Poured from 250mL bottle into a tumbler. Best by 1/9/25.

Appearance: rich golden hue with a clear body and a strong effervescence. Head is a finger of frothy white foam which leaves a nice lace on the glass.

Smell: light, sweet malt aroma with just a hint of corniness. Not particularly multidimensional, but decent and inoffensive.

Taste: much like the aroma, but a little richer. On the sweet side with just a hint of corny flavor, but with surprisingly little adjunct or off flavors. Not bad.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: this beer is a bit sweet for me, but otherwise it's a pretty nice example of a European lager.

Clear grainy straw appearance with a sparse soapy head, low retention, minor lacing. Bread, grain, scallion notes. Medium body, moderate to high carbonation.

Been drinking this on tap and from mini bottles over the past week in Spain and this is basically the go-to basic beer here. Sorta malty, a little sweet, some citrus and a crisp feel that helps you pound it and move on to the next establishment.

Rereviewing 10 years later after lots more beer drinking experience.

Looks pretty great, head has some great smooth foam, perfect pilsner colour with small bubbles. Now it has maize in? Never noticed this before, maybe they changed the recipe.

Initial impression from the aroma is apples! Just like I first thought, the first time that I drank it in Madrid 10 years ago on a business trip. It has an aroma like a cider. Which I actually like ; ) Though hops are a bit faint in the aroma...

Beer is always better when you drink it draft, in the town where it is made. Green Mahou brewed in Madrid, drunk in Madrid, is the best.. Unfortunately this actually tastes worse than the San Miguel Especial that I drank about an hour ago.

Taste is not as good as I remember, perhaps they have changed the recipe or are budgeting more to make more money at the expense of quality. Of perhaps they just export the sh it stuff.

During around a week in Madrid 10 years ago, this was probably the best beer I discovered. I am not really a fan of lager in general, though this has a unique taste that really complements Madrid. However now it doesn't seem so good. Compared with the green Mahou, this one seems to be less flavorful somehow, not sure why as it is stronger!

Feel is a little watery, but at least there is some emerging aftertaste. Taste is really nothing special. The hops are noticeble but the malt is a little tasteless. And the alcohol elements are far too noticeable.

Please go to Madrid and try the green version, unpasteurized, in a bar. It's so much better. I have no idea why a stronger version of Mahou tasted worse than than a weaker version. It makes no sense. But it's true.

500 ml can, straight from the can on a warm spring day. Decent malt flavors with a whiff of hops. No off flavors, but it is a bit sweet/syrupy (from corn, maybe?). Decent beer for the occasion, but I've definitely had better macros. My wife took a few sips but even still it was a couple of ounces too much.

Look - poured into a 12 oz glass. Straw yellow in color, transparent, and a large head that mostly dissipates, leaving behind trace lacing.

Smell - some malts, but otherwise faint and not much.

Taste - sweetness from the malts balanced by moderately high hoppiness. finish is very clean.

Feel - light bodied, high carbonation, and standard in ABV at 5.5%.

Overall - just another Euro lager. nothing amazing, but drinkable as is and good to accompany meals.

Appearance: 12oz brown bottle into a glass. Almost no head, but had the effervescent appearance of good carbonation. Clear pale gold color.

Aroma: Mild. Corn and barley.

Taste: Typical Euro lager. Indiscernible dry grain, corn, some rice. No herbs or grass.

Feel: Crisp and refreshing. The carbonation was strong and persistent.

Overall: Perfectly acceptable neutral lager.

Pairing: It won’t add to or change any complex meals. It is best either alone or with mainstay bar food like hot wings or a burger.
