With a name like Modus Hoperandi, I was expecting much more hop flavor and aroma, but it just wasn't the case. It's different and interesting, but in a mediocre kind of way. It's good/okay, just not what I was expecting. Expectations matter!

Pours a dark burnt orange with a one finger white head that disappates quickly. Aroma is pine, resin, some grapefruit. Taste follows with pine, resin, citrus fruit rind, grapefruit, a little bitterness, and a nice bready malt backbone. Mouthfeel is thin to medium and nicely carbonated. Overall, a decent ipa that I would say leans more toward hoppy ipa, but very clean and drinkable nonetheless.

I would have to say that this is one of the worst beers I have ever had. I am a hop head and this is a disgrace to an IPA. There are not a lot of times where I have had a beer and had to dump it out but this is one got dumped. How is this beer rated a 91?! Very odd flavor.

No date canned, only when it is best by - March 30, 2016. Honey colored. Poured into a mason jar. Smells good, taste is superb, a standard to which you can compare other hops-forward IPAs. It is by the book and exceeds at doing it as the title suggests. Certainly one to add to the growing list of favorites. Very resinous and some pine. Maybe not the best, but definitely an important player in the pack. I like the bitterness with a mouth wetting finish. Cheers

Poured a hazy Amber with a great light beige head which left a ton of lacing. Smell was of earthy hops and pine, line walking through a forest where it had freshly rained. You can totally smell the leafy foliage and pine here. Taste was of caramel malts balancing some resinous pine with citrus character. Some orange and grapefruit but I'm still getting lots of pine and earthiness. Less bitter than I expected and more malt-balanced. After exploring IPAs from the East and West Coast I am seriously enjoying the IPA offerings from Colorado (Great Divide and Ska especially) and Michigan (Bell's and Founders) which seem to have considerable more malt backbones to balance the hop flavors. Great beer, this one.

Poured from a 12 oz can into pint glass. L: 2 finger head fades slow. Golden Amber. S: nice citrus hop. T: mildly piney. Sweet ester overtones. F: good crispness. O: good overall, not too hoppy. Just how I like an apa.

Poured from a can that was less then 2 weeks fresh. Ten days old to be exact. I pop the can and give this one a vigorous pour achieving two fingers of frothy light tan head. Head has solid retention and leaves walls of lace. Body is a very deep mahogany amber tone. Nose is super fresh hoppiness with lots of big flowery and citrus based hops. Some grassy tones play on the nose as well. Enters the mouth a bit shallow at first but the hops quickly become prickly all over the tongue. There is a slight bit of malts on the palate that attempt to balance this beer but the hops really dominate. Bitterness is long and dry on the tongue and leads to a mouthfeel that is just that. This is a solid canned IPA that is nicely drinkable.

This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a ruddy burnt orange to bronzed brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. Lacing was there and somewhat stringy.
The smell started off with a light piney to floral hoppiness running into a level caramel maltiness. More caramel malt than expected, but I'm okay with that.
The taste was more sweet than bitter, but bitter floral and piney hops do come together to bring a decent balance to this beer. Lingering malty aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about a light to medium in body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation feels insecure - jumpy, sometimes I feel it, sometimes I don't, different, weird, something of that nature.
Overall, I don't see the hubbub behind this one. Three cans of this and I'm sorry, but I don't see it as outstanding. Something going on in the carbonation, still, thank you Kayley for sending.

Enjoyed from the can in a pint glass via a friend from work---Thanks Bryan!
This nice IPA pours a lightly murky deep amber color with a fantastic head of off white foam that settles to a THICK rocky layer with supreme lacing. Nose of piney hops, heavy citrus notes of pineapple and grapefruit, and sweet caramel malts. Flavors exceed the nose with fresh piney and citrus laden hops on the front and sides, with a nice pineapple and lemon note to the middle that is awash in sweet caramel malts. Back fades from sweetness into a moderately bitter pine note mixed with floral hop notes on the aftertaste. Bursting with a ton of hops, this is a solid representation of the American Style. Good mouth feel with nice carbonation and a moderately dry finish laden with hops.
Very solid for the style.

Cheers!

A - gorgeous dark copper, about an inch of head poured into a wine glass from a can
S - glass smells of citrus (orange peel, mango, grapefruit) and flowery pine, can smells incredible after the pour with lingering floral notes. Getting it over an arms length away.
T - medium body.. small bitterness with the malt up front. Good balance with hop residual in the back. Not overpowered whatsoever - good malt presence with good balance.
M - bubbly and warm. Thins out a bit near the end.
O - this is solid. Hands down one of the best IPAs I've had...

Nice half inch head-lacing sticks around the rim nicely.

