This place is sort of a drive for me, an hour at least. But you know what it is well worth it. Chuck's with out a doubt THE premiere beer shop in the greater Cleveland area.
First off is the selection at this place is like none I've ever seen. Bottles all over the floor, in boxes of course but none the less. Belgians all over the wall. another wall that is a cooler, full of ready to drink items. It really is the best place to find beers.
The service there is great as well. Only if you can get past the pompousness of the staff. The kinda think they are better than you , which can get kind of annoying. Of course Im only kidding. These guys are great. They are exceedingly knowledgeable and are willing to talk all day long about beer.
If you ask me, and since you are reading this you are probably are looking for some input. This is it in Cleveland.

If you are looking for Eurpoean imports, Chucks is outstanding. They have a large selection and restock often.

American craft beers are hit or miss. They do a nice job of always carrying the Midwest standards - Great Lakes, bells, founders, hopping frog, brew kettle, new Belgium, etc. They don't really get (m)any of the limited releases though from said breweries. Pricing is very fair.

The gems? Occasionally you can find a non-distributed beer thanks to their loyal customers who may drop one off after an out of town trip.

Food is limited to cheese, sausage and really is more of a small grocery. Very good cheese.

Staff is great. They really know their wine. I would not consider them beer geeks at all but they will help you track something down. They aren't going to know what bcbs or hf stand for, though. Very friendly.

After reading about Chuck's on here decided to make the drive down to check it out. I have never been to Chagrin Falls and have to say it is a really nice area. Bring the wife (or husband) and send them off shopping while you visit Chuck's. Atmosphere is really nice in the store, staff is friendly and helpful. Was a little disappointed with the selection of singles. Expected a bit more than what they had. Prices on a singles are a bit marked up compared to other shops. Imports are the draw for Chuck's, unfortunately I didn't get to check out the vault and will have to do that on another visit.

Chuck's Fine Wines is located in the heart of Chagrin Falls right off of Main Street. Because of this, finding the store without a GPS may be a bit difficult for those unfamiliar with the area as it is located quite a distance from the closest highways. There is not a lot of room for parking which can be a little problematic during peak hours or when there are multiple deliveries.

The store itself is rather quaint and has a rather rustic, welcoming feel to it. The creaky hardwood floors and ambient lighting definitely make it feel more like a mom 'n pop store rather than a money-grubbing company. The beer section is a bit chaotic with a well organized self-feed cooler, a large wall with a great selection of imports, and lines of table displays showing off random products. Books and glassware are also littered throughout the store and displayed in random areas with little recognizable reasoning.

The selection is pretty good. Given the size of the store, the lack of some staples is understandable. However, this isn't the kind of store that stocks every Founders and Great Lakes product available (although they do have the majority of their catalogs). The real appeal lies in the store's great selection of imports (La Chouffe, Orkney, Hitachino, etc.) as well as the vault.

The vault is located inside the self-feeding cooler and is accessed from the backroom. Please note that it is normally best to ask to see the vault as opposed to walking back there on your own. The vault is where beers are kept that aren't supposed to be sold at this location (beers not distributed here and beers with ABVs above the 12% state maximum). Entering the vault is usually a random experience. Sometimes you can find Oskar Blues Ten Fidy, other times you find some New Belgium Fat Tire. But the not knowing is what makes it so fun (like opening Christmas presents).

The prices of the six-packs is about on par with similar stores. However, the prices on the import singles is a bit marked up. Also, the prices on any of the specially available items in the vault are marked up a bit (and understandably so).

The products available are usually within date (except for some of the items in the vault) and are maintained well despite the seemingly chaotic organization. Little dust can be noticed on the products (even the ones that probably aren't the best sellers).

The workers are always warm and friendly and will always greet a customer as he/she walks through the door. They will usually allow an appropriate amount of time before asking if you need help and are always willing to offer recomendations when asked. They do not get caught up in long conversations but are obviously happy to help and converse briefly.

