan Varis tells me loads of Chinook was used for dry hopping). Also slightly like freshly shaved dark chocolate.
T: Big, bitter, roasty, dark chocolaty, awesome. Not undelicious.
M: Silky, thick, and creamy from the nitro. A very slight dryness - just enough to make you want more.
D: Dangerously drinkable. One of my favourite beers when fresh. I spoke to Brendan Varis about how I liked the dry hop character of this batch, and he said that we were meant to get a much older keg, but somebody screwed up along the way and he had to send a fresh batch (around 11 days old) instead. Best mistake ever.

I love the new brew pub series and about time Boris was bottled bring on watermelon warhead anyways back to boris and with a gentle pour it comes out like dirty motor oil with a milk chocolate laced two finger head and clingy lacing,the smell is tobacco,Irish coffee,a mechanics workshop,dark chocolate and stewed plums,the mouthfeel is full bodied but not thick and creamy as hoping and the carbonation is spot on not being overcarbonated but not under either and the tastes are dark chocolate malts,a slight hint of booze,chocolate coated plums,rich dark coffee,some vanilla sweetness and finished with a herbal hoppy slightly fruity roasty bitterness and overall yeah it's nice and couldn't be happier this has been bottled but the fussy bugger in me and massive raps this cops had me expecting something abit more sublime but would drink again cheers.

On tap as a sampler at brewery.
Pours pitch Black 'n' tan, the 2 finger head fills taster glass. Lacing present, difficult to tell due to small glass how clingy.
Aromas of choc mainly, subdued.
Taste is soon integrated and smooth, no rough edges, wow, and off tap that is amazing, seems to have been well aged before serving. On comparison to other Aus RISs I have had on tap this is streets ahead. There are elements of mils chocolate and a hint of coffee, but really, this is Stout flavoured.
Mouthfeel smooth and sublime.
Sensational RIS, amazingly well made.

On tap at The Local Taphouse. Left to warm for 10 minutes or so.
A - Poured from the tap into a snifter style glass a pitch black colour with a 2 centimetre dark tan head than slowly falls away to a .5cm layer on top.
S - Sweet dark chocolate, dark fruit and caramel.
There is some floral hops that come through as the beer warms.
T - Chocolate fudge sweetness, dark fruit touches, some roasty hints and a bit of warming alcohol.
M - Quite a syrupy, sticky full body, minimal carbonation.
D - A very impressive Imperial Stout. Intensely flavoured & something I'd drink again. However I would not be drinking heaps in one sitting.
