Clear black colored beer with very little head formation, looks a lot like a glass of coke.

Smells sweet per the style with a good chocolate aroma. Patent malt and a scent of mint. Slight smoke scent.

Starts out slightly sweet with a smoky after taste. Little bit of chocolate and coffee flavor, this seems to lake substance to it, lot like drinking a coke.

Mouthfeel is soda pop.

Overall there isn't that much to it. Like drinking a beer flavored soda.

Poured into an E&J Cask & Cream glass on 10/2/12

Dark, almost scorched brown. One finger head thins to a soapy layer. Impressive swaths of drippy lace cling to the glass.

Brash dark roast is at the core of the aroma; like burnt coffee. There are mildly sweet dark grains and overtones of a creamy sweetness. Disjointed at first, but comes together quickly.

The taste picks up where the aroma leaves off: dark coffee and chocolate roast are integrated with modest, sweeter notions. The finish is burnt and ashy with earthy hints, too.

The body is on the lighter side, but is oily and smooth to the point that it doesn't seem thin. Carbonation is moderate and well-matched to the body and flavors.

Overall, Steel Toe Stout is pretty solid. While I doubt I'd actively seek it out again, I wouldn't mind giving it another shake.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

A - Not really impressive. Looks like extremely low carbonation. I even show the last half inch in the bottle to make sure it was carbonated. After that there was a 1/4 inch caramel head. Other than that it's normal for what one expects a stout to look like. I found myself sometimes shaking the glass a bit to see if there was still carbonation there ...

S - Oh, nice. The sweetness comes straight out followed by a bit of a cream feel (sounds weird I know). I also get a bit of a chocolate milk vibe from it.

T - Very slight coffee, strong chocolate and a soda like finish. After a few sips it starts to muddle a bit.

M - It's a bit light but that is to be expected.

O - Overall it's a nice milk stout. I wouldn't recommend this for a first time milk stout drinker but I will have it again for sure.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Look - medium brown in color, with about half a finger's worth of foam that dissipates quickly.

Smell - much like any other milk stout, it smells sweet and caramelly, with a roasted quality too.

Taste - initially the roasted quality is there, but then comes the sweeter aspect from the creamy, and then the roasted hops seem to come back with a bit of a bite in the latter part of the finish. Interesting taste.

Mouthfeel - pretty well balanced actually, not too far on the creamy side, but still close to it, as the type would suggest.

Overall - pretty darn decent brew. Interesting to think about, and good-tasting.

I poured a bottle into a mug.

Appearance- Black with a half a fingers worth of tan head. Very light amount of lacing.

Smell- Chocolate with hints of dark roasted malt and coffee.

Taste- Chocolate and sweet malt at the start with notes of bitter coffee at the finish.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied and creamy. Prickly amount of carbonation.

Overall- Good beer. One of the better milk stouts that I've had.