Chuck's is for sure the place to go in the Cleveland area if you want to find good beer. The "Swami of Suds", as they call him over there, Mike, is a super nice guy, knows a good amount about beer and is in touch with beer people all across the country. There is a bunch of stuff out in the open but if you really want rare stuff ask to go back in the fridgerated room. I've bought brews by Epic (Utah), De Dolle (Belgium), Schloss Eggenberg (Vienna), Alesmith (California) and some other random ones. You'll probably find something you've never had before.

Mike usually has one or two beers from Three Floyds! Cheers!

Located in a beautiful area of Chagrin Falls. Very friendly staff with a great knowlege of beer. You can head into the back into the cooler and take a peak at things that may not be out on the shelves. Prices are what you would expect. Very good selection. Have been able to find a few gems every now and then. One of the few locations in Ohio where I was able to find Terrapin Brewing beers. My wife and I make an evening of it, by heading to Chucks, then enjoying dinner at one of Chagrins cozy little spots.

This is a great place to buy beer or just browse. Wide selection of beer and wine. Also they make homemade cheese and bread but I have not tried the cheese. As everyone else states the selection of beer is huge and employees are willing to help, especially mike the beer man as I call him. My last purchase came with a free homemade pepperonni roll which was very good. Their is also alot of shops and cafes within walking distance from chucks. This is a shop you have to see if your in the area, or if your 45 minutes away like me.

This is a must go if you are in the Chagrin Falls area. Let me restate that, it is a must go if you are anywhere within 100 miles of Chagrin Falls. The store has a great selection of imports and micros. My favorite micros include Bells, Founders, and Great Divide. Just moved here from Colorado and have found micros from Oskar Blues, Ska, ODells, and Avery.
The "beer guy" Mike is also very knowledgeable and a conversation with this guy is a must. He will introduce you to beers that are spectacular, many of which I had not heard of before. One of the best places I have found since I have moved to Cleveland 3 months ago.

Well, luckily this place is pretty close to a relatives house, so I had to stop since I was around.

Fantastic selection of brew, especially imports/Belgians. I finally found some Drie Fonteinen, which I have been curious about for quite some time. Also make sure you have a nice chat with Mike, the beer guy here. He is highly knowledgeable in beer, and actually recommended some brew for me to try that I actually didn't know existed. Checked the ratings here to see where they stood and they were both high A-. So the service here is definitely top notch for sure, plenty of help with whatever I was looking for. I will have to get some more suggestions next time I am in there again.

Of course as mentioned in other reviews, they let me know about "the vault" after a bit of time browsing everything. So much goodies in there, and I am sure it regularly rotates as it is sold. I will have to go back in a month or two and see what else is new. I scored some beers that I have always wanted to try and never thought I would ever get unless I traded, or got it mail ordered. Amazing place, a must visit for the area.

I've always been a fan of this place, the only problem is there are so many great places that are closer to me. I'm not saying this is a far drive for me, maybe I just don't utilize this place like I should. Great location in a fun little town. Creeky wooden floors. Smells like cheese or whatever's baking. Service is top-notch. They definitely know and appreciate craft beer, and are extremely friendly. They will do their best to make the customer happy. They have a very nice selection, it's almost typical. But there's a special backroom w/ some goodies that take this place to another level. The pricing is reasonable, maybe a dollar extra here and there.

Great store, great people. Definitely one of the better stores in Northeast Ohio. If you're in or from the area, this is a must!

Awesome beer store right in my backyard. Well, actually in the city next to me, but hands-down the best place on the East Side of Cleveland. Warehouse Beverage and Whole Foods are nice too, but Chuck's takes the cake for their quality, charm, selection, and awesome service.

As others have noted, you'll need to ask to see the back cooler if you're looking for the good stuff. I remember my first trip and being blown away that they had some things you don't normally find in this state. Mike, the Swami of Suds, is knowledgeable and really just a great guy. He's even reserved stuff for me and special ordered. He rocks!

