Pours a surprisingly clear auburn brown, little head, dissipates quickly. Nose is "blah" , nothing really to report here. Taste basically matches the nose, boring and light. This taste a lot like soda pop or something. About the only thing going for it is that at 7.5 percent, you can't even taste the alcohol. If the other reviews for this beer weren't so bad I'd assume it was a bad bottle. Avoid.

11.2 oz. green bottle with a simple gold label with a white circle in the middle. Inside the circle is a dreary crude drawing of the German countryside. The back label has the Government warning and a best before date.

When poured into a simple Pilsner glass, this Dopplebock was a nice dark cola brown with a few amber highlights. The head of foam was about 1/4 of an inch in height and dirty white in color. It was one of those colors where it wasn't white or beige. Good retention that left behind a sting of rings and a spot or two of lace. I honestly like the color of this beer.

The aroma of this Doppelbock took the sweet route instead of taking the roasted road. The aroma was sweet with sweet malts, caramel, molasses, a little raisin, a few herbs, and a subtle whiff of olives at the end. It was an interesting aroma. The taste was similar to the aroma. It liked the sweets more than it did the roasted elements.

The taste started off with sweet malts. It was so sweet that it tasted like cola a little bit. Behind the malts was some dark fruits, caramel, molasses, and a slightly weird herbal hop bite. I like the taste of sweet Doppelbocks, but this was too sweet.

The mouthfeel was medium bodied, with little carbonation, and a sweet aftertaste. It wasn't candy sweet. It was more cola sweet. If I'm ever in the mood for a sweet Doppelbock, I'll pick this one up again. It looks really good, but everything else was...not so good.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Immortals and a doppelbock...a good pairing...? We'll see... Anyway, this stuff pours a clear garnet topped by a finger of glowing off-white foam. The nose comprises mild caramel, light buttery biscuit, a vague sense of miscellaneous greens, and a soft touch of mild cocoa. It's all really vague, muddled, barely distinguishable from background nose radiation (AKA smells). The taste holds notes of maple syrup, light cocoa, very light roasted malts, honey, and a bit of biscuit. The aftertaste, though, resonates with Band-Aid-like notes that blend into strange herbal flavors. The body is a rather lithe medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a generally solid d-bock, not one I would ever put near the top of any list, but one that suffices as a tasty-enough choice, though that aftertaste does ruin things a bit.

Bottle into tulip glass
A – Almost a 3 finger light tan head has moderate retention, beer with no light appears nearly black with a little light it is a clear rich brown, a few strings of lacing 3.5
S – Roasted malt caramel, herbals, milder prune & mineral notes 3.5
T – More grainy than I expected, a strong herbal bitterness imparts an aftertaste that reminds me of a ricola herbal cough drop. Moderate spiciness and a very mild sweetness. The more I drink the more I’m recognizing what I’ll call an alcohol and hop zing. 2.5
M – Light to moderate body, watery on the palate, perhaps undercarbonated 2
O – Not a fan of this beer, I’ve not had a bock like it previously and nor will I again if I can help it 2

Single finger head Without significant lacing on a clear amber body. Aroma is mostly fit and toasted malt. Flavor is similar with dark fruit, toasted bread malts and herbal notes. Medium to full body and moderate carbonation. Overall not on par with the doppelbock genre I am familiar with but not a bad beer.

11.2 ounce bottle - Hop City in Atlanta, Georgia. Best Before: 10/02/12.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a slim, bone white head.

Smell: An unappealing sniff of grainy pils malt soaked in ethanol, hardly yielding little notes cherry cola.

Taste: Store-brand cola and a sweet thin drizzle of simple syrup for the pils malt. A dark fruitiness and decaying grass clippings introduces a sudden and surprising alcoholic harshness, which sort of embodies the taste in the cruelly long finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: No need to make any excuses for this, as it's just a rather poor example of the style. I didn't finish the bottle, I couldn't finish it. I got 99 problems but a Bischoff ain't one.
