A - The beer pours with ones finger of white foam on top of a clear, dark copper body. The head settles quickly and leaves decent lace on the glass.

S - Pine, onion, and sweaty hops with some toffee in the background.

T - Sweet, caramel malt up front with pine hops. Some onion and sweat in the middle and a finish of toffe, grapefruit, and moderate bitterness.

M - medium thick body, moderate carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - Hoppy, well balanced and drinkable. The hop aroma is pungent and while things aren't overly complex, it is a nice example of a malty IPA.

No head really on a clear light amber body. Excellent aroma with nice degree of bitterness including earthy, citrus hops and caramel notes. Flavor follows nicely with the citrus hops providing some tartness up front moving to caramel and toffee then finishing with earthy hop bitterness. medium body and moderate carbonation. This is a nice bitter hopped IPA. Fairly complex and doesnt overwhelm.

Poured from a can into a beer snifter glass. A beautiful orange copper color with a creamy off-white head.
Aroma is of wonderful hops with pine, grapefruit, orange zest, tropical fruits, and caramel sweetness.
Taste is just as the smell... huge bitter hops with pine grapefruit and tropical flavors... a light sweet caramel taste from the malt is present as well... very well balanced in my opinion.
I was happy to have discovered this... it is one of my favorite IPA's now. Definitely one i will get often.

On-tap at the Paramount Cafe in Denver, on to the beer:

Looks copper orange in color with a semi-creamy texture of head on top. The nose is very aggresive with the hops, with a good combination of piney grapefruit and crystal malt, and its hoppy nature continues into the taste. Citrusy flavors of orange, grapefruit, and lemon mix well together. There's is a thin layer of caramel from the malt which provides just a little sweetness. In a city filled with a number of good hop options, Modus Hoperandi can hold its own.

Oh my. What the hell is this? I ordered this beer after seeing a can in the cooler that I didn't recognize. What good fortune!

The hop oils on this are so thick that if I immediately wonder if this is wet hopped. Thick resin tones. It's so thick and that I almost want to say that it's too much. But, too much? Who knows about all of that. I like this one though. One of the more unique and interesting beers I have had in a long time.

12 oz. can poured into an Allagash chalice.

Appearance - Copper with an off-white head. Nice head with good retention and nice rings of lace down the glass. A little dark.

Smell - Musty pine hops with a hint of grapefruit citrus. Toasty malts. No sweetness. Kind of a weak hop aroma.

Taste - Sweet caramel malt is significantly stronger than the hops. The pine and citrus play second fiddle. The bitterness is intense and lingering.

Mouthfeel - The bitterness at least covers some of that malt. It's not sweet, but there's nowhere near enough malt to back it up. It's pretty drinkable though, especially with food.

Overall - Nothing special. Nothing bad, either. More hops, please.

A 355ml can with a BB of Dec 2012. Picked up recently from Trembling Madness in York. I like the label imagery - but what inspired it? Lip up fatty...

Poured into a Delirium chalice. A rich marmalade-orange hue with faint haze and good carbonation. Produces a decent head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a thin surface layer. Aroma of intensely juicy hop notes: grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, pine and faint tropical fruit hints. This is underpinned by subtle caramel malt and dry yeast. Slightly sweet. A warming and rather solventy note of alcohol in the background.

Tastes of overwhelming aromatic hops and caramel malt with a stinging bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, pine, caramel, earthy yeast and a hint of brown sugar. Faintly sweet. A seriously dry bitterness upon swallowing; spicy and astringent. Mouthfeel is smooth, spicy and tingly, with good body. Could be just a smidge thicker (but I'm splitting hairs). Dries the palate, and leaves a lingering aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops and malt.

Superb - another quality American IPA. An avalanche of hops assault the senses, with the malt taking a back seat but providing good balance. My only minor complaint is that the aroma had a slightly estery/solventy quality - albeit very subtle. All said, a tasty and very drinkable IPA. Well worth sampling if you have the chance.

Got this in Tucson, excited to finally check out the buzz.

Pours a nice golden orange/brown with decent head and minimal lacing.

Aroma is dense and tropical, herbal, a little heat, honey, lemon citrus.

Taste is orange, pineapple, lemon lime, some grassy herbal hops, followed by some catty notes, piney resin and a mildly sweet finish almost like a hoppy red ale. Heat becomes nice and slightly warming as it comes to room temp.

Mouth is medium and firm, somewhat dextrous, sits on the palate long enough but doesn't get cloying. Finish is clean and on the drier side.

Another great beer for a can, juicy hops and pretty drinkable put packs a decent punch. A shame I can't get more at home.

This is my favorite beer. So I'm biased...but also haven't had every beer. I used to not like IPAs and this one slapped me in the face and said: "Listen, you like scotch, Cabernet Sauvignon and argumentative women." I immediately knew that the intensity of the palette is what I require in beer. Looking for other great IPAs...especially in six packs....I would say Marshall's Atlas IPA does the trick...ALMOST.