Brands like Founders, Alesmith, Ithaca, Cantillon, Fantome, Dark Horse, the list goes on and on. If it's available in Ohio (and sometimes even if it's not) they have it.

Chuck's can be a dollar more than some other stores for a $15-ish 750ml, but I love the place, the people, it's creeky floors, and, of course, the back cooler.

Cheers to great beers from one of the best stores I've ever been to!

Chuck's is just a couple miles from my aunt and uncle's house in Novelty, set just off the main square in downtown Chagrin Falls in a building with the look and feel of an old general store

it's absolutely essential to gain access to the storage area behind the display coolers - my first couple visits were underwhelming and didn't inspire any purchase (well, there was the legendary Siletz Spruce a few years ago...Siletz closed? nooo), this visit I merely expressed interest in Midwestern stuff unavailable to me at home and was pointed towards the cooler door

on open display was some adequate but pretty widespread (in Ohio) stuff - a range of Great Lakes, a Dark Horse, Erie, New Holland, Thirsty Dog, Bells, and many other common but quality selections to include a nice range of imports and Belgians, though nothing worth lugging home; things looked much better in the back room - Hoppin' Frog, Buckeye, Jolly Pumpkin, Two Brothers, The Bruery, Brew Kettle, more Dark Horse, AleSmith 750s, Clipper City bombers, Penn St. Nikolaus, actually had to limit myself to in-state breweries to keep from going overboard, keep a sharp eye out as there were more than a few not on display, requiring a peek into a few boxes to weasel out

the service was friendly and helpful, though I didn't have the "above-and-beyond" experience that others did

encountered a few dusty six-packs, and the warm ambient temp may or may not be a concern for those beers not in the cooler, but quality seemed to be generally in order

Stopped at Chuck's after the first annual Winking Lizard Real Ale Fest and happy I did. The store is located in downtown Chagrin Falls, and there is a fair amount of street parking in the surrounding blocks.

The interior has sections devoted to wine, cheese and of course beer. Many of the usual beers found in higher-end stores are either in one of the coolers or on the shelves. Regional brewers like Thirsty Dog, GLBC, Bell's, Dark Horse, Hoppin' Frog and others are represented. In addition there is a solid selection of imports, especially from Belgium. On top of THAT, the proprietor offered to take up "behind the cooler" after asking us if we were "beer hunters". Needless to say there are some real goodies tucked away back there.

Obviously from the above, the service at this store is top notch.

Overall this store is a must stop for anyone in the region.

Well I recently had the pleasure of stopping in at Chucks. After reading the reviews and looking at their site I knew it was only a matter of time before I would make time to stop in. I'll just say I stopped in on a Saturday and spent about $60 and went back up Monday (hour drive mind you) just so I could spend another $100! Well you go in and there is a cooler ahead on the right with some pretty solid beers. Turn around and you will see more beer across the store. There you will see coolers with some shelves to your right. Pretty nice selection going on here. I was finally able to find an 1809 which Ive been looking for for a while now. The "Vault" is where its at. I asked about it and was told where it was. Its the big part of the cooler you were just looking at! You walk behind the shelves and around the corner and there is the cooler door. I was most impressed with what I found inside. I found some Backwoods Bastard(thank god because everyone else has sold out of it but I bought the last 2 4 packs so dont expect to find any!) and some Mikkeller, JW Lees, Creme Brulee (long sold out at other stores) and quite a few other gems. I even found me a bottle (expensive but oh well) of '06 VE! Just save yourself some trouble and stop into Chuck's whenever you get a chance, its totally worth it!

I've been going to Chuck's since before I was able to legally able buy beer, so now that this establishment is on my weekly shopping list, I though it best that I pay them my respects on BA.

