This is a good european style pale lager. It's not bad, but not great either. This bottle was somewhat skunky, thanks to the green bottle, but I like the bitterness of euro lagers, so I was willing to give it a pass. First beer from New Zealand, and somewhat unremarkable. I'd drink another if someone gave it to me, but I wouldn't seek it out.

Pours a clean golden color and topping it is about two finger of white head which dissipates quite quickly.
There is the familiar mild hoppy aroma with perhaps some grains complementing it.
The taste is light, crisp. Some initial (mils) sweetness is followed by a nicely balanced body with slightly bitter finish.
Nothing special about this one, just your typical refreshing and drinkable lager.

12oz bottle poured into a lager glass.

A: Clear golden color. Rocky white head holds at a half inch. Lots of sticky and stubborn lacing.

S: Grainy with a hint of toast. Dry herbal hopping.

T: Grainy and toasty malt base. Perhaps a thin suggestion of caramel. Grape skin and vague fruit. Herbal hops have a slight oily spice to them. Metallic. Grainy and lightly toasted finish.

M: Lightish medium body. Somewhat firm and round. Mild hop astringency gently rakes the tooth enamel. High carbonation.

O: Not terrible. It's slightly above average in the Euro Lager category. The hop taste and bitterness are a little more aggressive than is the norm for the style.

First review in a while. My liquor store had big bottles of this on sale this week, so I picked one up. Apparently this is different from the Steinlager Pure that we also sell. Let's see how it compares.

Aroma is hoppy, grassy and a little skunky. Not nearly as skunky as something like Heineken though, despite both coming in green bottles.

Appearance is straightforward - nice fizz, lots of bubbles rushing up the middle of the glass. The head is pretty weak and dissipates really quickly.

Not sure what to make of the taste. It's a bit hoppy and the skunkiness is coming through, but it is fairly easy drinking. It has an almost soapy finish. It's really odd and not something that I usually get from a euro lager.

Pass for me, nothing to see. Get the Steinlager Pure instead, if you can find it - It's very superior to this.

its the Bud of New Zealand. in Oklahoma its here today and gone tomorrow. really. they cant keep it on the shelves and have a hard time finding it to replenish it. there are a few beer Pubs that carry it, and thats where you have to go to get it because the Liquor Stores don't carry it all the time. and did i tell you thats its a perfect all around beer...

Drank from the 330mL can in Shanghai China.

A: Drank from the can so can't say much.

S: Light and crisp with lots of grass, some hay, some citrus in there and some vegetal.

T: Very typical. Crackery malt holding up just barely a wet veggie and lightly sweet character. Not too bad I guess.

Overall: Just about as average as it comes for this style. You can picture it in your mind before you drink it, and then what do you know - exactly that. Although I guess in some ways that's not a bad thing?

Appearance: Pale yellow with moderate head and lacing.

Smell: Corn and grain.

Taste: Corn, grain, lemon.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied, dry, slight lemon aftertaste.

The Verdict: Average. A drinkable yet forgettable lager, pretty much like any mass produced swill from the big brewers.
