This seems fizzy enough at first pour but it does flatten out and end up as a spicy soup that is not so appetizing. The aroma is intriguing, kind of a Mexican cocoa with dark red chile powder. It's just dark and murky in appearance.

Some sweetness, roasted malt with a cocoa hint, and sharp red pepper tang. There is a modest chile heat after a few sips but it's not really hot. Very aromatic.

This is my least favorite of the usually delicious Ska stouts. Actually it could work with such interesting flavors. From the 12 oz can purchased at Bine & Vine in San Diego.

idunno... smells thin. looks.... just dark.... smell is thin, like a cheap-bar kind of smell.... taste is the same- cheap-bar kind of taste, with some chocolate and chile saving its ass..... not enough chile for me though.... I bought a six pack hoping this stuff is gonna be decent, but having my doubts.... another drink.... meh, i'm giving this stuff away.....

Best by 3/1/15.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, cinnamon, and dried chile pepper aromas. Taste is much the same with dark roasted malt, cocoa nib, cinnamon, and chile pepper flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness and chile heat on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with lots of earthy cocoa, cinnamon, and chile qualities all around.

Serving type: can.

Smells like molé
Tastes like molé

I love molé

But just looks damn ugly for a beer.. The head disappears right away

And the carbonation (good) is saving this beer from being terrible

Poured into a Dogfish Spiegelau glass. Bottom of can says Best By 08 FEB 15.

A- Pours a mostly opaque black color with a 1/4 inch light brown head that retains a bit before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of sheer surface foam. Hardly any lacing to speak of.

S- Cinnamon, nutmeg and a moderate chilie presence. Other notes include chocolate, vanilla and brown sugar. Slight alcohol fume.

T- Nice flavor of cinnamon and nutmeg in the front, chocolate and coffee in the middle and a hint of chilies in the aftertaste. Pretty sweet, which I like.

M- Semi-creamy with medium-low carbonation and a full body.

O- This is quite nice. It's like a more easygoing Xocoveza. Thumbs up.

12 ounce can into a glass. Best by 8 Feb 2015.

Dark color, very little head, thinnish mouthfeel.

Aroma and taste are what matters, and that's where I like this beer quite a bit. It is a mild and balanced blend of typical roasted malts (typical for a stout), somewhat muted in this beer, together with the "mole" flavors of red chile peppers, cocoa, and cinnamon.

Now I love chiles, and I love them strong, so to me, this beer is pretty mild. There isn't much heat from the peppers, just a nice tang and flavor. The cocoa is clearly present, but you wouldn't call this a chocolate stout or a milk stout. I think the flavors go well together, but then, I do love chocolate moles!

If you are also a mole lover, you should give this stout a try. If you're wary of red chile flavors, give it a pass.