An institution that has been in Chagrin almost since it's founding, Chuck's Fine Wines has grown through the years to become one of the best wine and beer stores in the midwest. I have yet to set foot into a "beverage store" with the ambiance of Chuck's. Nestled besides the upper falls of the Chagrin River, Chuck's has a very homey feel when you walk in the door. From the well worn wood floor to the old style slide door refridgerator that rests against the wall and all of the beer and wine paraphernalia which is displayed on the walls. The wine selection, which is divided by country and type, is quite extensive and is displayed in old crates and on new racks throughout the one end of the store. As you brouse through the store you'll find displays of seasonal beers for those that want to buy and bolt or, if you prefer, you can saunter throughout the store and peruse the huge selection of beers available from around the globe. If you display a real passion for finding that elusive brew, you may even persuade one of the knowledgable and friendly employees to show you into their "beer vault" behind the cooler, where you'll find some of the harder to locate brews like scotch cask aged ales from Scotland or a limited editon run from one of the many midwest mircobrewers. Mike (the Swami of Suds), Scott (the Baron of Brew) and Suzie (Chuck's resident IT expert) will be glad to make you aware of any upcoming beer or wine tasting events, or add you to their email listing to be notified of upcoming tastings. While you're at Chuck's, pick up some of the speciality cheeses and crackers to go along with those beers you just got. This is a one stop shop for hop "heads" and will leave you feeling fulfilled when you walk out the door. If you're in the area, it's well worth you making a planned stop by to check out the store. You won't regret it if you do.

Decided to stop by on way to Cleveland...I am so glad that I did.

Chuck's Fine Wines is located in a beautiful, small town of Chagrin Falls. With all the snow it almost reminded me of the small towns in Vermont.

As you walk in, all the beer will be located on the left hand side of the store, except for a few beers that are in the fridge on the right hand side. There was numerous quality beers to choose from, especially Belgian and other imports.

The moment I stepped into the store, I was greeted immediately and offered help. After browsing for a while I was offered help again. Later, Scott helped me out and even took me to the infamous "vault." The service was honestly the best that I can remember of any store I have been to. Thanks Scott for all your help.

Selection was not the largest I have seen, but still plenty big to keep you feeling like a kid in a candy store.

Overall, this place is definitely a must stop. Gorgeous location, great beer, and outstanding service make this a worthwhile visit. The prices are also very reasonable.

I'm from Erie, Pa...but I was in Cleveland, so I decided to take a trip over to Chagrin Falls. Man was I glad that I did!

I was like a kid in a candy store in Chuck's. They had plenty of English beers including...Sam Smith's entire lineup, Young's, Belhaven, Murphy's...and many more.

They had plenty of American craft as well...Bell's, Founders, Flying Dog, Stone, Rogue, Clipper City, Troegs, Victory, Anchor, Sierra Nevada, Penn, Weyerbacher, Boulder, Great Lakes, and even Erie Brewing Co. beers.

As for the prices....this was the most impressive part of the experience for me. In PA we have all kinds of crazy alcohol taxes and what not. In Erie we pay an average of 11 or 12 bucks for a six pack of craft beer. At Chuck's the same sixers were $899 or so.

The only downside is that some of the beers were past their prime. I guess that this is almost unavoidable. But I personally would run specials on beer when it's getting close to it's best buy date.

Morey's Bottom Line: I would go back just to get beer there and I'm about an hour and 45 minutes away. Very nice atmosphere, very nice people, very nice town (starbucks, old fashion popcorn and ice cream shops, bagel shop...etc).

Quality. Very high indeed. All products displayed with care in organized way. Hardwood, uneven floors give it some charm. Many products displayed in wooden boxes or apple crates. Really pretty cool. This place is nearby several other unique shop type places and Einstein Bagles, a great outdoors (hiking, biking) shop and I am sure coffee and ice cream places as well. Chagrin Falls is a very nice place.

Service. This might be the strongest part. Very helpful, even funny staff who taught be several things about beer during my 10 minutes there. They provided good information but then also let me browse freely. Owner, operator is clearly passionate about beer and it shows. He spoke of Canadian beers (not Molson and Labbat's but micros from Canada) and that Speelman's had bought Unibroque recently. Despite my brief visit, service could not be improved upon.

