I love Ska, but I think this one is rated way too high overall. I got more toothpaste-like flavor than stout.

Appearance: Pours black, just black. Not even a hint of ruby highlights, lowlights, or any light, for that matter. A luxurious head of deep tan bubbles, and spectacular lacing.

Aroma: A different kind of stout for sure! There’s the requisite roasty chocolate, sure, but the mint is subtle and appealing.

Taste: Sweet, smooth, and unique. The mint (and vanilla) blends seamlessly with the dark roasted stout and it’s prominent chocolate overtones. This one practically defines “dessert beer”, and it’s a damned tasty treat. Kudos to Ska for branching out and experimenting, as this is one yummy and unique brew.

Certainly one of the more intriguing offerings I picked up from Ska in Durango, CO over the summer.

A- Can pours into a snifter with a pitch black body and a fairly dark tan head building up to around a finger with a foamy texture but lackluster retention. A medium ring leaves spotty lace.

S- Certainly notice some herbal mint leaves from both the peppermint and the spearmint which combines with cocoa and the dark roasted malts to remind me of a mint chocolate bar immediately, well the non-artificial ones. Like a Thin Mint in aroma form.

T- Changes somewhat here as vanilla becomes slightly apparent and there is a fruity twang to it all. Still a nice base of dark roasted grain with chocolate notes complimented by the herbal, authentic mint flavors.

MF- Silky and slightly creamy light-medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. Finishes with a minor roast bitterness.

Authentic feeling mint flavors atop a nice cocoa profile and slight vanilla. There is some fruity twang that seems to intensify with time that throws it off a bit.

Black beer with a thick creamy head that dissipates. Smells of chocolate and light mint notes. Taste is milk chocolate, vanilla, andis mints, cream. Silky cream body.