Smell is grapefruit, orange zest and muted malts.

Taste is dry bitter grapefruit rind-slight sweet malts but the hope are winning.

Good mouthfeel-goes down easy.

Not a bad beer by any means. I would have again but wouldn't neccessary weak out. A bit thin and on dementional.

12OZ can; fresh; pours a murky orange-brown color, with a beautiful, frothy, light-yellowish head; decent amount of citrus in aroma; very sparky flavor, with lots of pop, and a lingering bitterness. I really like this beer, as it has tons of flavor, yet, near the end of it, I start to feel the bitterness is perhaps a little too much. Still, this is an IPA I would be happy to drink just about anytime.

Deep orange-Amber color. 1 finger of white fluffy head.

Aroma is of concentrated pine, resin, and hop florelness.

Taste starts with a little citrus and bitter red cherry juice. This is very brief and transitions into a harsh pine slap. Big resinous beer. The finale is bitterness. This bitterness finishes into the aftertaste. This bitterness lingers and coats the palate.

Overall, this is not my type of beer. I love IPA's, but I prefer the more citrusy IPA's. This is both harsh and one noted: pine and bitterness. I would pair this with sweet chile glazed fried coconut crusted shrimp. It gets a 81.5/100.

Appearance: A nice bubble show creates a frothy two inches of foam atop the hazy amber liquid; spots of lacing hang around

Smell: Dank and resinous with pine dominant and slight citrus element

Taste: Piney, up front, with just a hint of grapefruit underneath; the caramel malts buttress the hops, in the middle, as the beer grows ever more bitter and resinous; slightly sweet and sticky, in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: This is one of those beers that I would have rated higher a few years ago but it now feels like an IPA from the past; the hops whack you over the head but lack the fruity subtleties of some of the newer varieties I have grown to love

This was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance had a glossy amber color with a slim finger's worth of white head that dissipated immediately. Lacing is few and far between.
The smell was sweet to earthy to slightly citrusy hops.
The taste copied the smell and had a slight caramel sweet aftertaste. There's a semi-dry finish.
The mouthfeel had a medium bodied feel with a decent carbonation to it.
Overall, its a good AIPA with a nice caramel backbone to it. I'd have it again.

Best by 10/29/15, 12oz can poured into a pint glass

A- pours a clear deep copper color with a small creamy white head that reduces to a thin film floating on top, a bit of lacing left behind

S- piney and earthy hop, mint, sweet caramel malt

T- big blast of piney & grassy hops up front, supported by some juicy citrus notes. Underlying caramel biscuit malt kicks in mid-palate, before finishing with citrus rind & leafy hop

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns slightly creamy into the finish

O- nice and juicy hop finish with high drinkability, very good

Look: Hazy amber in color. Inch and a half of creamy white head has some sticking power. Settles to a nice ring around the edge of the glass. Thick heavy lacing.

Smell: Earthy and Forest-y. Lots of pine.

Taste: Extremely well balanced. Big dank citrusy hops is paired brilliantly with a toasted, almost chocolatey malt.

Feel: Medium body with a nice semi dry finish. Kinda oily.

Overall: Not out of this world complex but hits all the tent posts for a good American IPA and has some nice, interesting, unexpected qualities. I love constantly trying bad beer after bad beer because eventually something like this comes around and knocks your pants off when you weren't necessarily expecting it.

Try this beer already

355ml can bought from Lighthouse Wines, Jordanstown

Poured a nice golden coppery orange colour. Creamy head with orange tinges poured quite thick then faded quickly to light ring around the edge. Light carbonation... light lacing lines...

Aroma - Spicy juicy fruits (apricots, limes, oranges), piney / grassy hops, nice caramel and biscuity malt sweetness, perfumed, some light almond nuttiness, toasted bread...

Taste - Quite sharp spicy, piney / floral hop bitterness, toasty / biscuity maltiness, nice caramel malty sweetness, good fruitiness (oranges and grapefruit), light medicinal hints, perfumey, sea salt traces, faint metallic hints...

M&D - Quite smooth with just a little sharpness coming through... Light / medium bodied... supremely quaffable..

Overall - A superbly quaffable IPA - this could easily become my goto IPA... highly recommended...

A rock solid IPA for the money, MH isn't a heavy hitter like others in the style, but that's part of its appeal.

Lovely copper/amber color with a generous head, the nose is quiet, consisting mainly of piney hops. The taste offers much more, a good backbone of malt and citrus, with a firm yet lingering hop finish. Has a slightly resinous body, but not enough to make it a one and done type of beer. Very smooth.

Overall, Ska's most consistent and enjoyable offering.