Selection. They had this great big (2 gallon..4 liter?) double bastard bottle for like $80 and many of the more common micros from Ohio, PA, but STRONG selection of imports from Belgium, England, Ireland, Canada, and likely other countries. They had a "make your own 6 pack" area although those singles were not beers that excited me too much. Place is divided between wine, cheese, beer and other supplies. After I made my purchase I saw another out of the way cooler and saw Oak aged Yeti Imperial Stout. I'll have to return for that.

Value. I bought something like 8 beers (5 of them were various Unibroque 250ml) and my bill was $49.49 It was reasonable.

Notes: Really a nice place with even nicer people. Anyone in the area should stop in there.

This is a great beer store. I was in Ohio, with several friends, for a week and knew that we would be in areas where we couldn't find good beer. This was the right place to stock up.

I found out about Chuck's on BeerFly and the recommendations are right. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly staff that went out of the way to help. The building is old and has probably been many different things. The left side if the store has all the beer. The selection is exceptional; I favor IPAs and found many that I can't get in Florida my home state. One of our group is a big Stout guy and he was like a kid in a candy store! When Mike showed us the "vault" it really got things going. He would show a beer we hadn't seen or couldn't get and, of course, we had to have it. We got the complete "tour" and bought much more than possible to drink in the week ahead but what the heck we were on vacation so have at it!

Some of our haul: Stone Brewing IPA, Arrogant Bastard Ale, Ruination IPA and Old Guardian Barleywine. Great Lakes Brewing Blackout Stout, Weyerbacher Black Hole, Ale Smith IPA, New Holland Night Tripper, Moylans IPA, Triple Ale and Stouts, Southern Tier Unearthly IPA, Bells Ales, Pyramid Brewing and many more! When buying "collectors" beer be careful some beers don't age well. We had one or two, bought in the excitement of the moment that should have been left on the shelf. All in all still a great beer store. It is worth walking down the street to see Chagrin Falls and the rest of the area if you have the time.

These guys really made our trip and we will return when in the area. Thanks Mike for having all those great beers available in a cool place!

I did a quick walk through and was impressed with their selection. Good Belgians (many I've never seen before) nice Germans and British as well. They also had a great selection of regional craft beer as well.

Mike then helped me and I proceeded to find many things of interest and it concluded with a tour of the "vault" where I grabbed several interesting brews. Mike was awesome, so much so that I ended up out there a couple of days later to round out "catch". Leipziger Gose, Lion Stout, Bell's Two Hearted, Reinaert Flemish Wild Ale, Thomas Hardy's, Weyerbacher Heresy and many more.

I know where I'm headed on my next visit to Ohio!

This is my favorite beer store yet! The selection is outstanding and the customer service is superior.

I was not in the store but for 1 minute and was cheerfully greeted. When I explained that this was my first time there and that I was interested in beer, I was introduced to the "beer guy", Scott, who showed me around the place. He broke down their inventory by region and style and even took me back to "the vault". There are some real goodies back there.

Scott is very knowledgeable and spent time assisting me with my purchase. My haul consisted of Southern Tier Choklat, Mikkeller Big Worse and Black Hole, Avery Mephistopheles' Stout, and Bell's Special Double Cream Stout.

As soon as I deplete my inventory, i am heading back up there to pick up some other goodies that I will not mention in this review. That is, if they are still there of course :)

I give this place an A+. Thanks!

