This was my favorite beer at the St Louis Microfest.

Had a deep brown, almost black appearance. There was very little head on my sample. Got strong aroma of toffee. Very light bodied but a big flavor that was like a bittersweet chocolate that was nicely balanced with hop goodness. It was nice mix of sweet and bitter.

Pours a very dark brown, basically black, but with some amber hued edges. It was presented to me with no head.

The aroma is fairly weak. The malt profile comes off as sweet up front with a faint caramel and chocolate, pretty typical 23rd St malting.

The taste is really nice. The malting seems slightly roasty, almost burnt with a bit of smoke. Notes of bitter chocolate and a slight coffee tone come through. A really solid addition to the lineup.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, but seems kind of watery at times. Seems to have a bit of a dry finish.

Drinkability is high. It's a great Porter IMO and a solid beer for their lineup. I hope it makes it's say through the lines more often. This one was a success.

Growler filled on Friday afternoon and enjoyed on Saturday...

Appearance: Pours a opaque brownish-black with a little bit of tan head that quickly dissipates. There's a bit of lacing as well, but overall this beer doesn't appear to be super carbonated.

Smell: Chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts all the way. It smells a little spicy as well. Some notes of vanilla and some sweeter caramels seem to round it out.

Taste: The roasted malt flavors of chocolate and coffee dominate on the first taste. The roasted oats and grains are definitely present in this beer. The website mentions plum, but I'm struggling to find any of that. The residual sweetness seems more in line with a toffee caramel than any plum flavorings.

Mouthfeel: This is a very chewy, creamy porter. It envelops the tongue on first contact, and it refuses to let it go. This is definitely one of the smoother porters I've had in a while.

Drinkability: This is a very drinkable brew. The only way that this could be improved is if the beer were fresher. The gal who filled the growler, filled it on a direct pour with no lean or anything. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the carbonation issues I'm experiencing as less than 24 hours in a properly filled and sealed growler should have minimal impact if at all.