This place is great. I just recently moved to Ohio from the DC area and I am always looking for a great store to supply my addiction to good beer. I found this place here and based on other reviews, I had to check it out. As you walk in the first thing you notice is that this is a really old building, possibly a house at one point? Great atmosphere, I was greeted immedietly after walking through the door. As soon as i mentioned BA the whole staff got excited. The main room you enter is mostly wine but has some beer. After walking through this room you move to the left into a beer haven. It's a little tight in area's but no real beer fanatic would ever complain about being squeezed in between tight isles of great beer. There are a lot of hard to find beers in supply here. Most of these are in low quantities but they have them. After talking to one associate i was offered a tour of the beer "Vault" as he refered to it. He took me into the cooler and showed me the selection of beer in there. The back wall of the cooler is full of nice 6-pack, 750's and really hard to find singles. I left with a great selection of the following; (2) 2003 Aventinus still in the white wrappers with purple lettering, a 12oz. Mephistopheles stout from Avery, a Stone 07' Vertical Epic, Stone Imperial Russian Stout, Unibrou Chambly Noire, AleSmith Speedway Stout, and a 6-pack of Paulaner Salvator. The best part of the visit is that when I asked if they had Unibrou Quelque Chose they offered to order a case and hold a couple for me. This is a hard to find Cherry beer. My wife loves this as it is not a typical beer and tastes like drinking warm cherry pie. This is so important because most beer stores make you deal with what they have. I would recomend this place to anyone. There was also a couple of people there for the wine and cheese selection. I don't care for either but they supposedly have a great selection of these also. I have to finish the review with talking about the staff and how great they are. This is my new favorite store, period.

Truly Outstanding Selection and Service

My personal beer haul included: several beers from Southern Tier, Fantome, Stone Verticle Epic 06, Double Bastard, an assortment of French and Belgian ales unheard of in Wisconsin, a bottle of 04 les bon voex, some Speedway, a couple of Japanese micros, some South Hampton stuff, and so much more. Be sure to ask Mike about the Vault. You’ll have to figure out the password but it’s not too difficult. I nailed it on my first guess and once I got back there I was floored…old FFF stuff, some vintage stone, loads of Ale Smith, weird Weyerbacher and Jolly Pumpkin brews, etc… Many thanks to BA Scott for the tip about the vault.

Mike and I chatted for a while and he was very helpful. He asked to see my want list and as I showed him he would run back to the vault, a back room, or some hidden shelf in search of what I was looking for. Often he would return with just the bottle I was looking for. Other times he would have something similar to suggest. As I left, he handed me his card and told me to call before my next trip to Cleveland. He said that with enough notice he could put together an order for me including any brews he could get his hands on. He even said he would package it and store it in his cooler for a few months or ship it if I wouldn’t be able to come get it right away.

I really enjoyed the layout of the store and the location made for an easy sell to my girlfriend and inlaws. Chuck’s is located right across the street from the Popcorn Shop and the Chagrin Falls. We spent the afternoon hiking and swimming at nearby Squaw Rock and then went to the Popcorn Shop to buy ice cream and look at the falls. I was able to run across the street and do some beer shopping.

I highly recommend Chuck’s for the service and selection. Prices were generally good. I found a few of the beers to be about 10% higher in price then they would be at a larger liquor store in Cleveland but many others such as the Stone Vertical were an absolute steal. All in all the quality, variety, and bargains more then made up for any high prices.

I will try to go back to Chucks each time I go to Cleveland from now on.

I made it to Chuck's while home for the Christmas holiday. It was well worth the nearly hour drive from where I was staying to check it out. In terms of atmosphere Chuck's is the coolest beer store I can remember being in. Chuck's is in an old building right along the Chagrin River just before the falls. The atmosphere inside was just as good as outside. It has the look and feel of an old liqour store...because it is. Wood floors, low hanging ceilings, alcohol and beer everywhere.

The beer section took up a big chunk of floor space. I couldn't figure out any semblance of organization and the lack of it certainly lended itself to browsing. The selection was very good. A good representation of midwestern beers, which is what I came in for, as well as a nice selection of Belgian and German beers. I was particularly impressed with English offerings.

The icing on the cake for me was when one of the guys working there, (Chuck himself? I didn't catch his name) took me in the cooler to show some other stuff that wasn't on the floor - a bunch of seasonals from Great Lakes, Bells, and Three Floyds. I was pysched because I have been waiting to try Three Floyds for some time.

All in all a great beer store. I'll be heading down whenever I go home to Cleveland.

I can't believe I've worked and lived so close to this place and never knew about it! This place simply rocks! The staff is more than friendly to offer up their vast knoweledge of beer and help you find whatever you might be looking for. The selection is one of the best in the area, and as far as I can tell the rotation is very good as well. Selection wise- anything that you they can get in Ohio they seem to be willing to bring here for their customers. Not to mention they also have some fine glassware, cheese, and wine. Truly a classy place. Cheers to you Chuck's!

Thank you Scott for suggesting this location while I was visiting in Ohio.

I was able to find the Speedway Stout I have been looking for!! (Mike held a few bottles for me. Thank you.) I also got a few bottles of Dreadnaught, Double Bastard, Brooklyn Black Choc. Stout, Expedition Stout, St. Bernardus 12, La Fin Du Monde etc. etc. that I cannot dream of finding in my corner of Tennessee.
There was alot more there that I wanted to try, but space in my car was the limiting factor.

I was very happy with the prices, and the help taking my cases out to the car after my shopping spree. As some others mentioned before, they mentioned that they are willing to ship to me if I decide I want something later that may not have been in stock at the time.

I will be back for sure next year.

Edit: I have now ordered from them twice over the phone and have been more than happy with the results. The beers ship quickly and are very well packaged.

Edit 2: came back 3/22/08 another amazing expreience. I wish I did not live 9 hours away.

Chuck's Fine Wines is located just off Main Street in quaint little Chagrin Falls. The white clapboard building backs onto the Chagrin River, within sight of a portion of the Falls, where dozens of ducks paddle placidly along, unaware of their proximity to great beer. There's plenty of parking beside the store and along the street, most of which was empty since I got there before the opening time of 10:00 AM.

The interior is quaint as well, made even more so by the extremely creaky hardwood floors. Some beer is present on the right hand wall; German imports on shelves and a pretty good selection in an old cooler. The really good stuff is in the center of the store near the cash register and on tables, shelves and a cooler to the left. The *really* good stuff is in The Vault, the walk-in portion of the cooler.

All in all, I'd say the selection is similar to some of the best of Ohio's beer stores. I did see some things here that I hadn't seen anywhere else though. American micros were pretty well represented (more singles would have been nice), but I would have liked to have seen a bigger selection of top shelf Belgians. I guess John's Grocery in Iowa City has spoiled me in that regard. Prices seemed a little on the high side, but not so much that I wouldn't shop here if I lived in the area.

The biggest negative for me was some less than fresh beer that was still sitting on the shelves. I'm talking 'best by' dates of 2002-2003 for pales ales and pilseners. Completely unacceptable. In fact, I put about half a dozen bottles back since I was leery about their age. Faded labels and floating junk is not something that I want to see when I go beer shopping. Overall quality is great, but the score will have to be knocked back a notch to reflect the need to weed out the oldies. [Edit: I'm going to decrease the quality score another half-point since I've had to drainpour two bombers that were extremely old; total cost was more than $10.]

The biggest positive was the service. Mike was a tremendous help and took me into the cooler where the quality beer lives. Needless to say, if one doesn't know about that cache, one doesn't have any idea of what riches await at Chuck's. He even broke a 4-pack for me 'since you're here all the way from Iowa'. He also offered to mail me beer (Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard) that hadn't come in yet. Even without the great selection, this is a place that I'd come back to just to hang out and talk beer.

It was a little out of my way, but I'm glad that I stopped at Chuck's Fine Wines on my most recent trip home. The BAs of Northeastern Ohio are lucky to have a place like this and I'll be sure to stop in again if I'm in the area.

my impression is that beer is a little more expensive around here than other places, but the prices at chuck's are good. the selection on the other hand is great. esoteric belgians, classic english ales, outstanding domestic offerings. good service, too. i will definitely be back!

came home with a Schelenkerla Urbock, Cantillon Iris, Jolly Pumpkin, Moylan's Kiltlifter, Founder's Centennial IPA, Adnam's Broadside, Sammy Smith Winter Welcome and a new Duvel tulip to replace my shattered chalice

they've got some fun stuff they've been holding onto iin back, too, if you're nice

This store is an excellent place for any wine or beer lover. They have more wines than beers available (hence the name Chuck's Fine Wines). But they have more beer than some other stores around the area I have seen. Great Lakes, Bell's Unibroue, Corsendonk, Stone, Dogfish Head, Flying Dog, Sam Adams, Konningshoeven, Victory, and Rogue can all be found here, among tons of lesser known, but just as tasty, brews. Mike, one of the employees certainly knows his stuff when it comes to beer. I was blown away by the selection and knowledge of the employees of beer. Worth a trip for sure if you live in the greater Cleveland area or are passing through.

Chuck's is the home of fine drink. As with the town, Chuck's is a great old 19th century building that is warmly lit, and the creaks in the floor are free. Shelves & stacks of wine (2500+ bottles) and beer (400+) that occupy the 2000sq/ft floor keep the eyes dancing.

Mike, the Swami of Suds, without-a-doubt knows his stuff. He loves to talk beer, down to how to pair it with food. Everything you need, that is available to Ohio, can be got here. What ever they don't have can be ordered and received within days, at no obligation.

The staff know their trade, and they walk your purchase to your car even if it's little more than a sixer.
Plus they have books, glasses, coasters - enough swag to swing a stick at. They also keep a nice selection of cheese and food stuffs.

It's a place not to be missed. In short, it's a place for a guy to go to feel like a kid again.

Plus, they usually have monthly beer tastings @ only $5 a pop.

All Hail Chuck's Fine Wines!

Located in the cozy and scenic little town of Chagrin Falls.

As Chuck's namesake implies wine is the name of their game but to my surprise their beer stock was quite impressive. American brewers such as Rogue,Stone,Victory,Bell's,Founder's, and quite a few California brewers such as AleSmith and Anderson Valley to name a few. Imports from all over the world are also well represented. They also have a separate shelf for single bottle purchases. Chuck's offers plenty of glassware along with free coasters. Beer tastings seem to occur twice a month from many quality brewers. Service is top notch as everyone knows their beers and they are accommodating to your every need.

If in the Greater Cleveland area Chuck's is a must stop for those in need of a breath of fresh air and top notch brews!

Cheers!

Funny, I grew up near Chagrin Falls, but never went to Chuck's until I moved away. I always knew it as a wine and cheese store and it was only on a visit back home that I found out they had a ton of good beer too.

The selection is very good. The stock was a little scattered, there didn't seem to be any system to how the beer was arranged. This actually made it fun to dig around the store, though. I found almost everything I could think of, so it's a great place to start if you're looking for something obscure. The wine selection is great too.

The building is old and right near the falls which gives it a nice atmosphere to dig around for some good brews.

A great find on the east side of Cleveland, in a pretty little town called Chagrin Falls (lots of rich people here, kind of reflects, the style and prices at the local stores). They carried anything I could think of looking for at the time. Lots of glassware, as well as Belgian, and domestic micros as well. Picked up: Two Hearted, Stone 7th Anniversary, Great Lakes Anniversary, Buckeye76(!), Delirium Tremens, and a nice Duvel Tulip in one stop. Great selection and they carry your stuff out to your car for ya. Lots of wine too (for those who care).

Beautiful store in a beautiful town.

They have a great selection of import singles and wide variety of cold six-packs, brews from New Holland in MI stood out to me.

Their bombers and 750ml selection was nicely varied. They had all the Rogues I have seen in Ohio, and some that I had never seen, like their Hefe.

The only cold beer was the six packs and some of the bombers. All the single imports were un-refrigerated

Tons of glassware located next the beer that was intended to hold.

They also have a deli section dedicated to cheeses.

A stand out store in Northeast Ohio.
